I want you all to consider that less then 80 years ago the stereotype of blue for boys and pink for girl was actually the other way around for many countries. I now hope theat MLP FiM can help to break this stereotype and the bashing up of ponies who simply display their love of Rainbow dash which due to stereotypes, rainbows are also associated with gayness. http://www.colormatters.com/kids/wear.html Rainbows, Pink, Bright Yellow, Sky Blue, Violet, Purple. Who says the female gender owns these nice colours. Let's all show our pride that no colour should be biased towards a particular gender. I will wear Pink and Bright yellow with my newest Fluttershy shirt. What will you do to fight stupid colour gender bias? It's WAR!!!!!!!!! PINK VS BLUE
Erm, I like both? 0.0 So far I've always been a bit shy in wearing pink. But who knows, maybe I'll buy a pink t-shirt one of these days.
well, as lately I see, not only in Croatia but in whole europe it's become normal for guys to wear pink. I have couple of bright yellow and sky blue shirts and wear them with no problem. also I would wear shirt that contains pink, or if it's pink, but looking cool (like I saw one pink-blue t-shirt from PIG skateboards I will likely buy that looks really great). I usually don't like to wear things that are too girly (so plain pink shirt or something that's mostly pink would probably be a no, (although exceptions are possible by design) but I've seen good not girly male pink stuff. I usually like to wear bright colors and ususlly avoid wearing black. Also this: this is 2009 Bataleon Fun Kink; one of best MALE freestyle snowboards ever made. and it's pink. Even if I usually tend to wear "cool" clothes, if I see/have cool pink shirt, I would wear it (like that PIG skateboards pink-blur t-shirt). also on that snowboarding has bit influence. as you maybe could notice, if you look at snowboard outware, you'll see that most of better equipment (jackets and pants) are brighter colors, because for some reasons snowboarders (including me) like to wear colorful clothes with intense or bright colors. as you can see ^. I'm sure I can find more pink male snowboards. In professional freestyle snowboards, I would have hard time finding black snowboard actually, they are also mostly very colorful.
My favorite color is cobalt so I'm gonna have to go with blue on this one. Not that I dislike pink; it's just it's against my favorite color's main influence.
Pink: The manlier color, or the manliest color? Heh. I'll admit it. I'm not man enough to wear pink. There, I said it. Actually, the real reason I don't wear pink is because it just simply isn't my color. I can't even think of an occasion where I've worn pink. So, if I ever have, it must be a rarity. Come to think of it, I wore blue yesterday. Not an overly dark blue or light blue. According to Wikipedia, the closest color I could find was "steel blue." I typically wear darker colors (black, the grays, dark green, dark blue, etc.). I do own a yellow, light blue and purple shirt, but I don't wear them often. I never receive any comments when I do. I never even knew that bright yellow and sky blue were considered girly colors. That's news to me. Sky blue? Really? That's the freakin' atmosphere. That's where the bad-ass thunderstorms reside (of course the sky isn't blue then, now is it?). I think I may have heard about purple being girly before, but never personally. Besides, I don't care what colors people wear and certainly don't care what they think of the colors I choose. I think the brightest color I typically wear is red. Random fact: Another color I don't like to wear is white, for the same reason as I don't wear pink. It just isn't my color. I've seen guys wear pink before. Some can really pull it off pretty well. I don't think I can, and that's why I choose not to wear it. As an immature kid, I used to make stupid jokes, but as an adult I know better. Sorry if I'm not contributing to the cause.
Pff, you'd never catch me wearing pink. I'd fear for my sanity if I wore it. The blue I tend to use in chat, however, is awesome, and I'll probably stick with it for the rest of my living days.
Blue is my favourite colour, although that has nothing to do with the question. Just, randomly saying. I can only speak on behalf of where I'm from, but here, even the dumb masculine meatheads wear pink. Nobody really cares. It might be because fashion is pretty important here, but that's because there is still a deep history of football hooliganism in South Wales, and things like designer labels are a big part of that (for some reason. I don't care enough to question it). In the end, they're just colours. Wearing a pink shirt with flowers and stuff could be seen as feminine I guess, but just wearing a pink shirt, no. Judging someone because of what colour their clothes are? I'm not even going to start. I'm colourblind anyway, so me and colours aren't the closest of friends. Screw you, purple. Screw you.
