While browsing through the Zandronum forums, I discovered two threads: One for Bronies and one for Brony haters. It was quite interesting to read what everyone had to say. It's also funny because the hate thread was locked.

I can understand why most people dislike bronies and downright hate My Little Pony in general. But I also see that some bronies give the community a bad name by attempting to force the show on other communities when they show no interest. Every time, it always leads to hate, arguments, and locked threads. How has the fandom effected unrelated communties? Almost any forum you go to has a My Little Pony thread. Here are the links to the Zandronum threads.

This is a problem with image. No group is ever going to have a perfect image because most people will feel like a few individuals gives them a bad name. I wholeheartedly oppose the idea of a "fandom" because it encourages this sort of generalization. When a group of fans get together and socialize because they have something in common, these people should not be judged as being members of some sort of constant, interactive social unit. Oftentimes, people take these labels on for themselves, not understanding that others will read too much into it. If I tell you I'm a Brony, I mean that I like My Little Pony (and no more than that). That should be enough.

Sometimes, this is not the case. The "haters" in question can have judged the group based on a preconceived generalization, and are therefore too closed-minded to allow their beliefs to be influenced by any new definition of what they have already labeled.

I rather think this thread should go under the "Community Discussion" sub-forum.

There will always be haters of something, that's how life is. As you said, if you force your opinion down people's throats, bad stuff happens lol.

Ohh life is so... interesting. So are the people and their many different ways of thinking.

Sometimes I wish I was a pony, then there wouldn't be very much hate, and any hate could be destroyed by that magic of friendship :)

I don't ever say I hate anytjing, just dislike things. Like I never hate anyone, but I do dislike what certain people do :)

The majority of bronies are cool people, whereas the vocal majority are annoying. And why is that? The annoying ones keep trying to force the show on others, whereas the cool bronies keep quiet and let others get on with their life.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with admitting that you like the show, but like Professor Oak says "There's a time and place for everything"

    These both. xD
I usually think about what life'd be like in Equestria... It'd be pretty fantastic. And as for the not saying "Hate"? I think it might occassionally escape my mouth, but rarely i a serious manner. I usually say I "dislike" things instead

Heh, sometimes, I dunno whether I'm forcing the show down peoples throats. I don't directly talk to people about ponies, unless they're a brony or they're questioning me about it. Occasionally, me and my Brony friends will, for a laugh, do something silly (like spelling "Ponies" with some letter'd folders on the Study Room's bookcase) and I'm very open about my love of ponies, often logging into the everypony in the middle of the study room. People sometimes notice my bright pink theme. But surely, the folder thingeh's just for a laugh, and the logging into pony sites? What goes on on my computer's none of anyone else's business... Is it?
I sometimes don't know if I'm getting to the stage where I'm throat-shoving-downing.

There's nothing wrong with that. What you're doing is absolutely fine. An example of throat-shoving-downing would be deliberately disrupting someone's conversation by talking about ponies. That was a bad example, but you see what I'm getting at.

I don't like the idea of people trying to force other people to watch a show that they are not interested in watching .

My opinion on the whole brony thing is 'to each, his (her) own'. I love My Little Pony and would like to be a brony. But others have a right to like or dislike anything and MLP is no exception. I am just glad most of my friends are ok or even embrace me being a brony.

Unfortunately, I find the majority of Bronies to be obnoxious and far too defensive of MLP. (*cough*)

The minority that don't rave on about MLP on every other YouTube video just because of a little reference, or make remarks about MLP being superior to anime because MLP was made for girls in the first place and anime was made for 'girly men' (*cough cough cough*), are those who I like.

My Testy, that seems quite specific a comment. It's as if you're talking about someone in particular.

I'm not sure about MLP affecting other communities, but I do see an MLP/Brony thread on near enough every forums I check out. We've definitely reached out far, from furries, anime, games and various other TV fandoms.

One thing I have noticed is that it's given a lot of people a slap in the face in terms of judging things before you see them, so they give second looks to things that otherwise seem something they'd dislike. I know that people are watching Littlest Pet Shop because of this effect. It made me watch Gravity Falls (which I love).

If there's one thing that being a brony has taught me it has taught me not to judge a show before watching it otherwise I wouldn't be watching Littlest Pet Shop or Gravity Falls.

Eh, I just watch things for no reason.
It's how I got into MLP, I just thought "why not?" and clicked play. I do that for most things these days.

As for bronies, I agree with Testy, although I know quite a few who don't fit into that stereotype. They ma homies.

Well i also agree with Testy here... I love mlp, but why do some have to make mlp commentaries on every damn youtube video. I go on youtube and watch a Black Metal Video and find mlp commentaries... its also getting on my nerves a little.

On the other hand i have to say at least in the area i live a lot of bronies do listen to metal. To be concrete i dont know a bronie, that is not a metaller, too. Might also be because i mostly know metalheads. For the other forums im on there is no mlp thread, but they are only for small communities, like my guildwars 2 guild, or my d2n meta and stuff.

On Alternatehistory.com, we still talk about the great Pony Wars from October 2011-January 2012. Mainly about how stupid we are for getting banned over a TV show, but it's still talked about nonetheless. It was even bigger than the dispute over whether Russia should be coloured Gold or Green on maps.

Bronies are no better or worse then any other fan base, yes many can be annoying to non fans, but that can be said of any fanbase, heck sometimes you can even be annoyed by the fanbase you are a part of, thats just the internet. I will say this though, Bronies thankfully don't yet feel me with the level of unbridled rage my fellow anime fans & gamers do at times, so thats a good thing I guess. XD
