I'm certain I can't be the only hockey fan around here, and since I'm no longer the only Minnesotan around here I'm we have at least two other hockey fans. So discuss.
Being Minnesotan doesn't mean I automatically like hockey. I think you're mistaking Minnesotans for Canadians, silly.
people at my school think that hockey is only about playing with sticks and fighting, they don't get the point of it...
Well there is a clause buried I. the Minnesota law books saying Minnesota can absorb southeast Ontario, besides, we pretty much act like Canadians
Tell that to Quick and the rest of the team who were the first to break the Gretzky Curse. And a 54 point standing in the Western Conference.
Quick is overrated. Josh Harding beats him in Wins, Goals Against, and Save % (Quick isn't even in the top 30 for save %). Quick has a bunch of highlight reel saves but that's it.
Does Harding have an Olympic Roster Seat? And Kings did alot better then 2 wins last month as well *cough* unlike the preds *cough* Then we have Kopitar, Carter, King, Brown, and of course Spin-o-rama Doughty. Ya know some of the greatest players in the League.
Quick and Howard should have never made that roster, give those spots to Bishop and Schneider; and exactly my point, everyone only thinks Quick is good because his team is good. Look at it this way: Josh Harding for the first part of the season was considered to be the best goalie in the league, and he's still considered to be in the top 5. The Wild is what you would call a 'good' team, we only have Parise, Pominville and Suter, and if you want to, Brodin, Niedereitter, and Granlund, the latter three who are still coming into their own. The Kings roster is stacked and Quick is quite a ways behind Harding in every main goaltender stat. But why is that? The Kings are a powerful roster. It's because their defense drives so many shots outside and keeps them so far away that Quick never had to worry about positioning. Now that teams are finally figuring them out, he doesn't know what to do. Quick is a slightly above average goaltender. Definitely not Team USA caliber. If you ask me, he's not even the best goalie on the team, Scrivens is. Anyways, back to my point. The Wild D is okay, we have Suter, Brodin, Dumba (who's currently away for World Juniors), and Ballard, but nobody extremely noteworthy besides Suter. We play a different style of Defense where we allow the team to drive to the net and get some good shots off. Harding has to work harder because of an average D. Most goalies like getting shot on a lot because it keeps then awake and focused, but if you already don't get a lot of good shots on you like Quick, when you do, it's harder to make the save. Hence the reason why Quick is an overrated goalie.
Not only did Quick and Brown go in the US team, even a Duck, Cam Fowler (Heh, great pun) was in. Not only that but the Kings have had great players throughout it's existence. Luc Robitaille, Rob "Flake", Dave Taylor, Mattais Nordstrom, Kelly Hrudey, and of course the Great One. Also to recap your point, he was the mvp in 2012 not anyone else. Just the fact that the Kings are all around good nowadays is great for us long-time fans (Used to go to Staples Center with at home season passes with my dad)
I wouldn't judge a Goalie on how great his Defensive spots are. Let it be known I'm not a Quick fanboy (My Favorite Goalie of all-time is still Felix Potvin for some reason) I do however know that Kings have gone from being an easy W to a force to be reckoned with. Quick is yet another good player in a great roster. The wild are good as well. What amazes me is how the Blues are putting up a good fight with an injured first shift.
