I thought it would be a interesting discussion for ponies to talk about how many people they have brought into the herd and how they did it. As a very unpersuasive Brony myself I could really use your advice and regardless find stories of how people convert fascinating.
well, I have converted... um ... A LOT of people into bronies. most of them from collage via collage's forum (FER2.net (too bad I can't post topic where I converted people because: a) it's on croatian, b) forum is closed for people outside collage)) also ammong people I've converted to bronies were my sister and my dad (although they just like the show but aren't hard core bronies) .
It was kind of a knock on effect for a few of my friends :/ First one started watching it (Goldhugz) then passed it on to the rest of us one by one xD I think I was the 4th one to gain Pony Powah <.<
Well, as with most things, I preffer making other people do the work for me. So only 2 peopel converted. The first is a fellow fencer like myself who I just told to watch the show claiming it was the manlies cartoon he would ever see. Nuff said. Then a few months later came my second convert. I had nothing to do in CS class so I spent my time on ponibooru. A certain team-mate for a project was watching. He was like "lolwtfponies" The next day I spent call class on ponibooru too. This time he was convinced that ponies were awesome. Then he started watching the episodes in class. The entire class watched too. Not too many bronies though... And then my minio- FELLOW BRONIES started converting everyone they knew and all was well with the world.
i watched it, i made my mate watch the polka, he watched it, he found the 'weird' side....he brought his GF ¬ ¬
I converted someone over Omegle, which was interesting. I must upload the conversation some time, I have it saved somewhere. There's a user on this site than I kind of got started as a brony, but he seemed pretty interested to begin with. The main thing is not to try and shove ponies in their face. PONIES RULE, THERE'S DRAGONS AND SINGING, IT'S SO GOD DAMN MANLY!!! It can be funny within the community, but to outsiders, it just makes bronies seem weird, aggressive, and not a friendly community at all. Firstly, not everyone will like the show. If people can accept bronyism, we can accept non-bronyism. If someone gives you the 'EW PONEEZ R GAY, U *squee!*' treatment, then just accept that they are sexually insecure and narrow minded, and move on. Should you find someone who isn't like that, try and raise the topic through conversation. Ask if they like any TV shows, and bring up that there is a decent Flash based cartoon on the Hub. It's very popular with teenagers and adults, and has a great community of fans. Oh, would you look at that! It just so happens to be based on the My Little Pony franchise. Send them a link to the first episode, or perhaps, some funny PMVs or other media. Let them accept their inner brony. The herd doesn't find you. You find the herd. Can't be bothered doing all that? Invent a mind control device. I have blueprints if you need them.
I just say, "You will watch the show, and you will love it!" and if they don't, oh well. And if they do, then I get a new brony friend.
Well I started posting pony related stuff on my rs clan fourm. Back then I was the only open brony on it, we may have had colseted bronies which may effect the count. Next up one of my clan mates watches it and likes it, next I know hes a massive twilight fan. Then another member has pinkie pie in his sig, another member starts hating me cus hes now addicted to it. Oh and finally another member starts posting pony pics. So maybe 4?
on collage how it all started: (long story short): on collage forum we have tradition of having test spam forum during test season. so on last one (late June and early July) we had one traditionally. it's FFA spam. so I started with "mods are asleep" meme. then I posted more ponies, every day and so on, at first people have ignored me, and after a while they started to notice my posts and were like WTF is that?. anything they said I counter them with ponies, and eventually, I got someone on my side (one member named S3th on forum). when I didn't post ponies he did, when he didn't I did. after few days I already had more than 200 posts of ponies and he had about 100. (that's all during tests). so people started to look what all these ponies are about anyway. so they started to watch for timeselfs and joined us, and well, as topic got on and on there was more and more bronies. since we all go to same collage, there was meeting in park behind collage on last day of test season, and when I showed up, no one that was there knew who I was online. I came in little group where one old friend of my (who I didn't know till that day that he goes on my collage) was and met couple new people. eventually he asked me asked me what was my nick on forum, and when I said Yeti, he was like: "WHY!!! WHY!!! WHY did you infect me with ponies??" then he introduced me to couple of his friends who I also infected with ponies, and there quite lot of them. also one Filly came with pinkie pie cupcakes and shared it with bronies only (+ one other friend of her who was anti pony). also I met people who were anti pony online and they didn't make any problem. even one guy who seemed to dislike ponies himself a lot said that I won't convert him to brony ever, I only said: "ok man suit yourself", and we're ok friends now. it's quite interesting how reaction of people are very different here and in usa. funny fact: from all hardcore bonies on my collage, I never met S3th irl, one that was first to stand by me.
Honestly, I have never converted anyone before. I feel that If I did try to, I would be practically forcing them to like it. I don't want to force anyone to like something they potentially could not like.
I haven't, really. IRL, I come from a school full of obnoxious, closed-minded people, except for a few friends, most of which I haven't talked to, and the one I talk to most was a fan before I even had the chance to tell her about it. My other friends will be converted soon enough. >_> And as for over the internet, the place where I spent most of my time, I spent more time trying to convince people not to hate people who watch it rather than try and get them to watch it. Of course, I'm not the kind of person to try and shove something in everyone's face on purpose. Most of the people on that forum were people trying to bring others down through trivial means, though, and that was just another pathetic attempt in most cases. I'm happy that I managed to convince one person who I actually like from this forum not to hate me. Turns out that he was rather just afraid of being forced into the herd, and he resented bronies because the MLP fandom isn't shunned upon and mocked, like he was for his interests, which he now tries to hide and purge. Poor guy. :c I convinced him that I wouldn't push my interests on to him, and am actively encouraging him to show his emotions and interests, because they make up who he is. It's a work in progress. :33 /slightlyoff-topicrant
I really wouldn't want to convert some one - I watch it, talk it, etc., and if some one asks WTF am I talking about, I'll tell them to just watch and see. I'm sure most would say, "Uh, no thanks." But, that's partly because I hang out with an older group of people than most of you do. I do tease my wife, saying that the real reason she refuses to watch it, is because if she did, she'd be as hooked as me!
I haven't successfully converted anyone, but I was converted by a fellow brony and then I discovered that a few of my friends were closer bronies.
I've converted 2 people who both converted 1 person =) Also I read the title as "making brownies"... man I'm hungry.
So far I've converted two people, and am working on more. I go by the whole "Don't judge a book by its cover. Just give the show a try and see what you think" argument with people. Then there are the pony related videos that I use to pique interest.
So my wife and I were sitting at home tonight, watching "Silent Hill," when she suddenly said, "You said I'm like Rarity, right?" I was a bit surprised. I hadn't even known she knew the pony's name. Yes, I mentioned it to her once or twice, but she expressed no interest in the show. In any case, I said, "Yes, that's the one. The fashion designer, like you." She nodded, and then said, "When the movie's over, let's watch one of the episodes with Rarity." I looked at her, stunned. "You mean - you want to watch ponies?" She just smiled, and said, "Sure, why not. One won't hurt." So after the movie, I got "A Dog and Pony Show," playing for her. She loved it. She said, "One more." I put on "Green isn't Your Color." She loved that one. Asked for one more. So I put on "Suited for Success," which I was a bit more nervous about, as she's not fond of singing, but she still loved it. Mares and Gentlecolts, I have created a Brony. Or, as she prefers, a Pegasis.
Congratulations Dwynter. I'm happy for you. I haven't had any such luck yet, but I have some sneaky plans in motion. If all goes well my entire class at school could become bronies.
