Okay, this has been on my mind recently. I've never really thought about getting a tattoo (I'm 17, so it's out of the question for now anyway). However, I have been toying with the idea. If I was to get a tattoo, it wouldn't just be a cool picture, it would have to mean something. It is attached to my skin, after all. After some careful thought, I decided if I was to get a tattoo, it would have to represent my belief that maturity involves being a good human being, putting others before yourself, and has nothing to do with being serious, tough and macho. So, to express this, it would have to be something girly, childish, just generally the opposite of what a stereotypical 'manly man' would have. As a brony, how could I pass up that opportunity? But, as I value all of your opinions, I want to know if it's worth it. Bearing in mind, I don't mean I would get Rainbow Dash's cutie mark on my backside, I mean I would get something like Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie on my arm, or something as blatantly pony as that. If I'm going through with it, might as well go the whole way. So what do you think? Would it be a step too far? Crossed the line? A one way ticket to stupidville? Or is it a good idea, an excellent notion, bronyness at it's utmost and finest? Personally, I'm not too sure. It's a big decision to make, considering tattoos are kind of permanent (unless you have a few hundred to spare and can deal with the intense laser removal surgery. I fail on both accounts). I have seen Friendship is Magic tattoos, and I did like what I saw. I wouldn't jump into something like this if I wasn't sure myself, I just want you opinions on the act of getting a My Little Pony tattoo.
I think that it takes it a bit too far. I mean, sure, if you're a brony, be proud. But I think that a permanent reminder on your skin of it is a little much.
As long as you cab look back 30 or 40 years from now and still feel proud of it, I say go for it. I do plan on getting tattoos that mean something significant to me, and if MLP really does strike a chord with you enough to have a pony on your skin, then by all means ink yourself up.
Any examples? I haven't yet seen any. I personally prefer tattoos not containing characters (for this matter, but it could apply to objects or symbols as well) created and copyrighted by another company (or other famous bands, films, shows, etc...), but rather see something personally created. It also seems like a very risky move since you can never be certain how you will think back on your decision to get the tattoo and it might become much more annoying to explain why you decided to get it might future generations of the cartoon not be worth watching. But it's up to you to decide of course.
A character indeed is not a good idea for a tattoo - no character at all. You could do a symbol representing the community/show like a hoof or similar. Maybe a horn, wings or something like that. If you asked me, a MLP tattoo is going too far, seriously. IF i was to tattoo somethin' on my skin (Not that i would EVER tattoo something (Just don't like them)) then it would be a name i deeply love, maybe the name of your future beloved (wife) or one of your kid's name.
Personally, I think it's going to far. But that's just me. I'm one of those people who watches this show in secret. All I can say is, do what your heart tells you (as cheesy as that sounds). If you want a MLP tattoo, more power to ya, but think very hard before you make that decision since it will be there foooreverrr...
It depends. Down my arm I have a huge Samurai Champloo piece. Although unless you've seen the series it just looks like a Samurai thing. In this day a & age having things from TV, Games, Music is accepted by most. I'm not telling you to get, just.........Make sure YOUR happy with what you have inked. Don't worry for the approval of others, as if you looking for their ok to have it done, it's means your unsure yourself. Make sure YOU are 100% happy having it!
Rainbow Dash Cutie Mark. Nuff Said. But as for a pony. [Insert that Rainbow Dash pony tattoo.] That may go a bit far.
I think the real issue is whether I want a tattoo at all. If I definitely wanted one, then I would actually have no doubt it would be pony related. Thing is, the idea of having anything put onto your skin forever is what concerns me, pony or not.
Maybe not a literal tattoo, but something about MLP that means something special to you. It's really up to you. However, I hope you're not planning to get your own cutie mark... that would be a bit excessive hahaha.
Really, don't get a tattoo. You're 17. Decide when you're in your 20s and you have a clearer idea of where you stand in life. Teenagers are really too capricious for such a permanent decision.
i second that. and i also follow the sentiment that getting a character tattooed may not be a good thing. a horseshoe, sure. a pair of wings, sure. a tribal/ethnic styled horse, sure. i got a life-size koi on my hip. don't regret it because it was planned for years. you also have to consider the time and money involved and pain. if a paper cut makes you dizzy from pain, a tattoo isn't for you. i slept thru a big chunk of mine, but i have a good pain threshold...that being said, it will ALWAYS hurt over the bone.
just look online for a mlp temperory tatoo, that way if you change your mind you just need cotton wool and warm water
I must agree with those that say it may be going a bit too far, of course the final decision will be yours, and yours alone. Part of the reason I'm leery of the idea is for personal reasons. I'm 25 and I never wanted a tattoo of anything. I just don't like the idea of doing something to my body that'll be permanent. Also, I don't think I'd have the pain tolerance to have it put on, and I don't even want to know how painful it would be to get it removed if desired. That brings me to my not-so-personal reason; permanence. As others have mentioned and as I'm sure you're clearly aware, the tattoo would be permanent, unless you wanted to go through the pain of having it removed. As much as we all would love it to, this fandom will most-likely not last forever, and if you move beyond bronydom, you'll be stuck with whatever mark you've had put on you. Don't get me wrong, I've got nothing against those that get tattoos. I have some relatives that have some. My main concern is its permanence. I'm glad that you're dedicated enough to the fandom to consider it, but I think it's just a bit too far, but that's my opinion. As I said first, you'll be the one to make the final decision. If you do decide to get a cutie mark though, you know exactly where you're supposed to put that tattoo. Could you imagine that conversation with your significant other? "Hey, want me to show you my cutie mark?" Seriously though, you probably shouldn't do that, but uh... you know... um... whatever you want to do is fine.
When I was a teenager, I hated any kind of authority, irrationally believing that anyone who got in the way of absolute freedom was evil, and - I blamed it on Dungeons and Dragons. When the hormones kicked in, I discovered love and fell in love with it. And I'm a guy.
I agree with some of the other things people have said, it might be going a bit too far, but ultimately, it is your decision. Also, if you DO get it, I wouldn't get the face of one of the mane cast, like others have said, maybe a wing or a hoof.
Don't forget that you were going to tattoo my name across your face for giving you a link to that sing in EPR. :derpe: But seriously, I also would agree that getting a pony for a tattoo might be a bit much. A temporary tattoo I can see, but not so much a permanent one. Maybe go for a small tattoo of a cutie mark you like, a hoofprint, some evil eyes (like in the very beginning of Ep. 1 when they first introduce Nightmare Moon), or something along those lines.
Need to clear something up. To those suggesting I get something like a hoofprint or a pair of wings, that does go against why I considered getting it a tattoo in the first place. I wanted something BLATANTLY related to My Little Pony, as it would be the exact opposite of what a 'mature' tattoo should be. Anything less than 100% girly would lose the effect. However, I do appreciate your opinions. It has made me think, and maybe a tattoo is an interesting idea, but not the most sensible way to go about expressing my views. I guess ordering a My Little Pony towel for when I go on holiday this October will suffice. Oh, and Lightning_Mustang, I said I'd get your name tattooed on my 'cheeks'. I never mentioned the face... heh....
