So as most of you know, I'm working on my EP project at the moment, but I seem to just constantly be running into roadblock after roadblock after roadblock, be it my recording equipment, real life, general laziness, or lack of motivation. I've had deadlines set for all releases of my project, and each of them have been on time, one of them even being done much earlier than I thought I would, but I'm wearing myself out. I don't think I can meet my estimated date (March 21st) to release the next part, and overall my inspiration for the project is dwindling. (But still there nonetheless.) I don't know if I should take a break or what, but it's seriously beginning to wear me out. I know it's my project and I should just choose whether or not to continue with it or take breaks or whatever, but I just hate the concept of making people wait for something that they could enjoy. I suppose what I'm trying to say is that I'm getting really tired, and worn out, and it's affecting my experience, for better or for worse. I don't want to lose motivation, but I'm one of the guys that, when they drop something to 'take a break', just drop everything and never pick it back up, or at least for a long time. I don't want to do that here, but I'm afraid I'm going to. Any advice on how to keep this less strenuous for me? Any help would be appreciated... and don't say 'Stop working on it', because I'm not going to, I'm finishing this by the end of Spring.
From your post i keep getting the feeling that you're just tired of working on it, especially after that time you lost most of your material and had to start over. Don't force yourself to do something you don't want to do. It's not worth it to stress out over something like this, especially if it could affect actual important things in your life. If you really want to keep this going, i suggest taking a break, and set a deadline for the break to end. I'm sure that's a deadline you'd be able to keep.
I would take some time off if it's affecting you like this. I wouldn't worry about making people wait I think we're all capable of understanding and would rather you be in good spirits. It's no fun knowing that you're feeling really pressured to meet dates for these. Everyone should have enjoyment from this, that includes you. Life's busy, but you don't need to completely bury yourself. Take it easy man.
If you're getting worn out, take a break. That's what I did with Ookami Den. I really didn't feel like doing it, and forcing it will hurt the quality of the end product.
Taking time out for yourself is important too. Here's the thing. If you're anything like me, you might procrastinate or not have much motivation to work on whatever, or you're tired of working on it and do other stuff, but /you/ know that you're supposed to be working on it and every minute that you screw off makes you feel guilty that you're not doing what you're supposed to be doing. So in the end you half-ass both the project and your relaxation time and not much gets done. The solution would be to set time aside /specifically/ for a break. Don't work on said project, don't think about it. And because screwing off is what you're /supposed/ to be doing, you won't feel guilty about it, so when that time is up you can attack the project with fresh and renewed vigor! It doesn't have to be like a month or anything, it could be a week, or even just a day. Just make some /you/ time where you just focus on relaxing. Rent a movie, take a bubble bath, make some tea, eat some ice cream, whatever it is you do when you wanna spoil yourself. Then when that time is up, get back to it. Trying to force yourself to slog through something you don't wanna do is going to just make yourself resent whatever it is you're working on and both yourself and the project will suffer for it. Like I said, it doesn't have to be a month, it could just be a single day. But to get the maximum benefit from it, it has to be dedicated /you/ time. Give it a shot, what's a day or two gonna hurt?
