Okay, i just watched the Running if the Leaves episode and i just found it SO wierd seing rainbow running or walking instead of flying. o______o Which brings up another thing (Non-related) I find it wierd to see Fluttershy flying instead of being on the ground with her little critters ya know? And this is the episode that made me realize who my favorite pony was. Applejack of course!
i theght it was weird too, but at the ending rainbow flys again so its not that weird. Im an applejack fan sin the first episode
Well, wasn't the whole point for Rainbow Dash of the running of the leaves segment to not use her wings? I mean, she did have a bit of an advantage of Applejack in some of those Iron Pony challenges because of that. And I must concur, Applejack is in a six-way tie for my favorite of the mane six.
I don't see it as a weird thing~ Dashie is a really athletic pony, and she's runned and walked a bunch before even outside Fall Weather Friends xD I think if she just flew all the time she would get bored, really. She's full of energy and needs a mix of a bunch of things to do!
Running, Flying, it doesn't matter you just have to go fast. But really that was the point of the challenge, to run not fly.
Well, first I'd like to say I'm glad this thread isn't what I thought it was about when I saw the title, heh, and the image macro you posted makes me think of this video. On topic; pretty much what some others have said, the point was not to use her wings. Also, if she did use her wings all the time, and never her legs, I think her legs would eventually become weak. I believe Applejack's legs are actually stronger than Rainbow Dash's from all the apple bucking she does. I could be wrong about that though. Both of them are very athletic in their own ways. Applejack is my 4th favorite and Rainbow Dash is my 5th, by the way. In case anypony was curious.
I thought it was proven in the Iron Pony Competition that Applejack has more leg strength, as she won both the arm wrestling and whatever that contraption is where you hit a target and try to ring the bell. It was interesting seeing an episode where Rainbow Dash walked for the majority of it, though. You don't see her walking all that often in the others. She seems to be more grounded though in later episodes, if I'm remembering correctly.
