Well, first I'd like to say, If there's a better place to post this, please redirect me, if not, enjoy! Now, on track with the topic, I'd like to talk about my transformation into a brony. The reason I'm talking about this is because I feel like it's fairly interesting. *Adds the word "Brony" to his Firefox dictionary* The best way to start, would probably be to talk about myself. I recently turned 16, and have two brothers, One older and one younger, My little brother isn't quite a pre-teen, but my older just got out of the U.S. Army. We all live in one house with my parents. (Who I would say are a little over-protective) I've never really minded watching younger kids stuff, but I never thought I would find myself in a state like this. I watched shows like "Blue's Clue's" and "Franklin" Till' I was like 9-10 I'm home-schooled so I've never really had to worry about having a reputation or a large sense of dignity, though, nobody I know, knows I'm a brony (I've made sure of that I had a vague sense that MLP as a meme existed, for a good while before I became a brony. Though I didn't know it was a subculture as large as this. I guess I should move on with kinda the original story I'm a big fan of PC gaming and I really like Minecraft (If you don't know what that is... wtf?) Which, funnily enough, led me into being a brony. If you don't know, there's a mythical/fanfic character in Minecraft called Herobrine, who's pretty much this fictional dead brother of Notch (Who created Minecraft) And kinda haunts you. So the next part to tell would be, I've been on facebook for a good while and I found someone who made their name "Herobrine" as a joke. I had him on my friends list for a solid, four months. One day, I come onto Facebook, log in, and, find a status from a "Friend" Named "Spittie Pie" When I saw this I was honestly just like... WTF?? I did NOT add you! And I actually posted that on her/his wall. I'm going to see if I can find that conversation somewhere. I put it somewhere for future use. Unfortunately, the account was deleted for not being a real person (I say again, WTF!?) Alright, I DID Find it. (Thank celestia) Here's how it went down Me: Why the heck am I friends with "Spittie Pie"??? Robin Korela: me too ???? Spittie Pie: Because you both just cant get enough pink ponies! ? Robin Korela: Yay! Me: BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Me: THIS IS WEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIRRRRDD Me: I am disturbed! So many people are friended with you! Including tons of MINECRAFT people! It's a MINECRAFT TARGETED DISEASE!!! Me: ?*Comes back after some research* Is this... Herobrine? Spittie Pie: It sure was! Me: BWAHAHAHA I FIGURED IT OUT!!! My only question is why though... Spittie Pie: happy lovey ponies are SO MUCH MORE fun than a blocky shadowy killer guy ? Me: You know what. I'm keeping you as a friend. Just because. So, I guess that's what started it. From there, Spittie Pie posted a link to Everypony Radio Playing this song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKeMCXKSk5c I like to believe that's what did it. I wasn't a brony right away after I heard this, but as soon as I heard this I was like "Woah, there's some good stuff here" Then Everypony Radio proceeded to play the most girly song that I don't remember for good reason. Sometime after hearing that I did a little (And I mean LITTLE) Google-ing and found this site. http://www.thebronyblog.com/search?updated-max=2011-07-21T14:06:00+08:00&max-results=7 First words "I am a 24 year old male" My thoughts: "Huh, A guy watches this?" I proceeded to read his blog post and, while we differ on that whole kids shows thing, I saw a bit of myself in him (Though I see myself in everyone) A day later I was in a skype room with some friends and-- Hold on, Another thing to say about myself. Whenever I learn something, or see something new, I see it EVERYWHERE. It's not that I suddenly start to notice it, it's that, once I sense it, it senses me... Anyway, A day after this, in a skype room with some friends. Someone mentions ponies. My Little Ponies. When I heard that, I recognized that this was going to hit me, like every other new thing I learned. I knew it was going to be a part of my life. Anything that does that to me, does. And I was like... Wait for it... Wait for it.. W T F!?!?!?!!?!? So, after reading a bit more of that guys blog, I finally decided to try out the first episode. My first thoughts from it. OMG I LOVE TWILIGHT I'M SO MUCH LIKE HER!! Then OMG I Like Fluttershy SO MUCH I'm even more like her! (And I am) And AFLG I hate pinkie pie!!!! I'm Sorry to any PP lovers but, the constant spazzy random just does NOT do it for me. I thought Rainbow, Rarity, And AppleJack were Okay. (And still do) After the first two episodes, I just HAD to watch the rest, and I did, And I'm eagerly waiting The next episode TL;DR I had an interesting time becoming a brony, and I'd like to hear your stories!