In America, or at least here in Red-neck Reno, there does seem to be a strong pink = sissy girly girl color, or you're gay, but I think pink is a nice, mellow color. Blue does have a calming influence, but sometimes it makes me think of the sea, which reminds me of San Francisco, which saddens me that I'm not there, so, I avoid both colors and wear lots of black. Besides, pink gets dirty easy, and I tend to be a very messy guy. And now that I think of it, I don't think I've seen anything pink for guys in the stores around here. Maybe in one of the more expensive stores I never go into. I'll have to take a look next time I'm in the market to buy a regular shirt. Next shirt's going to be a pony shirt - hey! I could buy a Fluttershy shirt! I wonder what they'll think of that? Ooo! 300th post! I'm amazed!
Thanks for you responses, I personally don't have any particular reason to want to wear pink other then out of protest of gender bias and homophobia. My favourite colour to wear is actually black. This is because I am shy and I like to pass by as unnoticed as possible in public. Black is the colour that helps hide me in a crowd. One of the reasons I decided to start this topic and to rage about colour gender bias in general is that a manly muscular serbian guy in my class told me a story about how he came to Australia not realising that it was gay to wear pink and because he came to the country wearing pink he was ridiculed and called a *squee!*got. This kind of behaviour disgusts me and when I found out from one of my lecturers that the gender bias of pink and blue is the other way around in so many countries. It made me realise that it is all determined by what society decides is cool or manly or feminine. @Dwynter I have a Fluttershy shirt now, it's is mostly pale yellow, like fluttershy and has Fluttershy and her pink hair printed on the front. I will be wearing it in public on monday. It will probably make people assume I am gay, but at least in my class there is an openly gay guy that is treated no different from anyone else, so I should be okay I think.
Ah! That's right! Fluttershy = yellow. I mean Pinkie Pie, of course. *mutters "must be going color blind in my old age" under his breath*
well, I guess that video "Can't tell if gay or European" wasn't made for no reason. anywhere I went in europe, or (since Croatia is tourist country) there are tourist from whole europe (and rest of world) and it's normal to see guy wearing pink t-shirts. not girly with flowers and stuff, but with idk, logo of some company or something that you'll find on any other man t-shirt. It's actually quite silly that things are so different in Usa/Australia and europe.
My dad has a few pink dress shirts. His job requires suit and tie and he wears at least one of those shirts on a weekly basis
Now you see for me it depends on the kind of pink Now the Fluttershy's hair's pink seems like a rather gentle pink and isn't really the kind of pink I would be caught wearing excessively. Like a whole shirt or a coat. Now foxy's name's shade of pink is completely different and strikes me as a more manly pink which could be worn by men and I wouldn't feel to bad about wearing. Pink is a rather general term isn't is really?
I consider myself a girly girl and my favourite colour is pink, so I guess I'm not really breaking any stereotypes here D: But I will say that colours being stereotypically connected to gender/sexual orientation/masculinity or femininity is just silly, and is an old social condition that should go~ let every colour of the rainbow, or even the whole rainbow be open to all, regardless of who they are on the outside and inside! ^-^
My favorite color is purple. Where I live pink is worn by the "cool crowd", cause you know it makes you cool. I don't really care what color people wear or what their favorite color is. At work I've been trying constantly to change peoples opinions on the rainbow, showing them it's doesn't have to be associated with being gay. I love rainbows, I think they're the coolest thing. I'm glad others knew about blue being a girls color and pink being a boys.
I have two shirts that have pink on them. Well, only one has a fair amount of pink on it: A Pinkie Pie shirt a bought over the internet a while ago. The other one, a tuxedo T-shirt, has a bit of pink on it. The flower image on it is the pink that's on it I don't think I could ever have enough courage to wear a shirt that is all pink, though. Most of the shirts I do own are black, because they're all shirts with metal bands on them.
My favorite color is already blue, so I'm just a bit biased. Ironically, I mostly have darker blues in my wardrobe. I think the lightest blue of anything I have would be my jeans. The majority of my shirts are black, though. Why are all the awesome designs and funny phrases used on black so much?
