I was thinking of creating a pen and paper RPG with Equestria as its setting, I would base in on a D100 system such as Dark Hersey as I am more familiar with that than D&D. Here are some early ideas.

    Races
Earth pony, Pegasus, unicorn, alicorn, zebra, buffalo

    Classes
Wizard(Twilight) , warlock(Trixie), animal handler(Fluttershy), enchantress(Zecora), warrior, barbarian, aristocrat(Rarity), bard (Pinkie Pie), cleric(ponies granted power by Celestia), royal guard(paladin), farmer(Applejack, pony version of ranger)

    Unicorn:
    Wizard, warlock, bard, warrior, aristocrat
    Stats: 2D10+
    Strength: 10
    Dexterity: 20
    Constitution: 15
    Intelligence: 30
    Wisdom: 25
    Charisma: 20
    Racial skill: lesser magic, telekinesis,

    Pegasus:
Royal guard, barbarian, animal handler, warrior, aristocrat
    Stats: 2D10+
    Strength: 20
    Dexterity: 25
    Constitution: 20
    Intelligence: 20
    Wisdom: 15
    Charisma: 20
    Racial skill: flying, control weather,

    Earth pony:
Farmer, bard, animal handler, warrior, cleric
    Stats: 2D10+
    Strength: 30
    Dexterity: 20
    Constitution: 30
    Intelligence: 15
    Wisdom: 15
    Charisma: 25
    Racial skill: none

    Alicorn:
    Wizard, warlock, Royal guard, aristocrat
    Stats: 2D10+
    Strength: 10
    Dexterity: 15
    Constitution: 15
    Intelligence: 25
    Wisdom: 20
    Charisma: 25
Racial skill: lesser magic, telekinesis, flying, control weather

    Zebra:
Warrior, enchantress, farmer, animal handler, bard
    Stats: 2D10+
    Strength: 20
    Dexterity: 20
    Constitution: 20
    Intelligence: 20
    Wisdom: 25
    Charisma: 25
    Racial skill: lesser voodoo,

    Buffalo:
farmer, barbarian, animal handler, warrior, enchantress
    Stats: 2D10+
    Strength: 25
    Dexterity: 30
    Constitution: 30
    Intelligence: 15
    Wisdom: 20
    Charisma: 15
    Racial skill: none

Some races gets more base stats for having no racial skill.

I've brought this up before and I'm sure others have as well. Though pen and paper RPG's aren't as big as they used to be there are still plenty of people that I think would be interested. I'd certainly carry it in my store, (I'm a game store owner). I'm not familier with the d100 system though. I actualy haven't done much RPG gaming in the past 15 years as it is so hard to get people to do it. Seems like most people around here are only interested in making characters and never actually want to play. Anyway an argument was made that an MLP RPG would be way too Niche to attract an audience. I think that is a valid point but I know that there is an RPG called Dresdian files (not sure how it is spelled) that does very well based on a TV show that I have never even seen. I think that if an RPG like that can do well then MLP RPG could do quite well. Especially since there are many RPG's like the Dresdian files one but nothing at all like an MLP RPG. Also I think that the variety of different kinds of ponys and abilities would work great in Roleplaying. I also think that it would be cool because combat wouldn't be the biggest thing but would still be a part of it. Also the adventuring party really fits into the pony theme with each pony having their special skills and working as a team. I certainly would be willing to help out with this. I have some experience in RPG system writting from AD&D 2nd ed days and have partially worked out two of my own unique systems. I also have customers that I think would be happy to test and would certainly sell the games here.

Two days late, but one thing worth noting is that the Dresden Files RPG isn't based around just the TV series-it appeals to fans of the book series(which is infinitely better anyways). Dresden Files itself actually has a fairly large fanbase, and I think it's one of today's most read book series. Part of the idea also is that, yeah, Dresden Files is niche, but they knew that going in. While the fanbase is large enough to make it more profitable, my understanding was it was done because the people at Evil Hat Producitons and Jim Butcher wanted it done since the former is a big fan of Dresden and the latter is a big fan of RPG's in general-in short, they did it more or lessfor fun and becuase they wanted to. I don't have figures on how it's doing or even a general sense of it, but I have heard a lot of people from the White Wolf-World of Darkness fanbase have at least looked into it, which I think may be part of the appeal. People who are already playing stuff similar may deeply enjoy being able to play in the Dresden sandbox, since many fans of modern day supernatual darky dark stuff are fans of the series as well.

Now, let me make a small note on something: I want to go make a big project that people will read/watch/use and enjoy. I don't think the demand for a FiM RPG is large enough to really hit as many people I would like.

But that's not an argument against making it for fun. If you would have fun working on something like that, go for it. I just don't think you'll get a lot of hits on it.

Well, to put into perspective where Dresdan files RPG ranks compaired to other RPG's. I use the world wide authority on table top gaming... Boardgamgeek/RPGgeek. The highest rated RPG in the World is Call of Cthulhu with an 8.03 ranking and 350 voters. Pathfinder is rated 12th place with 7.45 and 180 voters. DnD 4e is rated 170th place with a 6.5 rating and 387 voters. Dresden Files is rated 5th place with 7.61 rating and 62 voters. The ranks and ratings are adjusted so that if a game has less voters it automaticly gets a lower rating. The point I'm making is that if that many games can beat out DnD 4e then MLP RPG could too. Now I think if we were still in the days of DnD 1st or 2nd ed, or didn't have the tools of the internet then yeah, MLP RPG would never be successful, but in this day and age with people looking for different RPG options and getting away from the White Wolf/DnD standards, it has a very good chance. The market is more competitive now and that is a good thing for smaller companies and for gamers. It is only bad for corporations.

Well, my initial intentions with this project was just for fun so commercial succes is not that important. 3 out of the six people of my roleplaying group are bronies so I figured it could be fun.

I am not that experienced though so I appriciate any help I can get  .

The next step is a list of talents for the each of major species.

on the subject of Rp's that did a decent job im suddenly reminded of a not so old story i made one or two years ago that was big hit for the short time that it was alive before the site it was posted on was taking down what made it great was that it wasn't made from just one guy (i.e myself) but was made from a number of people who Rp'd the story out (the number of people being few cause Rp wasn't that big on the site and it was better to talk ideas out with 5 people then it was with 10 people

the story was like a mix of command and conquer mixed with section 8 (and by like i mean it was shockingly creepy at how similar it was to the two) and while it wasn't a story that was good enough to go outside the site (being as how i was a writer newb back then) there was a number of people who wanted to get involved in it or wanted it to continue

anyway nostalgia speech over with, and i.ll continue with what i was going to say at first witch was

don't you think a rp that works a little to much like dungeons and dragons might be a little hard to do on a single thread post?
