So, I'm quite interested and set on becoming a Brony musician. Kinda want to make electronic music, similar to the living tombstone and other brony dj's. I'm planning on making brony and non-brony music. However, I have no equipment, no real space to set up a studio or something, very little money, and a crap computer that barely connects to the Internet. So my question is; what do I do? What kind of software should I buy? Would I need a new computer? What's the most effective and cost worthy software I could get? Stuff like that. I guess you'll want some information on expectations and what not.

so my computer is a 10.5.8 desktop Mac, and like I said it never connects to the Internet (oddly except for games)
music wise, Im thinking of electronic music, some vocals and lyrics, not much

um for cost, I'd like the cheapest thing possible, price range is pretty low for me so ill take anything

any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated so thank you very much.

The cheapest instrument is creativity. Sure you could buy some second rate music software, but the quality would be nothing like Tombstone's, so I think that a better option might be to do things manually. You could go the route of Stomp and use everyday items to make music, or you could try something like MysteryGuitarMan and use stop motion or something else weird like that. This might not be the most useful comment, but with the limitations on your budget and computer, it might be good to consider.

You start with a DAW and some VSts. Beyond that and some idea of musical structuring, everything else is a bonus. I recommend snagging a nice pair of headphones, like some Audio-Technicas.

I really want to make music as well, but I'm rather limited with the VSts I have, and neither do I have a stellar pair of monitoring headphones, but I can still compose through FL Studio or Ableton. I have everything I need short of desiring a Launchpad for manually doing beats.

Imagine how awesome being this good feels like. o.o

thats a good idea, I've never thought of that. Although, that does require a good audio/video recording thing and editing thing, plus some know-how. Still very unique and deffinately something to consider

A DAW is your main recording software. (Like Pro Tools, FL Studios, Logic and so on)
A VST is basically a third party plug in. They give you new instruments and effects.

Many new musicians go to FL Studio as it's often used by many of the more famous brony musicians (like Glaze and General Mumble), but it does cost money. Ableton is another popular one and I think it's free, so that might be a good place to start.

As for VSTs/plugins, I'd look for some free ones. Sylenth1 is a great free plugin which is very capable of making a number of different sounds.

In the end, it's about experimentation and getting a good mix of knowing what works and making things work for you.

Very few good music producing programs are free and the ones that are free or cheap do not have very good quality.
