Spoiler: Princess Cadence I'm sure you all know of this mare. The one that is Princess Celestia's Niece and married the captain of the Royal Guard, who also happens to be Twilight Sparkle's brother. I've noticed something odd: In the current day form, Princess Cadence has a square-like muzzle, just as Princess Celestia and Princess Luna do. She also has purple on the ends of her wings. In the flashback where Twilight was younger, her muzzle was rounded like that of a normal mare, and her wings are completely pink. Why does her muzzle square off like that? Perhaps it's something to do with age, considering Luna and Celestia are both extremely old, so they look like that. That would bring up the question of how old she actually is, which could get creepy considering Shining Armor's age. Another theory I had was that alicorns specifically get square muzzles as they grow older. I dunno, we don't see alicorns much in the series. As for the wings...I really have no clue. Maybe she got some disease as she was growing up? What do you guys think? Discuss.
Re: Muzzle - I think the whole "they get it as they grow older" sounds legit. Re: Wingtips - I know this is partially relying on fanon, but in pictures where Celestia and Luna are younger, their manes haven't quite developed the spendor that they possess today. I theorize that Cadence's wingtips are similar.
I think you're giving this a bit too much thought. :derpe: Mares get older, that's about it. Alot of animals change shape and color as they grow more mature. Chickens for example.
I'm comparing her to regular mares in Equestria. She looks different to them, even though they are (for the most part) the same species and around the same age. Why?
I assume that alicorns are more magical than regular ponies, so they go through more change. Let's compare little Luna to big Luna: That is some difference. I guess that when alicorns start to reach their true potential, they mature. As for the whole Shining Armour thing, I assume that they are similar ages now. However, if Cadence is like the other princesses, then she'll remain young whilst Shining Armour grows old. So that will look awkward as well. But still let's enjoy the present while we can.
Well, at least the square muzzle thing can't be just because of the alicorn species. In fact, why the hoof does she look so much like an alicorn without wings? What makes HER different from other unicorns? That's a better question
Meta-Reason: The animators used Luna's model when animating her. Story-wise, I don't think she's any different from an ordinary mare. I think they went with that body style to accentuate just how...gorgeous...she's supposed to be (at least in the eyes of other ponies). Fanon: She could be half-alicorn, like some kind of ponified dhampyr. Vampire Hunter F. Someone write this fic. Now!
Maybe it's in their genes, like hairy knuckles? EDIT: Quill had a good reason. Maybe she's got some alicorn blood in her. She is one of the upper class ponies afterall.
They were trying to make a hot, trophy wife pony for Fancy pants, and we have to admit, Princess Cadence is best looking pony Makes sense that alicorns will have more *ahem* appeal than normal breed ponies.
Well if I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times (and so has Lauren Faust, btw). You guys are reading way too much into this. Not trying to be mean, just sayin' But, if that's what you wanna do, then that's what you're gonna to do. Whatever floats your boat I guess. Back on topic, I attribute it to age. Babysitters tend to be young, preteens and teenagers typically. She looks much younger during the flashbacks when she is playing with Twi, and many years have gone by since. At the wedding she looks different, older. Because she is older. Really that's all there is to it.
Don't worry, we're just doing this for fun (well I am anyway). I don't think that anyone of us will start sending hate mail to Lauren Faust saying that her cartoon doesn't make sense.

Cadance is one of my top 5 characters. I never really noticed and it doesn't bother me. I agree it just grows with age.
More brainhurt for me now. I agree with the idea of the muzzle developing as alicorns grow older. Maybe it may be a sign of dominance too, or prestige. Maybe it's how they would have established a pecking order.

Fleur de Lis is wife to Fancypants. I guess she would have the muzzle she does because of her high position in society.
Princess Cadence is just a good all around character in my opinion why should her appearance matter. I mean she could be the ugliest alicorn mare ever but if her personality was anything like it is now most if not all of us would still like her.
