Stanburdman one of my favourite subscriptions did a podcast where he was quite negative about the show, but this may be forgiven since he was completely ignorant and his reactions to what a brony was saying on his show were understandable. I was hoping you guys could help him understand how many gorwn men love this show. I spoke my objections as such. "brony for life here and also longtime stan subscriber, just sayin' I have to say after listening to more when Grant was talking about My Little Pony, your reactions and constant laughing made me lose faith in your maturity Stan. Also why did you put generation 1 pony pictures up on the video. Most Fans of MLPFiM or G4. Hate the old show because it is as bad as ignorant people like you expect the new show to be. Any Love and Tolerance and I would ask that you watch a few episodes before you make assumptions about it. Also I am a 24 year old straight Male." I sorry, I tried to listen to that video, but I couldn't it was unbearable. I'll post a comment on his video, but man I am not a fan of this guy at all.
^ My thoughts exactly. Yes, this guy's opinion is ignorant, but that doesn't necessarily give us license to "force" him to change his opinion. Besides, his view on the name "Pinkie Pie" was kinda disturbing. Okay, Pinkie, it's time to make cupcakes. No, it's okay, you're allowed to use your hacksaw this time. I don't know why they call it a hacksaw! We went over this last time! I feel so bad for the brony in this video. They're not even really giving him the proper opportunity to explain it, but other than that, they're entitled to their opinion. If they don't like the show, it's no big loss. Not everyone likes MLP:FiM, and I don't want us to make it seem like we're conveying some holier-than-thou attitude when it comes to haters. "You hate MLP! You must be ignorant and immature!" <- I'm not okay with conveying this message. In the comments section, all I saw was this from you: ^ This is fine, but you said you sent him a more elaborate message: If you really want to convince him to watch the show, I'd avoid using words like "ignorant" and attacking their maturity. Haters have feelings too, and I don't think they'll feel compelled to give the show a chance if you attack them for not liking it. I've never even listened to this podcast, and I don't even have a YouTube account right now, but even if I did, I'd leave them alone. Haters gonna hate. However, if I were to actually try to convince him, I'd show him some respect. Kill him with kindness, if you will. The respect may be one-sided, but at least you're going to be the bigger man and take the higher road. I'd say something along the lines of: Now, I don't expect anyone to use this verbatim, but you get the idea. Be nice to them, and let them know that despite their incorrect assumptions about the show, you're still willing to show them some respect. We need to love and tolerate them, not berate them. I'm well aware that someone could reply to a message of this style and just say, "STFU, pony*squee!*," but, hey, at least you would be the better person. As I said, it'd be no big loss if they don't like it. For every fandom there is a hatedom, and just as we are allowed to like MLP:FiM, haters are allowed to dislike it. As long as we don't bother each other with it. I truly admire your zeal for MLP:FiM, but let us not forget that haters also have feelings and we should respect that.
Sigh, I really didn't handle that well, I was a bit insulting to him. Both of your comments were a lot better and may have convinced him to be more open minded. However I did recently listen to his second podcast and hearing him give his opinion on serious issues, really made me lose respect for his intelligence. He is a great comedian on the cuff especially and he is good at ranting about what sucks in video games. But this guy really does seem like the close minded ignorant type. So I won't bother to convince him and I'm not going to listen to anymore of his podcasts, his comedy reviews and let's plays though are still worth staying around for.
Well you can't convert everyone. At least you tried to show him the other side. It's up to him to realize you shouldn't judge thinks by how they look.
