But not life as we know it... Intelligent robots that could think and feel inhabited the cities. They were called Autobots and Decepticons. But the brutal Decepticons were driven by a single goal, total domination. They set out to destroy the peace-loving Autobots once and for all. And so began the war... a war that ravaged the planet until it was consumed by death, and depleted its once-plentiful energy resources. Desperate to survive, the Autobots fled Cybertron, and looked for a planet to replenish their dying world. As the Decepticons followed them, both factions crashed upon a planet that would provide more than everything they needed... Four million years later, they awoke on the planet Earth, a planet teeming with biological life, especially the dominant species, bipedal apes called "humans," whose technology and understanding of the universe were many millennia behind either Autobots or Decepticons. To decrease suspicion, they assumed the forms of various objects on Earth, primarily motor vehicles, and could transform back and forth at will. As the two factions fought on Earth, their new home, the Autobots grew to care for the young human species, while the Decepticons saw them as annoying pests not worth protecting. The conflict came to a climax in the Earth year 2005, when the devourer of worlds, Unicron, came to Earth, Optimus Prime, heroic leader of the Autobots, was killed, and Megatron, the vile Decepticon tyrant, was upgraded to Galvatron. In this, their darkest hour, a young Autobot named Hot Rod opened the Matrix of Leadership, and lit the darkness, repelling the threat of Unicron once and for all. After many more months of fighting, Autobots and Decepticons alike fell victim to a plague of hatred, corrupting their sanity and morality. But then, when the plague was at its worst, the impossible happened... Optimus Prime had returned. Using the Matrix of Leadership, he saved them all from their delirium, and a truce was established with the grateful Galvatron. But it was short-lived. Soon, the fighting resumed, and by the Earth year 2016, the Earth was in the same ruined state as Cybertron. The Autobots scattered across the galaxy, hoping to find more sources of energy, and rebuild their home. They searched every star... every world... And just as all hope seemed lost, a new discovery drew them to an unknown land called... Equestria. As before, the Autobots left Earth for this new world, with the Decepticons in pursuit. It was only a matter of who would get there first...
