So I hadn't seen a thread about this anywhere here, but tell me if there already is. Anyway I thought I'd post this for anyone that has or would like to style their toy pony's hair, so people can share any tips or good tutorials they've found and post pictures of their results. So anyway I have several pony toys and I've been styling their hair recently and I thought I'd share how I did them and any guides I used to help me. 1 This guide which was mentioned on EQD is pretty good. 2 Also for Rarity I found this one useful. (They actually use the big fashion Rarity in this one, but it still kind of worked for my little Raritys) 3 For Pinkie Pie I actually preferred this guide to the first one. I also strongly recommend using a toothbrush as a brush as it says in this guide, it's far more effective than the little combs that come with the toys. 4 I also came across this one but didn't really use it much, except for the instruction to use conditioner (although I'm not sure there really is any benefit to doing so, but I thought I'd do it anyway seeing as it couldn't really do any harm.) And here are some pictures of my results Twilight (I used the first guide for her) Applejack 1 (first guide) Applejack 2 (Also used the first guide, but I made her tail curl outward with the same method as used for Twilight, this time) Fluttershy Fluttershy (I used the first guide for Fluttershy) Rainbow Dash Rainbow Dash (Also used the first guide for RD) Shine Bright Rainbow Dash Shine Bright Rainbow Dash (First guide again) Rarity 1 Rarity 1 (I used the Rarity guide) Rarity 2 (Also used the Rarity guide) Pinkie Pie Pinkie Pie (Used the Pinkie Pie guide) Shine Bright Pinkie Pie Shine Bright Pinkie Pie (Pinkie Pie guide as well) I've also improvised on my Cheerilee, Applebloom and Sweetie Belle, since I didn't have guides for them: Cheerilee I pretty much just followed the guide for Twilight, but cut the ends of the mane and bangs in a curve rather than straight. Applebloom Applebloom Again I basically followed the same guide as Twilight, but just cut the ends in a curve. Sweetie Belle Sweetie Belle Sweetie Belle Okay so this one I improvised completely without a guide, but I have some pictures of her 'in progress' for anyone who's interested and I'll try and explain what I did as best I can. One For the bangs I separated the front bit of her mane and cut it shorter (not too short though, since it's going to be curled) Then split it into two and curled the two sections using drinking straws. I also secured them in the position in the picture to angle them forward, if that makes sense. Two Three I then separated the rest of her mane into two sections and curled with drinking straws as in the pictures Four Five Finally I curled some of her tail using a drinking straw again and secured it as in the picture so that the tail would fall with a nice curve to it. Okay that's about it for now, I do also have a shine bright Rarity but I'm not going to do her hair since it looks okay how it is and I don't think it would be a good idea letting water go near her horn, and I will do my fashion ponys twilight and fluttershy at some point but haven't got around to them yet.
Cool, now if only someone made a Derpy Guide for my custom Derpy. ..and my Vinyl Scratch was styled perfectly by the person who commissioned it for me.. :derpe: These guides do help although I don't plan on re-styling any of them, besides Fluttershy because it seems the easiest imo. Now I just need the mane 6 to collect... Anyways, if you haven't seen my Vinyl Scratch and Derpy here they are. (Putting them in Links, because they are big as they are.) Link 1 Link 2 Link 3 Link 4 Link 5 If you want to know who commissioned them here is her deviantart. Gryphyn Bloodheart she commissions customs from $30+ I do have to trim Vinyl Scratch's extra bit though later on.
At first, I thought this thread was for styling your hair. Kind of neat for those that want their dolls/figurines looking perfect. I know I would if I had some.
Cool, I love your custom ponies. The Vinyl Scratch is awesome I'd say maybe use a Rainbow Dash guide on Derpy, since they have a similar style, if you want to do her hair.
I'm to lazy to style my brushables manes and tails. They shall all remain long haired like me. Good job though, they look really good.
Interesting guide, though I thought this was the purpose of the Hasbro toys having whacky out-of-the-box hair. Isn't coming pony hair mostly what girls love doing with the ponies anyway?
Nice, for me I just let my sisters "borrow" them, and got them styled... But I'll be sure to use those links next time I need to XD
I do believe that RainbowPie is a female in the first place. Secondly, some people, other than females, like to style MLP:FiM related things. Lastly, I myself do not have pony-merch besides a few shirts. So I cannot speak for it's entertainment. But I believe I can speak for others when I say it's possible it could be entertaining. Besides, you've got to understand that some people prefer perfection, rather than unorthodox/wacky. Not to mention if you're a collector of items, you must keep them in tip top shape. So there you have it.
Job well done there, par'ner! *takes off Engie mask* But really, stylin ponies be stylin. Now I wait for someone to style their own hair like Fluttershy.
