Is she? Luna is willing to go above and and beyond for her subjects, even going so far as to help Sweetie Belle improve Rarity's headdress design. Celestia, on the other hand, seems to follow a strict policy of "make Twilight do it." The one time that she actually fought her own battle, she lost. Furthermore, a good leader understands the strengths of their followers. Twilight Sparkle has repeatedly shown that her true strength lies with her friends. However, Celestia has not once, but twice, ordered Twilight to work alone in situations where she truly needed her friends. Celestia, through her inability to understand a basic fact about her most loyal student, endangered first the Crystal Empire, and then all of Equestria. Luna, through her willingness to understand and empathize with even the smallest of her subjects, displays the qualities of a kind and just leader.
you make a good point, but one the other hand atleast celestia was there when her kingdom was attacked and she was powerfull enough to raise both the sun and the moon. besides, do you really think that luna visist every childs dreams to help them?
You think that Luna wasn't around when the Changelings invaded. In truth, she was out with a squad of her Bat Ponies kicking Changeling ass. (That's my headcanon, at least. Prove me wrong.) Of course Luna doesn't visit the dreams of every filly and colt. She obviously only helps the ones that are struggling with something and truly need her help. Another quality of good leader is understanding where you are needed most.
Raw power alone doesn't make a great leader. You know, back at the beginning of the series, I actually thought that Celestia was the great princess the series made her out to be. After all, she somehow managed to keep Equestria safe for a thousand years even without the aid of her sister. But the more the series progressed, the more we actually saw Celestia in action, the more I'm convinced that the time before Luna's rehabilitation must have simply been the most boring, uneventful millennium in the history of Equestria, offering not the slightest chance for Celestia to screw things up. But maybe I'm wrong and Celestia really was a good leader back in the day. But even so, it's clear that one thousand years of ruling Equestria day and night must have taken their toll on the poor thing. Now, with having three other alicorn princesses ready to help her out, she should really take the vacation she so desperately - so obviously - needs. Because a thousand years... that's a long time without sleep.
