Spoiler: Picture ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ana stared at the boy on the doorstep, her eyes wide with surprise. She reached out a trembling hand, and grabbed the note. Scanning over the letter, she took a quick, sharp breath. She poked the boy in the shoulder. "Um.." she said, hesitantly, "Are you awake?"
The boy opens his eyes, blinking. "Hello." He says, in a slight monotone. "Are you Ana?" He asks, sitting up. He looked fairly normal, but his movements were a bit stiff.
"Yes." she said, one hand on the doorway, her fingers tugging at the peeling paint. With a mind swirling with questions, she decided with the most persistent one. "Who are you?"
"Daniel, I think. Yes... That is my given name." The boy says, looking at her. "Do you have any more questions?"
Ana looked at the paper, scrutinizing the handwriting. Her eyes lingered over the word 'Dad.' The word surged through her, bringing memories of herself tugging at her mother's skirt, asking where her father was, desperate for some details. With the memories brought surprising anger. "Is this some kind of joke?" she asked, disgust evident in her voice.
"Joke? I do not believe so." Daniel says. "But I can tell you one if you wish." He gets out of the box, picking up the present, holding it out to her. "I was instructed to give this to you." He says.
Ana looked at him warily. She took the gift and carefully unwrapped it, taking care not to rip the paper.
Inside the box was a simple black box, with a USB cord sticking out of it. It also had what looked like an input slot for a cable. "Huh, so that's what's in it..." Daniel says,
Ana gingerly picked up the cable. Peering at it, she narrowed her eyes in suspicion. "What is this?" she asked the boy. "Who left it?"
"Can't tell you, and you already have the answer." Daniel says. "It will tell you when plugged into your computer, though."
Ana tucked a lock of black hair behind her ear, and stared at Daniel. "Alright." she said finally. "You'd better come inside."
Ana entered the dark house, and went straight to the computer. The desk was covered with loose papers, textbooks, and pencils. She pushed some of the clutter to the side, and shook the mouse impatiently to wake it up. She plugged in the cable.
The computer screen went completely blank, then a small window popped up. It had a few options. 1. Upload Program 2. Scan System 3. Reboot 4. Exit
Daniel fumbles around in his pocket, handing her the end of a cable. "Perhaps plugging this in, and scanning the system?" He suggests.
