Well I did it I presented MLP in front of my class and recorded it. It did not go as well as I hope. The stage freight took hold of me something fierce. I don't understand why. I did not expect my body and mind to protest what I was doing. Anyway I got through it and presentation wasn't terrible, it was just very all over the place and I had extended pauses fairly often. I ended up doing a lot of on the cuff stuff, since it was hard to read the palm cards with my hand shaking and I had difficulty making eye contact with the audience. The other problem was the audience they were very boring, they hardly reacted to anything I said or did and did not laugh at the clips from the show at all. They did laugh at the shirt reveal and gave me a round of applause at the end. Well the good thing about that is that they were the same afterward, they didn't care at all that I like ponies and didn't treat me any differently. They didn't even mind me going in public with them wearing the Fluttershy shirt to have lunch. Anyway I am relieved that it is done with and can finally stop hiding my bronydom. I am now going 100% public with it and it is liberating. There is a lot of dead air that will probably be boring for a Youtube audience so I think I'm going to edit all the pauses and me fumbling stuff out. So yeah It's no Physics guy performance, but should hopefully be fairly entertaining, if you like public speeches about MLP. I have watched many and I don't think I did any better then most of them. Oh Well. Maybe I'm being too self critical maybe you guys will like it. Amazing Setzer! Should be like the awesome Physics guy. "It's awesome, It's awesome, (x??), animation is great." :derpe: Anyways I'm still watching the video and it is awesome. Represent the Bronies! *Brohoof* EDIT: I'd also like to know what the ending song is.
I HATE shaky hands with a passion, mine already shake a bit even when I'm calm! Don't worry about the boring crowd, maybe they were just chill? It's likely seeing as how they were cool with everything! I'm still watching it, but great job Setzer!!!!!
Well played sir. It is a shame though about your audience lacking, um, seemingly any form of motivation. Great though you got a laugh or two at the end.
you did better than any of my class presentations, and even the subject that may not be so confortable to talk about, you were pretty well. congratulations! *hugs*
Well I'm glad you got the presention over and your classmates treat you the same. Bro-hoof I'll watch the video when I get off of work. Can't wait. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
As I said a couple of days ago, the method of presentation is just as important as the presentation itself. Anyhow, you've got it over with, and I'll watch the recording when I have the chance.
My presentation created 2 new bronies over night. Here's a dedicated thread about it. http://www.everypony.com/forums/showthread.php?974-My-first-conversions.
That was a VERY cool story, bro! You mentioned all most important aspect of the show and it's characters in a very logical and organic manner, and you didn't at all trouble too much trying to convince the audience about how 'not-girly' and 'manly' MLP is (just enough!). You looked rather nervous in the beginning when some things went wrong a I believe (even though you did infinitly better than any of my presentations), but it wasn't bothersome anymore after that. You looked pretty relaxed and confident to me, for as far that was possible. Was it just me or is the guy in the back a bit of a...
The guy in the back if I am assuming right next to the lecturer is not normal or very well liked in the class, so no one took his reactions to anything seriously. But I think he actually helped the performance by shouting out 'it beat trollface and nyan cat' then explaining to my lecturer 'it beat some really famous ones'. So he was helpful in getting my point across. Anyway here is the second part where I answered questions from the audience.
Oh jeez, I felt nervous just watching it, I wouldn't dream of coming out of the stable that way of all methods, but I have much respect for you for doing so in this way... also the presentation was fantastic!
lol @ CyanSnow79's comment on your video, "Balls of steel." I told you there would be at least one obligatory ball-comment. I knew it! I don't see why you were so critical of yourself. Overall, the presentation seems fine to me. Albeit a bit selfish of me, I must admit that when you mentioned how Applejack being an earth pony doesn't take away from her significance as a character, I felt pretty good, and you know why. I can't thank you enough for not only providing me, but other members the opportunity to assist you with suggestions. When I saw you reveal your Fluttershy shirt, I was cheering. I was like, "Yes! That's so awesome! You are the freakin' man!" I see the audience reacted to that somewhat. Speaking of the audience, the only one that bothered me was that one guy that put his head down. I can't believe the instructor didn't say anything to him. That's just downright rude. Other than that, maybe they were just focused. I know that even when I'm in class and I'm listening to an interesting topic, I may look similar, but it's not because I'm bored. Anyway, I'm going to give you some "IRL rep" here, for working so hard on your presentation. Darn these reputation limits! It says I have to spread it around more before I can give you some. Don't let me forget! I'll try to remember.
Posting this on ponychan, got some interesting comment. Seems some bronies are angry that I mentioned 4chan. Was this a mistake? But it's not like I didn't give you all a chance to correct it if it was a bad idea. http://www.ponychan.net/chan/pony/res/35779094.html#35779218
Why is it a bad idea? It's a fact that it was thanks to 4chan's /co/ and /b/ that the show even became as popular as it is, is it not? If you omitted that, then you'd be omitting a fact from your presentation. You mentioned already that although 4chan is notorious for being a hate-filled place full of trolls, it instead embraced the show. So, to answer your question, no, it was not a mistake. We would've said something if we thought it was a bad idea. If there are bronies that don't like the fact 4chan is mentioned, too bad. It's part of our history whether we like it or not. I don't particularly care for 4chan, but I'm not going to cover up the fact that we owe the origin of the brony community to them.
>>35779100 Step 1: *Don't Care* Step 2: ...Wonder why they don't want us to mention 4chan. >>35779178 Pretty much. >>35779329 :derpe: _________________________________________ ^ This.
Yeah exactly I defended this is my youtube comments by saying, I believe in honest reporting even if a certain fact isn't nessecarily in your favour. I would equate bronies saying don't mention 4chan to germans saying don't mention Hitler.
I haven't used 4chan in a few years but I see no reason to hate it. The fandom did get it's start there so I don't see why bronies would have an issue with it. As much as I want to forget about /b/, the internet wouldn't be the internet without it.
I don't know much about 4chan either. I just keep hearing about how bad it is. But bad is a relative term.