Wow, that was a way bigger post than I intended... I'm glad I did it though, it's like a big weight off my chest.
Cool story. My story was regular. I just decided to try it after a couple months and didn't know about it until a friend showed me a clip of it on Facebook when I still had a FB account. (Got disabled for pretending to be a fake account...but I had IRL info/friends on it.) Then I got hooked. P.S: Rainbow Dash forever.
I was on another web site and some of the members started displaying these odd pony avatars. So I asked one of them about where they came from and what was the deal with them? He gave me a brief but well written explanation of MLP:FiM and its widespread appeal, and linked me to a few selected episodes. Being the moderately adventurous sort, who's always liked animation anyway, I tried it. I knew before I was finished with the first episode that I would be watching the rest of them. The writing, animation style, and humor are all right up my alley. It wasn't difficult at all for me to appreciate the show. I never fought it at all. I was amused from the start and I'm amused now.
My story is nothing much, I got bored at lunch one day. I had run out of stuff to watch and said what the hay. By episode 3 I loved the show. Spoiler: spoiler Rainbow Dash is the best
My own conversion was quite simple. I heard about the show, noticed an exeptionally large following, I could find people with pony avatars even on websites that has nothing to do with it. The show got reccomended by a (for me) respected crtitic. By that point I had to watch the show to form an own opinion. I never resisted in the slightest the notion that I was a brony. In fact, I hoped I would be even before I watched the show simply for the rebelious edge that would give me. (What can be more rebelious than a guy watching MLP) . I second that motion.
Ahh, one of those topics. Alright, here's mine: I woke up, doing my things, same routine, everyday stuff. I decided to turn to browsing the web for a while when suddenly I started to notice ponies. I thought this was none of my concern so I continued browsing, but everywhere I go, there's ponies in avatars, topics, and alot of the gaming community. I decided to go to the blockland forums which recently I lost all respect of that forum and there I see more ponies of avatars of people who play blockland. I was wondering how do they even get here either, until I saw the topic roaming around the off topic isle. I went there and it contained a whopping load of ponies. I fussed about it thinking how the heck did this spread, so I joined with my Gmail account. I asked whats with this and thus caused a flame war. I knew whenever I saw this I avoided it. I watched the episodes to see what's the hype all about. watched the first season, its pretty good I thought. This didn't had effect until I didn't react badly to ponies. After a while, I became one. Tl;dr, I became a brony while browsing some forum.
Nice story! I have a similar one all the way up to the word facebook, where yours got interesting, lol. Since everypony else is doing it, might as well have a go... I turned Brony on the minecraft forums. I found this guy in suggestions who had a Twilight avatar, and then noticed other pony avatars. I got curious and typed in to google "Why do so many males have my little pony avatars!!?" and found a promising review on the show. I got curious about it and gave episode 1 a go. Ta da! And YEAH PC GAMING!! WOO!
Wow, sweet, I didn't realize people would actually post here. Whenever I make a thread, ANYWHERE, it gets completely ignored. Thanks guys!
My Favorite Brony group go deleted. It was awesome and better then all the other ones I've seen so far.
I just started watching the show and then I became a brony instantly. Straight and simply is my game.
