Yes, we all want this wonderful show to not go down hill, but let's be a little more positive, hmm? Look at what this show has (hopefully) brought to our lives. Look at how connected to the development and fantasy world and creative community with Friendship is Magic. I don't want to hear any more BS about "leaving the fandom". How can you leave the fandom? How can you no longer enjoy the older episodes of a show that you love just because the new episodes aren't as good in your opinion? I feel like some people need to get off of their high-ponies and realize that there is so much more than a show here. Look at how this has changed our (at least it has for me) lives, how it has actually made us more positive people overall. So that's sort of my extremely confused rant. Have at it how you will.
The way you worded that was kind of like a "agree with me or GTFO." Anyways, the only part of the fandom that seems to bum me out is this forum. I've considered leaving the past couple of weeks because everytime I come here it's either people are talking about unrelated stuff that I have no clue about or bashing the show/fandom. It gets pretty depressing and I just leave and go to facebook or the trading sites and hang out there instead. Spoiler: Worst part is... Staff doesn't even care, or at least it seems that way. I've heard 4 staff members say they don't even like/watch the show. :/
It is possible to lose interest in something. A good portion of people here have been into the fandom since the very beginning. That INCLUDES dealing with the fandom, which has not always had great highlights. Shall we even SPEAK about how the fandom freaked out over Derpy's voice? THEN when it was changed, they complained AGAIN saying they finally got used to it and suddenly like it now? The show may have been good for people at the time, but people are allowed to change their views. Personally, I still watch new episodes every saturday with my boyfriend when the new seasons are coming out, but I'm not where near the fan I used to be. I still enjoy it, but I don't re-watch it like I used to. Once has become quite enough for me. I had seen Season 1 three times. Season 2 twice and that's only because I watch it with my Mom to catch her up on the episode. It's not a high horse at all, people are entitled to their feelings, their wants and their likes. Maybe they aren't a fan for different reasons than just not liking the new episodes. There can be more reasons that they aren't telling you because they feel it is their business and their business only. And quite frankly, the show didn't change my life, it was a good catalyst but it wasn't the show or it's meanings... it was the people I met here on the forums, people that may not be here any more but I speak with on a regular basis outside of ponies. We rarely even TALK about ponies anymore just because we've done that and talking about ponies non stop for 2 years... <.< would be rather impressive... and strange. But a good strange. I think o_o
Last I checked, being a brony or watchin the show wasn't a criteria for being staff. Every single one of the staff members that are here at present care about you and the site. Otherwise they wouldn't be here and wouldn't be on these forums. Threads like these are the ones that make this place a bummer to other people. Stop wallowing in past times and try to make the future better. You won't do much good saying 'Boo Hoo this place isn't good any more.' If you want it to get better, work to help fix it. We can't do everything by ourselves.
Harleyluja! Technically being a brony isn't necessary for joining the staff. Yeah, I don't really watch the show anymore, and i rarely keep up with anything new related to it. That doesn't mean i have to hate it all of a sudden.
To be perfectly honest, I find it slightly annoying that some members of the staff have no interest in Friendship is Magic. However, as long as they aren't actually INSULTING the show or the fandom, I fail to see any real problems.
Never said it was, but it is unusual. I think you have the wrong idea of where I'm coming from. As for fixing problems well, I can't change peoples opinions so that's a bit out of reach seeing as the problem is mainly WITH some of the members. And staff caring about the members of the site? Hmm...no comment.
People leave for their own reasons. There's no reason to really rant on it. People lose interest in things, we're all gonna meet the same conclusion eventually (shocker). Leaving the fandom doesn't mean you can't enjoy the older (or newer) episodes, nor does not enjoying the show anymore mean you need to be ousted from the fandom altogether. I don't really need to comment anymore on this, probably didn't even need to -- this should just be common sense.
Personally, I think the fandom is still standing strong and it's so much fun to get into. Such a shame though about this place.
I don't think it could have been more obvious. For the most part, the thing that sets them apart is the people. The members here have grown from friendly, pleasurable bronies into mean, overly-critical, and all around not nice people. I'm also getting sick of people complaining and assuming it means "oh I miss the good ol days" That's not the point at all. The point is that in recent days, I feel very uncomfortable posting just about anything. I never know who's going to bash everything I like, try to start a fight, or if I'm going to get in trouble again for breaking some random rule. It's not even worth the effort anymore. You had the right idea when you mentioned passion, but mine has only faded from here, not the fandom. Why I remain here, well, the best way I can explain it is "there's your house, and then there's your home."
^. I agree with Emperor here. If you have a problem with something, instead of complaining do what you can to fix it. As you may see, I joined this forum in January a converted brony. The show made me happy and took me away from the fresh hell of a life i was living with debilitating anxiety night after night after night. I finally found my safe haven that wasn't video games. This show still provides that haven for me and i am still just as in love with it. No matter how it changes or how the fandom changes i will be here till the end. I am an avid brony and i am on the subreddit, fan tumblrs etc. i love the show with a passion and i disagree with you saying the fandom has become a derailed off-topic jubilation of depressive peeps. Everyone here is extremely kind and have active discussions about the show. This forum has a LOT to be proud of and has QUALITY members and a strong community. It is extremely triumphant and we get new members practically everyday! You will only see what you look for, and what you're looking for is the bad.
Ugh, people are so blind and hypocritical. It's not even worth typing a whole paragraph for this one.
I prefer "The bitterest truth is better than the sweetest lie." At least it's not bs. Some people really just can't handle truth I guess. inb4 godmod closes thread.
