Oh no, Trollestia. <3 Hehe. She be our Princess. I think Celestia is a pretty cool pony. Eh wears a crown, has huge wings and doesn't afraid of anything...
Although I find Trollestia to be hilarious in many fan-made comics, I still really prefer her caring and gentler appearance in the show. ...Anybody up for a Celestia-centered episode in the future?
Princess Celestia is symbol of slavery, cruelty and other dark sides of monarchy. Despotism, because Celestia is something like god. And she is also so sweet... I do not like her.
I guess that after reigning over Equestria for a very long time, 1,000 years of which alone without her sister, Princess Celestia got sort of tired of all the royal etiquette, ponies regarding her as a deity and bowing before her, and all that stuff. She tries to be closer to the other ponies than what would usually be expected from her. (They keep on bowing, but well...) She teaches magic apprentices—although we've yet to see her teach Twilight Sparkle or anypony else personally—, she spends not little time outside Canterlot, and she does what she can to loosen the usually stiff atmosphere around her. A Bird in the Hoof is the number one Trollestia episode, hooves down, yes. And yes, she trolls the Cakes twice within a few seconds, but she does it in good fun to make her visit appear less like serious business. Also, it isn't her who actively trolls Fluttershy, it was Philomena. Princess Celestia simply never gets to tell the ponies that her bird is an aging phoenix and soon going to incinerate herself because Philomena disappears into Fluttershy's care too quickly. Guess she would never have counted on anypony to try and nurse her bird back to health without her consent (and explanation beforehand, i.e. chance to identify Philomena as a phoenix). The Best Night Ever is something different again. It seems like Celestia received Twilight Sparkle's letter about how she couldn't decide whom of her friends to give her spare ticket and decided to send tickets for them all—not only so that Twilight can take all her friends with her to the Gala, but also because she knew in advance that normal ponies from Ponyville and Cloudsdale would never fit into such a high society event, especially not Twilight's wacky friends whom she must have known well enough by then (this regardless of pretty much all of Ponyville and Cloudsdale having managed to obtain tickets, you can spot lots of important background ponies at the Gala). I mean, she tells Twilight and her friends that she knew in advance they'd be absolute misfits at that soirée, and she was actually glad that they crashed it because it had been boring every single time before, so she did plan this in advance somehow. On the other hoof, it wasn't really her fault that there were that many ponies for her and Twilight to meet and greet, nor can you blame her for Twilight's friends' failures during the Gala, so she didn't really troll them. Speaking of Twilight: Sending her apprentice to Ponyville with a mission that translates to "Get a life" was certainly anything but malicious. And I guess Celestia believed she could handle her sister's return herself, perhaps with some help from her royal guards. One more point: If Princess Celestia were evil or at least a major troll through and through, would she have asked Princess Luna for forgiveness? Even more, would her sister have forgiven her?
That would be a neat episode for sure! We would finally get to see an episode chronicling a day in the life of the ruler of Equestria! It's funny, out of Princess Celestia and Luna, I like Luna better for some reason... Not that I hate Celestia, I just find Luna more interesting somehow.
I have a theory that, unlike what usually happens to a female ruler in the good side (i.e. a preserved young-looking queen who existed forever), Celestia is still young, and was young back when Nightmare Moon had to be sealed. And given that the Elements of Harmony, unlike what's shown by the legend, are not all held by only one soul, she probably had close friends back then, just like Twilight. As unigasi/unipegs live longer than the three main species, she lived longer than her friends, watching them passing away while she had to stay strong as ruler. Without her sister and close friends, and being taken either as a fearful authority or merely as a passport to status, she probably felt a lot lonely, even with her attempts to get closer to her subjects or make life less strict. As she's a princess, I believe she's still young, because she doesn't sound any old especially by her attitude. She likes to play games and tricks on others, and seems to highly dislike social events and the high society.
ah, Trollestia. yes, she does know to troll a bit. well, I didn't like that she sent her sister away, but at least she offered Luna hand of friendship and showed she has missed her. otherwise she seems like fair ruler of Equestria, trying to keep in touch with her ponies, and not being too much in clouds (not literally) .
I don't really enjoy Celessy as a character. She seems more to play with her subjects than to help them. I love her personality to the other ponies, but to be honest, for creator of this land, she seems very irresponsible. I would love to have an episode focused on her, perhaps making it clear that she does so much for Equestria, but only wishes to be a normal pony. She did have to clean up a parasprite problem all on her own. I just realized why I don't like her, she is not SHOWN doing anything productive in the land of Equestria. Not a really a good ruler who just sits around and reads the letters Twilight recieves. WE NEED A CELESTIA EPISODE when I think about it deeply.
Well, I can understand where you're coming from about her not being helpful and being irresponsible, but think about it like this: She was the sole ruler of the entire land for 1000 years. Do you really think that it would have been easy to help all the ponies? No, it would not have, so she often lets them sort out problems by themselves so that they learn to not depend so much on her. It's a lot like *insert religious deity of your choice or, if you're athiest, the U.S. government*, really.
Maybe is little hard talk about her personality (I mean her Original personality) because she dont appear much in the season, as the others said, I think would be a good idea a episode about Celestia, about a day in her life jeje XD, and also I like Celestia, Actually I LIKE ALL EVERYPONIES OF THE SHOW¡¡¡¡¡¡jeje XD
Celestia acts more like a Mother, perphars that's foreshadowing something, she's warm and caring' maternal and positive...
I adore Celestia in 'most all her forms. I love the canon character; I love trollestia; I love the despotic tyrant. She's just... Wonderful. And it's because she's such a blank slate. The writers don't give her any substantial dialogue, no character development, and no real plot to speak of. Normally, that'd be a bad thing, but in this case they load her down with a mythos. She can send her enemies to the moon or turn them to stone; she makes the sun rise. That kind of power mixed with that kind of enigmatic characterization makes her a titillating mystery--and a rabidly creative fandom only makes her that much better.
A god is to a demon what a freedom fighter is to a terrorist. So the answer is a very definite maybe.
How long did Luna and Celestia rule together before the banishment? After being alive for over 1000 years, I think the quirks Celestia has are rather tame. You'd probably get pretty bored and need to do stranger and more extreme things to keep yourself entertained. For canon, the worst she does is show up naked at fancy parties.
