I've noticed several other Vbulletin forums have special MP3 tags for youtube videos. Using these tags will display the progress bar of the video, but not the video itself. This is useful for posting various songs and whatnot. Or just for making the video in a post stand out less than the post itself. Tags like this could prove useful. There is a "1 video per post" limit. I assume it's because they take up space. If people were able to post only the progress bar without the video, you could allow them to post more at once, right? Worth looking into?
There is an MP3 setting, but I don't know if it works with youtube... one second! [MP3]http://www.youtube.com/watch?src_vid=tuhN-XQgvis&v=itZPFAc7CIA&annotation_id=annotation_988078&feature=iv[/MP3] We'll know in a second!:derpe:
[mp3]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBWW1RT2BGQ[/mp3] I don't know about anyone else, but for me, it just says "buffering..." the whole time. It doesn't do anything.
The MP3 /MP3 tags are made for a url that ends specifically with a .mp3. ie: [noparse]http://www.mysite.org/media/[/noparse]450.mp3 The only way you can do what was described in the OP, are via custom BBcodes, which need to be added separately. Specific parameters are set with HTML, and are simply emulated with a BBcode tag. ie: the bold tags [noparse] [/noparse] are simply using HTML <b>{param}</b>
Do you speak english too? (tech stuff confuses me ) As i said, i've seen other Vbulletin forums who added useable mp3 tags for youtube videos and even added a button for those tags in the message editor: Since EPR is also a Vbulletin forum, doesn't that make it equally possible here?
Sorry...heh. Let me try to explain. You can't just put a tag that another forum uses here and expect it to work. In fact, BBcode tags by themselves actually do nothing! To make a BBcode tag work, they are added into the forums via the site's control panel. You specify the tag you would like to use (doesn't matter). What makes them actually work, is the parameters you set for them, which is usually simple HTML code. The bold tags could be renamed to anything, and still work. They just simply emulate the HTML parameters that are set for them. ie: BBcodes simply emulate coding that was set for them under the hood. If this is something you guys REALLY want, it can be looked into, but no promises. :derpe:
I wasn't expecting them to. I just used those particular tags as an example. I was aware we had MP3 tags, but those are entirely different from what i'm talking about. People never post MP3's, they post Youtube videos. We need something similar to those MP3 tags for Youtube instead. The current MP3 tags are useless, whereas Youtube MP3 tags would serve the same purpose, but won't be useless. savvy? I knew that much. It's just the actual usage of those codes that confuse me, really. THIS is what i'm trying to accomplish with this thread. :derpe:
Ok guys. Here's a decent workaround. Use http://www.youtubetomp3.com/ and paste the Youtube URL you want to use as an mp3. The following link will be the download link. Right click and copy the link. Place MP3 tags around it. It's not as direct, but does work for now. [mp3]http://www.youtubetomp3.com/load/YouTube/4By8YHOnILo/116c1a7793f9c3a6c30327b0dcd04479/[/mp3]
Thanks. Have a cookie for effort! *wiggles cookie infront of your eyes, then throws it in the distance* Adding a more direct button for this in the message editor would be nice, but knowing how to do this much helps too. EDIT: Said website is asking me to make an account and a 10 USD donation...
While that will work for a while, I'm not sure how long it'll store the converted files on its server. I can look into implementing something similar to your suggestion but as Mike pointed out it's not a matter of *download bbcode* -> *put on Vbulletin* The bbcode in question is very likely some html that calls a special, custom made flash or js file that parses youtube videos in a certain way to hide the video display. Without taking a look at example code - which I can't do without being an admin on said forum - It's not something I've seen or even heard about before. Nevertheless, I'll take a look, at least.
It appears the most popular way to do it is actually disgustingly simple (yes, disgustingly). All people seem to do is change the size of the embedded object. Cutting out the video portion. Of course, this is a pretty atrocious way to go about things not least because it has unpredictable effects from browser to browser and video to video but you're forcing a user to load a whole youtube video (including the video) but only allowing them to listen to the audio. Idk. Do you really it want that? I'll keep looking but it's not sounding too great to me. You know we have soundcloud tags right?
Well, people still need to be allowed to post videos, of course. If what you're saying means you'd have to remove video posting completely in order to make this idea work then don't do it. as for the soundcloud, i never actually used that website before. i'll take a look
Pfft, no. I mean even if it appears as audio only, the video is still there. You just can't see it. Your pc is still downloading and streaming the entire video. This method also seems to no longer work, probably something to do with changes to youtube's embed code or core player. So you may as well just use the video embed. =/ ?
Well if that's the case, then yeah, this idea probably isn't as useful as i thought it could be. My idea was to be able to post the sound of the video without actually having to load the video itself. But if it works like you say it does, it won't make a difference. Oh well, i'll let my mind sort out some other ideas. [video=youtube;QzalaBInLkw]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzalaBInLkw[/video]
mp3 tags don't seem to work for me v nothing? [MP3]http://k005.kiwi6.com/hotlink/66cvbt7xkl/turretstuckintube09.mp3[/MP3]
