So there are some things about Octavia or "cello pony" are driving me crazy. First I disagree on her fan name "cello pony" because it appears she plays the upright bass. I have come to this conclusion do to the size of her instrument, playing style and lack of extended end pin ( cello pins are normally extended quite a bit) The second nit that I MUST pick is her cutie mark is a treble clef while both cello and bass are bass clef instruments. You can play multiple instruments no (about the Treble clef thing)? Also instead of just going by the image, take a listen to the Pony Pokey - while she appears to be playing a bass, there is no upright bass part to the song, all bass is handled by the tubaist - instead you can clearly hear a cello part, to be handled by her. hmmm it dose sound like a cello in the Pony Pokey but theoretically a musician of Octavia's talent could hit that range (le link http://youtu.be/YSCmQ9kjqos ) and yes I play more then one instrument ( in school i'v been playing bass since 5th grade and I have my own ) But to sum it up I'd agree with you in the pony pokey it is probably a cello. i'm that kind of person that can't rest until every nit has been picked
I've seen her interpreted as Pinkie's and Lyra's sister, with Pinkie obviously being the most likely more credible one. Honestly I don't think they really thought to made that connection when animating (like how they didn't think to maker her appear to play a cello if that's the part in the song), but for speculation purposes that'd make more sense for her to be Pinkie's sister - I don't think the band would just let anyone give them a piece to play, them being sisters could've been the mistake for them to think she'd be a relatively safe choice for requests. Also note that talent seems to run through families (look at the Apples), note that especially in the Swarm of the Century episode Pinkie showed an uncanny ability to play many different instruments (at once), also note that she's constantly breaking out into song - if talent runs through the family it wouldn't be so surprising to see another who specializes in music - also note that if Octavia is talented in music in general (hence the treble clef mark and not like a cello/bass/whatever) that'd help explain how Pinkie would easily find so many instruments some of which are quite elusive (and expensive).
She might have told her before not to say anything to her while she's performing, I doubt that's the first time something like that's happened if they're related
How could she have not recognized it was her own sister. I'm sure Pinky still keeps in touch with her family. If she didn't want to be bothered while playing... Why did Pinky grab her hoof and start playing the instrument? But I'm just messing around here. :derpe: She could be her sister. I'm sure if the producers wanted to. They would.
Now that's something odd to be canon. I like how it can be proved that Octavia is Pinkie's sister, like the musical talent and such. However, I don't think they're related in any way. If Pinkie and Octavia were sisters, then why she didn't jump and say "hi" the moment they saw each other? And wouldn't Octavia recognize her sister as well, even after years? By the little evidence I saw, their talent with music is merely much coincidence. Also, in their little interaction, they acted like they were strangers to each other. Not to mention, even if Octavia didn't want Pinkie to notice her, she would at least be pretty nervous - let's remember this is a show with highly expressive faces and gestures (i.e. they cannot "lie"). Another point: By the fact that she earned her cutie mark first (which means, coming of age before all), lack of selfishness and concern over her family (and friends), I believe Pinkie's the eldest child, so she has two younger sisters, though they're tree twins, I guess.
Also also also... I saw a pic of them both being next to each other (filly Octavia and grown-up Octavia) and their eyes weren't the same color... Grown-up Octavias are lighter.
Well note this is all just speculation, I doubt the show thought it through that well. But note that if she's Pinkie's sister, this probably happens quite frequently, the best way to avoid another intrusion would probably be to completely ignore her.
But if Octavia WAS her sister... Then she'd know what happens when Pinky's ignored... And it would probably be best to not have that happen.
Actually, she was being her normal self. However, indeed, Octavia's eye color is not the same as Inky's. Not to mention her mane is actually black, while Inky's is grey - dark, but still grey. Also, Octavia's fur is a different, warmer shade of grey.
