Nearly outed as Brony at school but would it have been so bad?

So I was at my first class of this semester. The classes were shuffled a bit so that half the class was the people I had gotten close to the last semester and knew would accept me almost no matter what and the other half were new people I had barely met before. One of my friend who liked showing of decided to go onto his Youtube channel during the 15 minutes break, on ta computer that was hooked up to the projector. and talk about it to the class. I was one of only a few subscribers.

He said oh hey I wonder what Setzertrancers been up to and he clicked on my channel and my Positive Qualities PMV started playing automatically.

I made it obvious that the video was mine my saying 'oh how embarrising' and put my head in my arms on the table. I don't think anyone figure it was anything other then some cartoon at first until just before my friend went to a different video and Trixie said "are you out of your little pony minds". I was hardly paying attention to my surroundings but I think someone said "wait what?".

Then it was over, and nobody commented about it and I just started laughing it off. I have no idea if anyone in the class other then my friends actually caught on that it was MLP or not, either they didn't care or they didn't get it.

Then I had a an interesting opportunity that I'm not sure if I made the right decision. it was as if coincidently opportunities to out my self kept coming up. My lecturer asked the class "Is there a TV show you are addicted too?". He went around the class and people gave pretty ordinary responses, one girl admitted to to liking a kids show called Tribes. Then some of my non brony friends who know about my bronyism, were nudging me and I just said, I'm not saying it dude no way. So I didn't. But boy am I curious what would have happened if I had, I really have a good vibe about the class group I'm with, that they won't care, but I've read people wrong before. They are all pretty nerdy and most over 20 so.... did I make the right decision?

Anyway I should have said yep My Little Pony right then it would have been a funnier and more cinematic event. As I'm not going to bother lying about it if anyone ends up asking me directly.

Haha. Wow. That's a toughie. If that happened to me, I think I would've just pretended it wasn't mine unless I started seeing or hearing signs of approval, if that makes sense. As for admitting to liking it, I can see myself doing the same thing you did. I guess it depends on how confident you are in the vibe you were getting, but then again I tend to err on the side of caution myself, so I don't really see anything wrong with the decision you made. Besides, you said that you made it obvious that the video was yours. For all you know, there may be a fellow brony there that noticed your embarrassment and maybe he'll approach you at some point and you'll make an IRL brony friend! :)

I wouldn't worry too much about it. What's done is done. That'd be cool though if a fellow brony was present. I know if I was in your class and I saw that I'd probably approach you at some point to talk about it.

I would be pretty embarrassed too. I doubt that I'd actually admit my addiction, though.

I would've been too much of a coward to do it. However, if an opportunity like that comes up again, I strongly recommend you take it. All you have to do is say the show and people will either laugh it off and drop it or laugh it off and ask many questions. It really depends on you on which is the worst outcome.

Honestly, at this point in my bronydom, I only try to hide it from my parents, since they don't approve of this kind of stuffs. The rest of the world I could care less about. So if I had any pony videos and they suddenly played, I would probably say it was mine if asked. Considering I'm from a gifted/overacheiver program where sanity is lacking anyways I doubt anyone would mind, and that's even if I cared what most of the school thought of this. The people that I do care what they think (i.e. my group of less than sane friends) already know, and are halfway bronies too at this pont.

But in the end, what do you care what people think of you? Does that change who you are? No, you are you. And if someone wants to change that, don't let them.

    Stay pony my friend.

    Getting outed as a Brony?
Not really a problem for me, most of the people around me know, for my part, I'm not worried at all about who knows.

Granted, it's entertaining to watch peoples clueless reactions to the "Equestria Election" posters that I've plastered in random places around school.

well, I it went rather well, didn't it?
one defensive line if someone laughs at you for being a brony: "Problem, officer(s)? " *makes troll face*. for few people that were surprised when they found out that I was brony, I told them that and they just kinda started to look at it differently. although, I'm usually hanging out with people that are familiar with memes, so...
anyway, there's nothing bad for being a brony. if someone laughs at you for being a brony, counter them with something unexpected.

I can't really say I would've done any differently. Who knows, if the opportunity comes up sometime after reading this I might just do it, I might just tell everypony that I love ponies. I can't see me caring what people at school think (yeah 20 or so people in a class at a community college can't really say I'd care) and I might find a new friend but I'd NEVER tell my family.

I have to say that after reading this yeah I'd just come out and say it in your position because I hate wondering "what if?"

I think I would have started singing along, honestly I could care less who knows that I like ponies. I'm pretty sure everybody who knows me realizes the fact that I like this show because I've tried getting them all to watch it on multiple occasions.

