    I've noticed that quite a few ponies' names seem to match up to their abilities or personalities; Rarity can find rare gems, Scootaloo's good at riding a scooter, Silver Spoon and Diamond Tiara have cutie marks that match their names, Rainbow Dash can fly really fast (the "rainbow" part would have been obvious from birth), Fluttershy's.... shy (and flutters, due to not being a particularly good flier) Sweetie Belle is sweet-natured and arguably has a "voice like a bell", Twist can make sweets (as in "peppermint twists" or whatnot), Snips and Snails, again, have cutie marks that match their names (I'm still curious as to what Snails' talent is), Granny Smith is literally a granny (which begs the question "how did she end up named Granny Smith in the first place?!"), Mr and Mrs Cake both work in a bakery, Photo Finish is a photographer, etc.

    So.... how to the pony parents name their offspring? How do they know which name will suit them best, given that babies haven't really developed any talents or personality traits yet? Some are obvious (Pinkie Pie is pink, Applejack comes from a family all of whom have apple-related names, if fanon is to be believed, Twilight Sparkle is Twilight Twinkle's daughter), but I can't help but wonder if there are pony midwives who can accurately predict what name would be good for the kid or something.

    You clearly don't comprehend.
    The pony's parents are all strict dictators.
    They name their children,
    And then force them into becoming good
    At something related to their names.
    :Trollestia:

    Though I think I know a better reason.
    Probably because this is a children's TV show.
    Therefore,
    To not confuse the kids,
    They have pony names representative of the ponies' abilities.

    This bothers me too. I think greyOne is 100% correct as to why it's the case, but that doesn't mean it's not frustrating to adult fans. ^^;;

    I say magic. Prove me wrong.

    They use a magic 8-ball to name the ponies.
