It's obvious this topic will have already been covered, but their are a lot of new members I would be interested in hearing the stories of. I think my story is fairly unique. Because I'm Lazy I will just quote it from my blog. My Ponification First I'll tell you little about myself I am a 24 year old male that is currently at school studying Film and Television as a career. Specifically I'm aiming to become either a professional video editor or movie director. My interests include listening to music nopony else listens to and making music videos for them, Watching TV shows and spending time socializing mostly online, because I am a clutz at doing it in real life. Of course as of recently I become a brony, which is unexpected as I have always normally avoided kids cartoons with disgust. First Encounter So I am going to start with my Ponification story. It all began a long long 3 months ago when I was browsing my favourite forum on Thatguywiththeglasses.com (TGWTG) and I became confused when all of a sudden nearly everyone on the forums had brightly colored ponies as their avatars and in their signatures. I had no idea what was going on. I just assumed it was some sort of joke or some sort of trend of having a very strange theme. Anyway I didn't think much about it. But I did find a thread of a user name Phil Buni http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=30757&hilit=pony+ponies It was about him offering his artistry to ponify forum members and he included a video that finally made me understand these were from an actual cartoon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwIphm5wVAs As you can see I didn't learn much from it. So this was how I first heard about it. Cupcakes You may find it hilarious that I read the famous Cupcakes fanfic before I ever watched My Little Pony How the hell? Well that's were the next part of the story takes us. While browsing Youtube I looked in my subscription box and found a new video from a user named Headbanger142 I was subscribed to him despite rarely watching his videos, he made a few videos about idiots on youtube and I found these hilarious so I subscribed. I found out that he mostly only did reviews of kids shows, which I wasn't interested in. But I didn't unsubscribe because he was one of the underdogs from TGWTG that I was supporting just for the hell of supporting, besides he gave me a subscription in return, it would have made me look like a jerk if I unsubscribed. Anyway he uploaded a video titled something like I read My Little Pony fanfic Cupcakes. I can't link it or get the name right cause I can't find it anymore on his channel. Anyway I was intrigued but only because I was a big fan of the featured talent Bennet the Sage on TGWTG who read fanfic to the camera and they were always something hilariously badly written or disgustingly vulgar. I assumed this was the same kind of reading, so I watched it. He started of by talking a little bit about the show and how he was a fan of it and identified himself as a brony. I was interested to learn that apparently a lot of people were fans of the show because it finally explained why I was seeing so many ponies everywhere, the video taught me a lot I was ignorant about. He went on and read the fic introducing me for the first time to Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash. As I expected it was a entertainingly horrible story, but believe me Bennet the Sage has read worse ones to me. Anyway my curiosity about the show heightened slightly but I still didn't want to check it out as I figured, well this guy likes kids shows, I don't. Plus come on it looks like as much a girls shows as barbie. It would take one more event before the catalyst that finally made me watch the show. The PMV Wow, now that I think about it my memory here is a little fuzzy. Let me just check something. Nopey Dopey! I taught I could use my history to figure out how I came across the PMV. But the best I can come up with is that I was browsing youtube and saw a video in the sidebar that said Rainbow Dash x Pinkie Pie: All The Things She Said. As far as I can tell my reason for clicking on it must have gone something like, oooo a All The Things She Said music video, I haven't heard that song in ages I love it. Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, they were the ones in that fanfic Headbanger read, I wonder what they look like, I'll probably understand more about this strange My Little Pony thing too. So I watched the video and it was awesome and the music video made the show look very epic and action packed and the animation just looked so cute and appealing. So after stewing over this video in my head and finding myself bored the next day, I decided what the heck just one episode. Episode 1 While watching the first episode I felt uneasy about what I was doing I had some booze to null the pain I was expecting. The intro came on and I was like 'Oh god, this is the girliest thing I've ever seen, wtf'. The intro left a bitter taste in my mouth worse then that of the booze. Then the episode started and I began to relax as it wasn't that bad. The characters didn't overact and talk babyish and the show seemed to act more mature then Pokemon that I had recently watch more for childhood nostalgia and relatively enjoyed. In fact