As for the question in class, no, I just wouldn't have said it like that. Addicted is a strong word and when you say you're addicted to my little pony to non-bronies, it just sounds absolutely ridiculous, even if they know that you watch the show.

Considering the first time I asked my best friend to watch it said: "Dude, your joking, right?", and everyone thats not my friend would literally bring it up on every occasion to humiliate me, I could never admit it to anyone in my class. It would spread like wildfire, and honestly, the kids in my grade and up are a judging crowd as it is. Its an awesome show, but people won't know unless they watch it, and everyone I know would rather just not and figure what a show like my little pony would be like. =\

I don't know what I would do. Where I live, everyone is extremely judgmental, and most people don't understand the use of the internet past Facebook. I could say that I would admit it, but if it was actually happening, I'm not sure. I couldn't care less about what people think of me, but I also would prefer not to be known as "That Kid who Watches My Little Pony". Plus, FiM is very different from the older MLP shows, and I doubt anyone in my school would know the difference.

    It's the same for me!

I deactivated my facebook account 6 months ago and have never looked back :p
My friends still don't understand why I did it but most of them followed me onto skype afterwards :)

Usually the people who don't know the difference are the first to pipe up and say things. It was awkward to tell my friends about the show at first because the thing that instantly came to mind was an hour long commercial for some toys designed for little girls. Now it's an incredibly entertaining advertising campaign. (Hasbro doesn't make any money off of the show, they literally just use the show as a means to advertise their products and for the first time ever it's actually working.)

I have no problem putting my bronyism out in the open.

I wear pony shirts, try to convert others, crank pony music in my car, my live tag is S0NIC RAINB00M.

I don't care who knows or what they say. If they hate i just tell them I'll love and tolerate them.

I'm a loud and proud brony, although I can empathise with those who aren't.
If you're scared of how people will react, maybe you should tell them in a casual way.

For example, if someone says "any shows you really like?", you could try saying something like "well funnily enough, there's a kids show I like, would you believe!"
That way, you're not seeming out of touch with their concept that it's weird (even though we all know it's not). By showing that you're just as suprised as they are you like ponies, they have a better chance of accepting the fact that you do.

Alternatively, just grab their ears, pull their face towards you, bite their nose off, and claim ponies made you do it. They won't think ponies are for kids anymore.

That's a very good idea Luprony! It'd be a very nonchalant way to just.....wait, WHAT?!?! I was with you until the word "grab". Your ideas should be written down in two different books, Luprony. One for new bronies unsure of what to do and another for ideas that should NEVER, EVER come to fruition.

Haha, what an... interesting read they would provide.

But I was serious about the bit before the cannibalism. One of my friends, who now accepts my bronyism (like it was such a big deal to begin with...) only did so because I explained how skeptical I was of the show to begin with. I explained I was confused at why a God damn little girl's show was being watched by adult males. That way, he realised I was in the exact same boat as him.

I lied, of course, but it got the point across. Heck, you may even convert some people into bronies that way.

"Well, if he hated it to begin with too, and now he loves it, maybe I should give it a chance too..."

Well in such a situation my luck or area's youth would have dug straight into me if they knew it was MLP or not!

So no, I most certainly wouldn't have though 20+ yr olds do tend to be a lot more mature about these things than teenagers... So it's a tough one really. Only you can really decide if you made the right decision. I respect the one you made and would also the other had you declared you like it! :)

Exactly, we're almost in the same situation.
The schools act like a filter. This filter is rather simple.
Everyone, nerds, athletics, and all, are sifted together until the 8th grade.
Around this grade (which I just passed), the majority of smart students who know a lot about the Internet and how it socially ticks strive to go to the governor's school up at the state capitol. They usually succeed.
    Then, there's everyone else.
Nothing but athletics, scenesters, and plain idiots.
"What's a meme?" "What's a troll?" "Dude, he glanced at me shirtless for one second, he must be gay!".
On a lighter note regarding MLP, there is more girls than boys in my area.
This makes me feel a tad safe, however, act the slightest bit interested in anything that is supposedly for girls and automatically get called "gay".
Honestly, my family won't - or should - never know.
For everyone else, I'm still debating whether it's worth hiding amongst schoolmates.
Corey, Tyler, and Ross, my three friends, know.
    My other friend, Isaac, knows.
And, to top off the rumor machine, a girl knows.
What's funny is, the girl was the most respectful.
Isaac demanded I drop it, Ross said it was weird, and Corey was bringing it up at every opportunity to humiliate me.
The girl's just all like "Thats cool:) I respect your feelings".
Which makes me wonder: why are guys such judgemental dipsticks?
