So, there was couple posts about someone calling their newborn baby Pinkameina. So, ok, Pinkamina isn't that bad, but what's going too far. if you ask me, when you're having a baby, it's ok to name it after someone: friend, relative, movie star, then why not cartoon character if name sounds (or is) normal? My real name is adverb in English (Feel), my sister got her name from movie character, my friend's daughter got her name from name of band (Molly), one my relative is called Vienna (by city in Austria). so, ok, I think Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy are too much, but Rarity.. sounds kinda normal human name. Not very common, but normal, if you ask me. I even have one irl friend who's real name is Verarity (she didn't know about mlp until she met me). So, basically, that's Rarity with "Ve" added in front. call me crazy, but I would like kids in future (that is, if I'll be able to find someone to have kids with), and I've already think of what i'd name my kids (if my (hopefully) future wife agrees), and I thought Miles for a boy kid (by Miles "Tails" Prower), and Rarity for a girl kid. (honestly, if you never heard for mlp:fim, would you think that Rarity is a cartoon name.
There is a kid named "Bus shelter number 16" Language is a little "bad" near the end. ONE MORE THING: I made that post, I still think it's stupid. I think I'll name my daughter Platinum.
I think that naming your child after a cartoon character is okay, so long as it's a subtle reference and doesn't sound too... Weird. Like "Rainbow Dash Jones" would not work as a name. XD I think Pinkie's okay, so long as she's JUST pinkie, then whatever else- Like "Pinkie Jones" maybe. Jones sounds weird in front of Pinkie though, I'm not good with examples. Sh'up. But If it's something so obviously obvious, it's obvious, I think it'd be too obvious. Something less obvious would probably be better.
Rarity is probably the closest thing you can get to a real name in the pony universe Heck, before I was a brony I knew all of the names of the mane 6 but Rarity. I guess Luna would also be obscure enough to pass off as a normal name. (This reminds me of a conversation I had with my friend about a week ago. We were discussing what to name our kids and he wanted to name his Joey. His last name is Wheeler)
He better stock up on cards then. Names after ponies? Rarity could work, Cadence too.....Lyra? Hmmm.... I wouldn't name my kids after ponies, personally. I have picked out names I'd like.
Some names could work (Luna, Lyra). Others wouldn't (Derpy, Rainbow Dash). And in my opinion, Rarity sounds a bit like a stripper name... I am now that most hated member on the forum.
Honestly, if there ever comes a time when I am expecting a child of my own and need to think of names for him/her, I'm going to be thinking less of what I would want their name to be, and more thinking about what they would want their name to be. Meaning, something they could live with, something they wouldn't be picked on for, something that they can grow up with and use with confidence no matter where life would take them, something they could use professionally, whether they become a mechanic, or a doctor or whatever. Remember, they will be writing their names on their school tests, college application forms, job applications, government forms, checks, bowling alley scoreboards.... Do you really want them to be applying to be an intern at a hospital or law firm with name Pinkie? Maybe if they wanted a career in the circus that'd work... As for me, I plan on picking perfectly normal, everyday names if I ever have children. P.S. - Cadence is a legitimate Italian first name for girls. So if you live in Italy, go for it.
Cadence is also quite all right. Rarity, stripper name... idk, never heard of stripper named Rarity. Lyra would also work Luna... well, in Croatia, Luna is often name for pets... so, in Croatia, for humans, Luna would be no go. Well, if Rarity would be no go then Cadence is defiantly. Beside, I usually live close to Italy anyway.
These are the ones I think would pass for a name Pinkamina.....(or possibly pinkie) Lyra (that one would fit in fine) Luna (i'v met a girl named Luna) Rarity (I think would be ok) Celestia (maybe.... Isnt it already a name?) Ummmmm........ *keeps thinking* Oh and Cadence (I really like that one)
You have to consider the child's future when naming them. To name them after cartoon characters can seriously mess up their perception of themselves...and YOU! My name is a sentence. Whether my fore bearers meant it to be I do not know. My first name means warrior or army ruler in old German. My middle name means glen in olde English and my last name means long valley in olde English. So, my name is warrior of the glen from the long valley. Cool name huh? If my parents would have named me after the cartoons of the day I would be called Daffy or Bugs or Woody. I hated my first name (Walter) at first but now I love it. I used to be aggravated with my parents for giving me that name though, before I grew into it. In many people's eyes Walter was a geeky name so I had to overcome being thought a geek on first acquaintance. If they would have named me Bugs or whatever I think it would have had the opposite effect. I would have liked it back then but hate it now.
What's wrong with a nickname? As long as the kid has a legal name to fall back on if they decide they don't like it later. Still, a lot of thought needs to go into it.
Pinkie Jackson sounds awesome. I would call my child Pinkie Jackson. XD ... Just out of interest... D-Does Pinkie Bridges work? Luna Bridges? Cadence Bridges?
Yay! Ooh, I'm liking Silver Spoon Bridges... We should make a What-Pony-Name-Sounds-Right-Before-My-Surname thread. For deffs.
