To those who it concerns, It was ten years... ten long years of war and misery that ended with a boom. Multiple booms, actually. Equestria is in ruins and all of the transport ships to get off this place are gone, never to be seen again. I had heard they were going to someplace called 'Hope'. Good luck to them, I guess. I have been hiding out underground ever since I heard about the missile that hit Canterlot. I'm running out of supplies, so i'm coming out of hiding. Let's what Ponyville looks as a wasteland. Wish me luck. ~Lightning Rush Lightning place the note in plain sight. It was simply a sign for anypony still alive that they weren't alone. She looked around her hidey hole once more before walking to the hatch, unlocking it, and opening it. _______________________________________________________________ Welcome to No Hope In Sight, the story of the ponies who weren't able to get on one of the transport ships to the 'Hope' system. Food and safe water is hard to come by, and the land is littered with bandits, gangs, and mutants. _______________________________________________________________ Now, on to characters. (Than I guess we should start) Lightning poked her head out of the hatch. She expected to be blinded by the sunlight, but sadly, the sky was covered in a giant gray cloud. She climbed out and looked around at what used to be Sweet Apple Acres. The Apples had left long before Lightning set up her hidey hole under their old barn, she still didn't know why they left. The orchard looked relatively untouched by the war. She decided to head towards town.
Silver woke up in his basement, if you could call it that. The rest of his house no longer existed in the sense of being habitable, so really this was more of a dugout now. He shook his head, and suddenly the events that had recently come to pass all came rushing back. The war. The destruction. He was going to need to find a new place to live, or at least adopt a new style of living. His eyes scanned the room. Knicknacks lay strewn about everywhere, most of them now useless. However, he spied a few that still had potential; his carry-around shelter, and his water purifier. Being a tinkerer, he knew there was now an abundance of material on the surface, and however unfortunate the origins, it could still be used. He was sure he would be able to build whatever he needed, within reason. With this meager equipment, he set off to find...something. He didn't quite know what he was looking for, but it certainly wasn't this. Perhaps, if he could meet up with some other ponies, he could figure out how to pick up the pieces of their shattered future...
Lightning had finally reached town to see a wasteland, as predicted. One or two builds were still standing, and there was also a bench left, the rest was piles of building material. A tear went down her face as she looked back on her old, simple, and wonderful life. But that was over now. It was time to find food. She began to head towards one of the remaining buildings.
Silver reached the top of the stairs. Though he didn't want to face it again, he forced himself to survey his surroundings. Rubble of the previously cheery buildings stood crumbling around him. Market stands and apple carts littered the street. You could only tell there was a sun because one part of the perpetually cloudy sky was brighter than the others. Most disturbing of all was the absolute silence. While Silver wasn't a particularly social pony, he realized how much he missed the bustle of everyday life in Ponyville. Attempting to put the dismal state of the town out of his mind, he began to walk in a random direction, figuring that one pile of rubble was as promising an indicator as another. However, his gloomy thoughts were cut short by the sound of...wings? His head whipped toward the sign of life, and sure enough, there was a blueish pegasus flying above the wreckage. "Hey. Uh, HEY!" shouted Silver, attempting to draw her attention. It wasn't particularly necessary, as he was probably the only living thing for miles, so it wasn't that hard to hear him, but he was mostly shouting from relief. So I'm not the only one left, he thought.
Lightning's ears perked up as she heard a voice. She turned towards where she heard the noise, "Who's there?!" She yelled out.
Silver waved toward the pegasus. "Over here!" he shouted. He didn't recognize her, but in this landscape, any face was a friendly face. As she flew down to meet him, he introduced himself; his Canterlot origins still dictated his manners at least partially, to his ire. "I'm Silver Shield. And you are?"
"My name's Lightning Rush," She said, feeling skeptical of the pony she just met, "What do you want?"
Hearing some yelling over yonder, Kleft ducked under a nearby tree (or what was left of it). 'NO!' he thought. 'There are MORE of that trash! I thought I ran them out weeks ago! Why do they keep coming back!' He used a cloaking spell on himself to hide his body and muffle his footsteps. He noticed that his scent remained. Kleft sighed. He never could get that one right. Using his new invisibility, he crept over the ridge and saw two ponies having a seemingly normal chat with each other. "They must be sentries..." he muttered. "This should be easy, two idiots who don't realize there's a war on..." He sat atop the landing and decided to simply watch the ponies for a bit and see what they did.
"Oh, er, well, uh..." He hadn't really thought that through. "I guess I was just surprised to see somepony else...alive?" He was a little miffed at her bluntness, but he forged on: "So, I don't suppose you know of anywhere that doesn't look...uh...like this? I guess it's a wild hope, after what happened, but I suppose it can't hurt to ask, right?" He mentally slapped himself; this was even more idiotic than his usual dialogue. He supposed spending this long without talking to anypony did that to you... Without really waiting for a reply, he said, "Well, I guess I'll be moving on then..." He began to walk away at a more rapid pace than usual, eager to escape before he humiliated himself any longer.
Lightning sighed, "Hold up, pal," She said catching up to him, "do you need anything? you seem a little stressed."
