Hello, and welcome to Everypony. As far as telling people, I'd suggest just casually mentioning MLP the next time you're talking about television. Don't make a big deal out of it, and odds are that nobody else will, either. Of course, if anyone is shallow enough to start hating you over a cartoon, they probably weren't worth your time in the first place.
