I started wondering what marriage rituals, if any, are used in Equestria. The only examples of canon weddings or proposals are Rarity's fantasy of Prince Blueblood, and A Canterlot Wedding. But those were of unicorns and royalty...I suppose the curiosity here is, what are circumstances with Pegasi and earth pony citizens? Lets try to headcanon on this....but I got nothing.
As far as the ceremonies go, it seems to me that the park in Ponyville has everything a pony could need for a wedding.
I agree with Ridley, Ponyville park seems like nice place for proposal or wedding. As for ring itself, I think it would be either really big (like Zecora's rings around her hoof) or merely symbolic (as in, they wouldn't ware it, just give it one to another). As far as wedding itself, well, I suppose if it's not royal (like Cadence and Shining Armor's one), then small, regular ceremony, much like how humans have. Just not in church, but more in some park, or some romantic place or landmark.
Me, I think that in the world of pegasai they would more propose with more "meaningful" gifts rather than symbolic gifts. Same goes for the earth ponies. i think that the only reason the unicorns really propose with rings is because of the simple fact that gems are abundant, and they can invest time/money into finding the "perfect one" for their special somepony. That's just me though.
I think they just need to give their special somepony an amulet of mare-a. Then they meet in Riften and a ceremony is had the next day.
