Orangebolt was sitting in Principal Celestia's office, waiting for the last of his admission papers to be processed. He was reading through some of the packets that Vice Principal Luna gave him. They mentioned things about clubs, school events, grades, etc. Celestia finished signing the last of his forms. "Ok, Orangebolt. Welcome to Canterlot High!" She printed off his schedule and handed it to him. "If you need anything, don't be afraid to go ask Councilor Cadence. Her office is right next to mine." "Thank you Ms. Celestia. Have a nice day!" Said Orange, as he slung his backpack over his left shoulder, and walked out of her office. He looked down at his schedule. His homeroom was with... Dr. Discord. Life Science. "Huh. Funny name." He thought to himself, as he sped his pace to light jog, arriving in Homeroom a couple minutes early. The pale teacher looked up from grading some tests to see a new face. "Ah, if it isn't Mr... Orangebolt? Nice to have you, lad. Sit down anywhere for now. I'll seat you at the start of class." Orangebolt complied, and took a seat in the middle of the room. He put the books he didn't need for this period under his seat, and looked around the room, twiddling his thumbs.
As the bell rang, the rest of the students piled in, sitting in their assigned seats. As the influx began to slow, Dr. Discord was shaking his head; something he had done quite often in the past few weeks. "She's still got about 30 seconds, Doc." Said a pretty green girl with light and dark blue hair. As she took her seat next to Orangebolt, she gasped slightly. "Oh, hello there. You must be the new boy. I'm Wild Awry." Before he could answer, another girl, this one peach colored and with a messy black ponytail, slid in the doorway only seconds before the bell rang. "Oh," said Wild sweetly, "I forgot to tell you that you're in Rockette's seat, hon."
"Oh, I apologize." Orange gathered his books and sat in a vacant seat nearby. "Nice to meet you. I'm Orangebolt. I transferred from Manehatten Academy. Private school wasn't really for me." He said, with a small laugh.
Rockette went to sit down but noticed Orange sitting there. "New guy?" Rockette asked as he nodded. "I'm Rockette. What's your name, dude?"
"So I've heard." Said Orange, as many students surrounded him and incessantly asked questions. "Alright class. Give the new kid some space." They complied, and sat back down in their seats. "Now that we have introductions out of the way, open your text books to chapter 12, section 1, and begin reading. We'll have a class discussion on it when everybody's done." Orange opened his life science textbook, and skimmed through the table of contents. Chapter 12 started on page 348. He quickly flipped to 348, and began reading. "Oh good. Plant Cells. I learned this stuff already." He thought to himself. He continued reading anyway, just to refresh himself. 10 minutes had past, and everyone had finished reading. "Alright! Questions? Concerns? Snide Remarks?" asked Dr. Discord. Orange raised his hand. "Yes, Orange?" "I didn't really understand what the vacuoles did." "They help maintain the shape of the cell. Next! Anybody? C'mon, new kid wasn't afraid to ask a question, so why should you?"
The class remained silent as Dr. Discord began his lecture. He quickly scrawled notes and anatomical figures of different plants on the whiteboard and the class struggled to keep up with his notes. Rockette quickly raised his hand... something that did NOT happen often. "Yo, Doc, could you explain again just what makes the wood so hard?" Half the class snickered as Wild buried her face in the palms of her hands. "Well, it's certainly not from that little shimmy you did on the way in" he replied, trying not to snicker, "Anything else, Miss Humbucker?" Rockette chuckled and shook his head. Dr. D knew a good joke when he heard one but continued, "Anyway, the real answer is that..."
Orange usually didn't laugh at those kind of jokes, but he couldn't help but grin a bit when the teacher said it. Periods were about to change. "Alright, before I dismiss you guys, here's your homework!" He passed out a simple worksheet to the class. "There's a short video on my blog with the answers. Have a nice day! You are dismissed!" He said, walking to the door and opening it. Orange turned Rockettr and Wild before getting up. "Is he even aloud to say that?" He asked, with a small smile, clearly referring to the joke Dr. D made earlier.
Rockette chuckled again. "Not technically, but we're able to kid around with him. Don't get me wrong, he's a real hard-ass when you step over the line." "Well," said Wild, "It's lunch time. You wanna sit with us?"
"Sure, just let me get my lunch from my locker. Orange walked into the lunchroom with a brown paper bag, looked around to find Wild and Rockette, and sat down across from them. "So," He took out an apple from the bag, and shined it with a paper napkin. "Got any hobbies?"
"Well," answered Wild, "Rockette here is a pretty damn good guitarist." Rockette just kind of shrugged. "Well, I can hold my own. How 'bout you, dude?"
"Guitar? Nice! I play bass. Not bass guitar, but the one you would see in an orchestra, with a bow. I also enjoy fencing quite a bit."
Rockette: Fencing? Well, we could use a hand putting up some chain-link at my aunt's house. Wild: *snorts* Not THAT kind of fencing, ya goob. Rockette: I was just kidding. *laughs* How long you been doing that? *takes a bite of sandwich* Wild: Rockette, PLEASE chew with your mouth closed. Rockette: *sticks out tongue* Wild: I swear, she's worse than a damn boy sometimes!
Orange snickers mildly at their little argument. "About three years." He took another bite of his apple.
The three of them laughed and talked for a few more minutes before Rockette got a funny feeling in his stomach. "Ooh, be right back"
Wild: Not really. I don't really have a lot of hobbies like Rockette does. Usually I just tag along with her.
"I'm sure there's something interesting about you, but if you insist." Orange took a small container of yogurt out of his bag.
"Well," said Wild as she swallowed her mouthful of salad, "I do have a bit of an interest in meteorology. My boyfriend says I'd make a good weather girl someday... if I can ever get over being so camera shy."
