Hey! Thought I'd check in to see if there's any military bronies/pegasisters out there! Made a group for us military folk to show off some military pride so join on in. (group: Military Bronies)
I myself am shipping out to Marine Corps basic training in 14 days, want to hear a shout out from all the other armed service bronies out there, no matter where you serve!
Be you an active duty, reservist, military dependant, retired, veteran or whatever your affiiliation with the military is, lets hear your story!
    ...
If there are other military bronies out there o_O

Short version of my story: I grew up an Air Force kid, got to travel around the world and be around the military my whole life. The first time I saw Marines was up in Fairbanks AK when the "The Commandant's own" Marine Corps band came to play up at Eielson AFB. My dad told me about those Marines, and even though they are band players, each of them was a professionally trained rifleman, and the finest fighting force in the American military. I've always had a reverance for the Marines since then, and am honored to have the oppurtunity to earn the title and serve my country amongst them!

I myself am a strong pacifist, but many of my friends either already have or are considering joining the military. Most of which have joined/are thinking of joining the New Zealand Navy.

My country is known for its very poor military power.

Though I have a small interest in rifles, I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in 'Serving my country' or shooting guys.

If conscription ever came into place here in Britain, I'd be catching the next flight to wherever.

Fair opinions, not everyone has to have a military interest. But however, for the record, I'm not all about "shooting guys". I don't have this glorified ideal of war like a lot of people in my country do (I call it the call of duty effect) I'm going in as an intelligence analyst, and not an infantryman lol. I know this one guy, foreign exchange student from Switzerland, was half french so he claimed dual-citizenship in France and came here to America for a 5th year of high school just to avoid the mandatory military service they have there. lol

I looked into doing arty for a while as well, looked like a lot of fun. It was between artillery, tank crew and intel analyst. I think the first two would have been a lot of fun, but I decided analyst looked cool too and figured it transfered into the civilian world a lot better. Not a lot of tank jobs outside the military lol.

Ideally, I'd like everyone in the world to work together. But since that's almost an impossibility, I'm perfectly fine with war as long as it's for a good reason (corrupt government, terrorism, etc.). I'm not sure how many military bronies there are on this site but I know there are quite a few military bronies in the world.

I don't really want to join the military (I'm just too lazy) but I do respect those who do. In my town, we used to honour the soliders whilst they were being repatriated.

I'll be heading into the AirForce sooner or later.
I'm taking Pilot courses as a high school class as long as AP Physics and I'll be taking a four year college hopefully majoring in aeronautics or astronomical studies. At the end of it all I'll join the Air Force as a 2nd LT Pilot.

One of my best friends is a marine. He was shipped out or serving on a ship last I checked. He'll be home in about 9-12 months now, I think. The funniest part is he was so short and skinny when we were in high school. Now that he's a marine, I'm kind of afraid to mess with him. xD Lots of respect.

My first job consideration was infact military Related, I was thinking of joining the South African Air Force, I was excited and everything, because I want to fly, but not jumbo jets, because that is boring. But then a dream breaker came in: My eyesight, apparently I have to have perfect vision, i do not have that so I cannot join. I was so disappointed, I was so looking forward to flying those awesome military choppers we have, (Called the Rooivalk)

So now I am looking into a job in Air ambulance or rescue medic. I must admit, i respect and look up to those soldiers, pilots, in fact anyone in the military, you have to be so mentally strong to endure the things I hear that the military do. I could probably join and do well if I wanted to, I do have a strong will...but I want to fly, not be part of infantry or any other divisions.

So yeah. I salute you Askad

Ah, I'm sorry to hear about your eyesight, that must have been rough to hear :/ ya the military gets picky about who they let in now, i watched a bunch of people wash out in processing (and for the dumbest things) However, good to hear you're still looking to do service in one way or another. I had a short look into piloting for a while, but the analyst job opened up.
And thank you for your appreciation :) and ya, no infantry for me either lol. I'll be in the rear with the gear haha. Intelligence should be fun though, can't wait to start my tech school.

I have been in the Air Force active duty for about a year now. 554 RED HORSE Squadron Andersen AFB Guam. My story about becoming a brony is kinda funny. I knew a guy that watched the show while I was in tech school and I would make fun of him just like everyone else but what caught me off gaurd was it did not bother him. So I checked out an episode. I decided to watch the first one and I hated it. It was exactly what I thought it would be. Girly. But the cliff hanger about nightmare moon was stuck in my head so I had to at least watch one more so I can see what happens. And that's when I got hooked. Me and that other guy became instant friends. I was in denial for a long time about being a brony but I slowly realized that I love these talking ponies and they have changed my attitude for the better. I am more happy now than I have been in a long time. These arn't just cartoons.

Back to my military life... I'm deploying for my first time very soon for 7 months to Afghanistan and I'm really nervous about it. Anyone that has deployed before and has any advise I would greatly appreciate it.

My uncle is a United States Marine who has been deployed to Afghan twice. His wits, his teamwork, and his cooperation with his squad led to his and other's survival there.

Best of luck to you, sir. I've no intention of joining the military, but I do respect them for doing their duty.

I want to join the navy, but my mom would totally freak out if I told her that.

My mom freaked out when I joined as well Jack. You have to sit her down and tell her the good and ugly of it. Ultimately it is your decision to join or not and you should not let anyone convince you of joining or not joining. I don't regret joining at all but I know several people who do so make sure you put a lot of thought into it. If you need someone to talk to about it you can always ask. I recomend you don't talk to recruiters untill you have decided to join though. They are sneaky.
