Im looking for a really grimdark fic. the only grim ones ive read so far are Cupcakes and Cheerilees garden. Any suggestions? *Edit* forgot to say that i also read S.A.M (don't know how i forgot that)
Thanks for telling me about Cheerilee's Garden. Haven't heard of it before, will definitely read it. I'm currently looking for good grimdark stories. I was really against these kinds of fiction, especially Cupcakes, but I decided to actually read it before I judged so harshly and it was actually not bad. There's a certain quality of these stories that's somewhat of a badge of growth in reading them. It helped me actually deal with repulsive images and ideas better and that's something unique that a simple story provided me.
I remember one Fluttershy one...I think it was 'Pattycake' or something similar, I'll have to check more into that. Rainbow Factory is a high quality one, but isn't near as dark.
Slendermane and Rainbow Factory are more along "horror" than Grimdark. Grimdark is more like an atmospheric thing than a standalone genre. When I joined the fandom, Rainbow Factory hadn't been written and Slendermane was the big horror fic at the time. Fallout: Equestria is the epitome of Grimdark from what I hear, though.
Wow. After having completely read Cheerilee's Garden, which took way too much time, I can quite rightly say I will never read another Grimdark fiction every again. That was just wrong. I don't really know why it's worse IMO then Cupcakes and SAM combined, but it's just, terrible. I'm not gonna let it ruin my day but whereas I could get something out of the other stories this one is just pure torture. I don't how to "enjoy" that.
And this is why i never read fanfics.98% are 1:Crappy lesbian shipping(Too generic, dont like gay shipping) 2orn(Shudders) 3:Grimdark crap.(Cupcakes never read it,seen the videos always make me really angry.Because as you can see in my sig Rainbow Dash is my favorite. and i just want to do to Pinkie what she did to RD times ten.... (I can be sadistic at times)) 4oorly written and all of the above.(Spiderses...*Facehoof*I've only seen the parody and the creator of the parody said"My parody is better written and more comprehensible than the original fic")
I mean, it's funny to say this but in all regards Cheerilee's Garden is actually well written it's just well written torture. I mean, kind of hard to get into something so gruesome when I'm one of those people who loves the lightheartedness of MLP but reading them isn't all terrible. I mean, I learned something from them. Coping with dark images and it actually helped me get over some fears of pain in a weird psychological way but for me, it's purely a quick jaunt that one moves away from. Staying in that dark place doesn't seem too heartening, at least to me. And also, yes, all the "love" fictions aren't my cup of tea either. Most are pretty poor in terms of writing dialogue as well from what I've briefly seen, although they know plenty of anatomy. Still gonna say I love the show over everything at the end of the day.
Oh yeah, if you want grimdark, Cheerilee's garden is the way to go. I just finished it, that was such a great fic.
*cough* cupcakes *cough* Why not? Oh, right... since he already read it, lets move on. Just starting rainbow factory and so far, its seemingly good.
Fallout Equestria. That fanfic might just be the best fanfic made in my honest opinoin. Plus, unlike cupcakes, this fic actually has a story to it.
You basically list all but about two genres that comprise *any* fiction story. Since ALL of the main characters are female, you pretty much have to get over the idea of gay romance or you can't enjoy a good romance fic. There isn't actually as much Grimdark as you think. It's a label that is easily tossed around and stands as a marker for fics that encompass darker themes or compel a distressing atmosphere. That's why it's most often associated with war. People confuse and incorrectly associate it with horror and gore. All three have different aims. Spiderses is supposed to be a trollfic. I'm not going to force myself to read its broken English, though. As for clop..., well, it's all labeled on FiMFiction.net. There are some great stories, but not many people like them for an array of reasons. I agree that many are strictly for the mature aspect and offer nothing deeper. Truly a shame. ------------------ When I look for a story to read, I usually look for something specific. In my case, I love romance. Usually I'll look for a specific pairing or two. TwiLestia is my favorite, followed by Twixie, Moonlight, and TwiLuna, for example. As a result, my favorite stories are Spark, Of Mares & Magic, The Ballad of Twilight Sparkle, and Common Sky. I can recommend some of the more popular fics, but I can't really gauge anyone's preference. My tastes are in romance and more people prefer that over grimdark. When it comes to EqD, for example, they don't like grimdark as much and stories tagged as such tend to face greater judgement. That is likely another reason there is not nearly as many major grimdark fictions. Fallout: Equestria set the bar extremely high.