other then the colours there were almost no references to girly things. Then there was the comedy, I found myself laughing every few minutes, they weren't particularly cheesy either, some were, others were quite clever. Then To Be Continued... popped up. I found myself opening the next episode, I wasn't completely disgusted at this show it was bearable enough for me to actually want to see how it concluded. I was bored anyway. Episode 2 The jokes got even better I began to relate to and enjoy the characters, PinkiePie started singing and it didn't completely suck, like you would expect from kids show's songs. The episode didn't finish on a cliffhanger. Yet Still I'm loading up another episode, what is wrong with me? Episode 3 What a interesting plot, the humour is still working the characters are becoming even more likeable, I particularly enjoy Fluttershy and TwilightSparkle, why do I know all their names? Uh oh! Why am I typing episode 4, stop fingers stop! Episode 4 Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! (20 minutes later) Oh my god that was so funny, Why do I love AppleJack so much!? MUST PUT ON NEXT EPISODE! Officially Brony It was after 4 episodes nothing could stop me from watching the remaining 22 except major hunger and I suffered insomnia that didn't go away until long after I finished watching all the episodes. Then I did research into just how big My Little Pony was, I found polls that gave a 70% 18+ male demographic. I read up on how the shows popularity started as 4chan attempting to mock the show and ended up accidently liking it. I kept reading about the whole history of the phenomenon. I learned all the pony internet lingo, and then I found communities of fellow bronies that loved the show as well and enjoyed hanging out with people like them as it still wasn't that accepted in public to like MLP and that was it, I was a goner, I was a BRONY. and FlutterShy is the best pony Praise Her!
most of that is the same as mine i was : day 1. saw my little pony used for a starcraft 2 vid (ponycraft 2) watched some epsodes, thought they were better then th rubbish on tv nowadays.looked to see i other guys like it ,found out about bronys, and for the next two days i searched for this site, and i presume i wasnt a brony untill i joined this site, correct me if im wrong
Well, it all started out a couple of months ago and on a completely different forum. Suddenly they were there. They were everywhere. Even many of the forum's members turned into them: ponies. Yes, it was weird, but at the same time, there was something cool about them. I actually wrote something about all that mess before I decided to take a closer look at what it was all about. I first took a look at the fandom, how fast it was growing, and how creative everypony was, and then I felt I had to actually watch the show eventually. So a few weeks ago, when I had enough time, I sat down and searched YouTube for the episodes. And there they were. Not split up into two or three parts, but in one piece. Of course, I started with the first episode. Okayyyy... it did feel a bit strange at first to watch a show targeted at girls more than 25 years younger than me, and yes, I was asking myself why I'm watching this like so many bronies did before me, but... there was something about it that caught my attention. The animation (I usually dislike Flash animation because it's usually as cheap as possible, but this was quality). The setting. The characters. Everything. And it didn't seem like a girly girl show at all. Well, a bit, but that wasn't all over it. Well, half the pilot is only half the pilot, so I continued with the second half in a different tab. The whole mane cast got their chances to shine. Well... ...to cut a long story short, at the end of the day, I had watched the first five episodes, downloaded them, and I was preparing downloads for at least another half-dozen to be able to watch them without YouTube. In fact, I watched most of them on my TV with my laptop (indirectly) attached to it. Five days later, I had watched all 26 episodes and began to look for other stuff. PMVs, Equestria Girls... That was it. I was a brony. No way out. Next decision was to join a forum or two to talk to other bronies. I deliberately stayed away from the Equestria forums, I didn't feel like so much of a brony that I had to get lost on the biggest and most important brony forum in between all the living legends of Bronydom since I had exactly nothing to contribute in the sense of creativity, I believed that I'd end up looking up to half of the forum or something. So I came here. Another week or two later, my collection of fan art began to grow...
My story? Well, nothing really special. I saw a thread on a website called "The hive workshop" (a forum) called "My little pony - Friendship is magic". I got curious, as to how could someone discuss such a thing like My little pony. I clicked it, i read it wasn't that bad, and i just gave it a shot. I watched #3 as my pilot episode, and then the next day just continued watching the series. I especially got in love with the story at the point of #9 episode. Oh, and I actually had some MLP pictures BEFORE i became a brony, around december last year. I was looking for their name, but i never found out. Well, the hive answered it.
