There are lots of them out there but I want the truth out there, also I have spare time...
I am a veteran gamer almost 14 years, I have been playing since I was born! Halo:CE, GTA: San Andreas, Halo 3, CoD: WAW and many more...
From all this time I have been on consoles mostly but they have been outclassed by PC gaming.
Firstly, there is personal preference but you can play with an Xbox controller on a PC?
Secondly, games are limited. Unless you like CoD, Fifa, Forza, Fallout/Elder Scrolls or Minecraft (Halo is dead thanks to 343!) you are stuck and even then you cannot mod them to extend their lives.
There are also other things to conisder: PC gaming is cheaper since for most games a regular work computer will work unless you want DayZ at max settings!, you can customize your machine and games, games are easy to buy, illegally download or borrow on PC, while PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 were good new games are going to be scarce for these, new consoles are terrible (I can explain below!), it's harder to communicate while playing or relaxing, you have to pay to play online and this list could go on for a while!

    Next-Generation-Toasters:
Now first of all these are expensive as hell, costing around £450 or $700!
While some of you may think otherwise the new games are dismal, the new Halo and CoD will be as bad as their previous versions and then games like Fallout 4, Minecraft, Elder Scrolls Online and many other are better on computer (Buggy games need a debug console if the game screws up which is common with Bethesda being the main culprit!). New features restrict usage etc making you spend more!
For example, the Xbox one MUST have the Kinect plugged in or it won't work and the Playstation 4 won't play older games.
Again this list is massive and if you are considering buying one search around a bit!

It isn't all doom and gloom for the consoles! They can easily be played by multiple people at once and can be used when your computer is down. Some games are exclusive but I do mean SOME.

Now there is one thing I have left out and that is the Wii. I don't have a person dislike for Nintendo but their products are outclassed by everything. Smartphones can be play games better than the DS, the Wii is beaten by Kinect, it doesn't have many games unless you want to play Wii Sports for the next decade. The company had their hay-day many years ago but now larger firms are too far ahead...

Now if you want to buy one then consider it first but it's your decision. Another thing is that this is based off facts and there is little opinion here and even then it has legitimate roots.
My last thing is that please do your homework before creating a flamewar or cursing me!

I have looked at the comments, and weighed the pros and cons, and I have come to the decision that I will stay faithful and get an Xbox One. I say this because every system has it's problems, and I'm willing to deal with them if it means that I get to keep playing Halo.

Getting the XBone for Killer Instinct and Dedicated Servers for multiplayer games. The latter is a rumour, but it'd be nice to play my games without lag.

I don't know so much about the "facts" behind there being little in the way of games for the Wii. First off, it has compatibility for the GameCube, which has tons of great games. As for the Wii itself, while my library for it is smaller than my 360 and especially PS3 libraries, it has plenty of good games. Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Kirby, Fire Emblem, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Smash Bros, Sonic Colors, Xenoblade, Last Story...And that's just from the games I own. Also, Kinect beats the Wii? That's laughable. The Kinect wishes it could control anywhere near as well as the Wii, especially Wii Motion Plus. Many Kinect games even play themselves to a disturbing extent. And I don't even like motion controls to begin with. >_>

As for what I'll be getting next gen, Definitely a WiiU and PS4. The XBox One can go die in a fire. They announced the system with all the worst ideas ever and have since been backpedaling with every new announcement until now, when it has little to offer over being an all-in-one entertainment package, which does not appeal to me very much. It doesn't help that I have no interest in XBOX exclusives. All of my favorites are Nintendo and Sony exclusives. And games that aren't exclusive I'll likely get on my PC. Also, your information is outdated. Microsoft recently announced that the Kinect is no longer required for the XBox One, which for me is a major plus because I hate the Kinect. It's not enough to redeem it, though.

I'm definitely heading to the PS4. Their support of Indie developers is pretty cool, and their list of games is quite impressive. Their first party developers are all working on games and the early runners (Killzone Shadow Fall and Infamous Second Son) look pretty fantastic.

Xbox One has nothing of interest for me and the Wii U has no games of note that I haven't played already. Come on, New Super Mario U feels exactly the same as the previous ones and Pikmin 3 doesn't make me want to rush out to buy the console, good as it may be.

Same. I'll wait for the Wii U, but I know I'll get one when the new motherhsip Mario, Metroid, and Zelda games start coming out for it.

As of recent I've been playing on PC since a lot of friends play it and I've found some enjoyable games to keep me hooked (Dota, LoL, TF2, and so on)
As much as I liked playing on consoles before, I think chances of me picking up a PS4 are low, and I never had a 360 so the Xbax is out of the question for me.
Also the WiiU has some interesting games waiting to be released, but that's until then, so the WiiU would have to wait
So yeah, PC gaming, with a slight pick up of the next-gen consoles

Don't say that man. Any gamer should always see and play were the roots of gaming come from. I may not have played during the days of the Atari but I did start with the SNES. There are still many, many games I've yet to play from that console. My most recent is a friend suggestion: Terranigma.

Yami is right. The Wii has it's own library that isn't available on Sony and Microsoft's platforms. So saying that a console doesn't have any games is always a lie.

I don't know what to expect from the 8th generation but once Xbox one and PS4 are out in the market, we will see.
