So i just bought a new computer, along with a new screen to go with it. The screen is 21:9 (pretty damn big) The problem with that is that regardless of the resolution my computer suggests, it seems pretty stretched out, and i can't adjust the resolution. here's the width of my current screen: http://gyazo.com/586a6b477bb4f48fbafe8cd94accd5a1.png Considering my screen is connected with an HDMI cable, it shouldn't really look that blurry, should it? --- As for the Windows 8 question, how do i add stuff like Skype to my desktop taskbar? Or am i forced to use the Windows 8 menu for that now?
To be honest. That does look streched out at all. I think you might have the same size screen and resolution I have. Mine looks pretty nice. But in my opinion it really doesn't look stretched out at all.
well, stretched might not be the best way to describe it. It looks too blurry for something that's supposed to be connected with an hdmi cable. EDIT: That problem is solved by not using the hdmi cable, it seems. grrreattttttt,ow my wiiiirelesss keyyyyyybbbbboardddd stttttttarts doinnng thhisss.... EDIT 2: and that keyboard problem is solved by using the hdmi cable. EDIT 3: even with the hdmi i seem to be having a rather laggy keyboard. I just connected my old monitor, and so far it all seems to work properly again. I'm probably just gonna screw the new monitor and sell it to someone, but that said, i'm still curious to know what caused this. EDIT 4: Still getting the laggy keyboard problems with my old screen, though much less.
I hate to say it, but that laggy keyboard thing you had was awesome. Anyways, glad your problem is fixed.
But it's not. I still get lag occasionally. Much less than before, but it still gets pretty annoying sometimes. The problem is my new computer doesn't have a port for a wired keyboard.
It shouldn't be. I've done some troubleshooting on my own and there's nothing that indicates a weak signal. My mouse and keyboard are as close to the receiver as they can get atm. The desk my computer is on is made entirely out of metal though. I heard that might cause some disturbances in the signal.
Well, the problem isn't as persistant as it was with my new screen, so i doubt it has anything to do with the keyboard specifically. If it still bothers me tomorrow, i'll just go back to the place where i bought all this crap and ask there.
Ok...a couple questions first. Which method have you tried changing the screen res: Through right clicking desktop then screen resolution, or through your video card/chip control panel? Have you been able to determine your monitor's native/intended resolution? Also, more crucially, is it the entire display that is blurry, or just the fonts? In the end it's possible it might just be a botched HDMI cable -- when it was built it may not have been properly isolated and EMF interference can screw with the digital signal. As for skype, download the desktop version as you normally would. A "Skype for Desktop" icon will appear on the Win8 menu (looks close to this) but it should open up on the desktop as normal. Then you should be able to right click the taskbar icon and pin it to taskbar.
I've only tried through right-clicking, but there were no other resolutions available. That said, the screen really doesn't bother me much anymore since i've decided to just use my old screen (only had one minor issue with it after all), and i've found a potential buyer for the new one. As for how it affects my keyboard, all seems well too. For now at least. Thanks. Works like a charm.
Hmm...if you've only one available resolution this makes me think that the monitor is not using the video card's or CPU's video driver to render the display and is using your motherboard's basic onboard video for some reason. If this is the problem, you're gonna have even more troubles if you ever want to happily play games. Press WinKey + R and the Run window should open. Type mmc devmgmt.msc into the box and press enter. Device Manager should open. Expand the Display Adapters category. Right click and go to properties for each device listed in there if there are more than one. Screencap the stuff in the Driver tab. This will let me check if you have the correct driver version, and I'll see if there is an update where we can move to.
What works best for me is if you go to the desktop area of the window's 8 thing and right click. you should get a list of things and at the bottom should be screen resouloution click that and set it to the recommended setting. If that doesnt work try the other options. Spoiler: picture