Oh, and, for my conversion story, follow the following link and when you're done reading that page read the next page too: http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/...le-pony-friendship-magic-190042/index118.html
I'm constantly reminded of my 'bronification' every time I talk to my boy-- dudefriend. Mandudefriendboy. Uhh. It's complicated... <____<;; Anyway, we're both animators (glory be!) and, of course, this was the Summer of the Pony. Friends told friends to watch the show, other friends scoffed, friends were bronified and soon it spread like wildfire. But not to us! We laughed, "ha! Another reboot based on a children's toy!" and adjusted our monocles earned through countless hours of staring at Flash and scribbling on Wacom tablets, praying for a Cintiq to no avail. "Haha! Quite so, my chap! I don't need to watch this show! I'm sure I'll forget it exists in a few weeks." Yeah. Right. Like, I vividly remember saying to my mother right after Spongebob first aired: "Pfft. A show about a sponge in tighty-whiteys? It'll never catch on!" *eats hat* Well, I headed back to my respective coast and, as every jobless college hobo does over the summer, grew intolerably bored. I tried to draw. I tried to animate, to work on my thesis, hell, I even went to the gym. Then one day, it happened... "Well," I thought, "I wonder what that pony show is all about. I bet I can find the pilot online. Just to check it out... professional curiosity, you know?" *36 hours and an entire season later* I call the mandudefriendboy. "So... uhh, you know how we said we'd never get caught watching that pony show?" "..." "Well... I... I feel like I need to tell you. I watched it." "WOT." "ITWASREALLYGOODANDTHEANIMATIONWASFANTASTICLIKEREALLYAMAZINGQUALITYANDIWANTAFLUTTERSHYCANIRIDEBIGMACINTOSH?" Well, maybe not that last bit, but... yeah. The rest is history. Still working on getting the dude to watch an episode. Even if he has (which he totally should, as, you know, a fellow animator...) I'm sure he wouldn't tell me unless he went full-on brony. We'll see. It's my next project
my conversion was fairly straightforward-it would seem. at lunch, two of my friends went on an "i love ponies" rant. i was intrigued, an a little worried for them. i decided to watch the first episode, just to see if it was really as good as my friends said. ... it was the greatest cartoon ever created. i was hooked by episode 4. similar to SunBurn, i was around episode 20 when i was so into the show, i saw it EVERYWHERE. the Ponies were in my head 24/7. they would gallop around my cranium, looking for the best place to stay. im pretty sure PP ate some of my sanity cortex(it would explain a lot). so i just gave up hope of them ever leaving. then they calmed down. they took a background seat... until i found this site. the ponies are not as crazy as they used to be, but they are stilll there. and im proud of them. Spoiler: the obvious truth RBD+AJ FOR THE WIN
Hehe, I only have one friend and the internet itself to be open with as well. Unfortunately, my friend caught me in the act of searching something Pony-related, and I'm not that best on the spot liar whenever it's something relatively petty such as this. He didn't care to much, but I would have preferred him not knowing, lol.
I'm regularly thinking about ponies as well. I'm glad I live in the woods. I can go outside and sing the My Little Pony theme song without fear of my brothers/parents hearing me
My conversion : So, watching PSG, having my mind asplode. Result? I come to the conclusion that I like something proportionally to how mind-changing it is. This leads into argument about MLP being mind-chaning. I lul'd, since I doubted that anything can break minds better than PSG. This was technically true, but still. Aboot 2 months later, I decide to see what all this hurly burly was about. Ended up watchin the entire season over the course of one week. Sucess! Aboot 1 month after that, I end up here, and become, as I did with Touhou before this, a veritable database of all and any pony knowledge. Not as much as Touhou of course, but still. I've been here almost 4 months. No regrets, minus that one time things got hairy with Ripp_. That could have gone better.
My conversion was very similar. Except the conversions were one week after each of yours. ~Ish. And without the Touhou. Except it also involved gratuitous amounts of Halo. And Halo 2. And Halo 3. And Halo 3: ODST. And Halo: Reach. And then more Halo 3. And then highest skill 50 in Team Snipers. And then "Ow my thumbs! Why are you trying to further deprive me of sleep?"
