So I have decided to try my hoof at art and these pictures where my 4'th and 5'th attempt at drawing a picture in 4+ years. Would love to have a critic for them to help me improve. If you have a pony you want me to draw then just request and I shall try and deliver since my goal is to draw as much as possible to try and improve. Also my DA that I hope I can populate with some more pics! http://epicbrohoof.deviantart.com/
Well liked how this picture turned out for my first time shading and thought I would share it. Spoiler: images Woops. Ment to just edit this into first post.
I like them, especially your choice of subject with Pinkamena. Starting simple with line art (outlines and such) is a good choice, shading and depth require a bit more skill. Although your first experiment with shading went very well, I'd say. You also managed to express the proper emotion using correct facial expression, particularly in the shaded one. That's another more advanced skill which you handled very well. I'm guessing you probably drew these freeform right? By just drawing the outline? If I may make a suggestion, try hashing out the character first. It helps to acheive the proper proportions and will give your drawing lines a more "flowing" look. Basically you hash out a figure by starting with a stick figure in the pose the figure will take. Then add a circle for a head, ovals for arms and legs and the body. All this is done in very light strokes, and there's no need for erasing. It just gives you a rough idea of where the body parts will be. Make sure everything is roughly where you want it to be, then start drawing the outline (head, body, legs, arms). After that's done and you're happy with it erase your rough hashing marks and begin adding details (hair, eyes, mouth, nose, etc.). Most professional artists use this technique, it makes it far easier to draw when you have a rough sketch that lays out where everything should be before you start drawing. Simply drawing the outline freeform makes it too hard to keep track of proportions. Other than that, my advice would be practice. Because it makes perfect. :derpe: Anyway, you're off to a wonderful start, keep it up and happy drawing!
Wow ty for the criticism. Though I was mostly doing free hand due to time restraint ( Generally only have 15 - 45 minutes to work with ) I am sure going to try your suggestions. I have always found proportion to be the hardest part of drawing as can be seen by pinkies front left leg and really need to improve on that. Hoping to do at least 1 pony a day since as you said, practise makes perfect
Sure! Just give me a couple hours and I will see what I can do. Also thought I would put up a quick image of HARLEYs OC I did before bed well I am here. Spoiler: images Edit: Parents got home early and had to help them. Should get your drawing done tonight
