SO AWESOME!!!! I had avoided shipping fics because I just did not like the idea of it, but then I decided what the hell I'll read the one that was suggested on the last episode of the Bronyville podcast. It was called Once Bitten, Twice Shy. It was really really good, one of the best fics I've read to date. It wasn't just about Twilight and Fluttershy being really awkward, it was about their friends trying to hook them up and lots of hilarity is the result. I highly recommend it and I wonder why I ever dismissed shipping, since in many case I do get emotionally touched when I see characters in movies or shows or books I read express romantic feelings and what not. Just like I have become more of a man by watching My Little Pony, I have also become more of a man by reading and getting hooked on a brilliant shipping fic. Expect an audiobook version of this fic from me soon.
I've never considered myself into sappy or romantic stuff, but my first fic was exactly that. On top of this, I read romance fics almost exclusively (Past Sins being the first to break that idea). I drew writing inspiration from: "The Ballad of Twilight Sparkle" (Twixie) - Extremely well done for balancing perspectives, original content, comedy, and romance. "Common Sky" (TwiLuna) - Slow and sappy, but the prose and mood capturing were my favorite parts. And the biggest inspiration of all: "Spark" (TwiLuna) and its Epilogue - Very emotional and fairly well written. The ending was even more soul rattling than "Of Mares & Magic" (original ending). While Spark has ended and Common Sky is continued, it seems that The Ballad of Twilight Sparkle is dead.

It probably helped that TwiShy is my favourite paring to begin with. I can't imagine a more interesting one, but maybe I can be proven wrong. I am not very interested in Luna fics though because I avoid things that aren't mane 6, or at least CMC.
I'm actually disappointed there isn't more Twilight/Rarity ones. I always wanted to explore Rarity's personality. I personally don't like the CMCs much beyond what their purpose is: comedy relief and self exploration. I think the reason so many fics of characters hardly seen is that there is so much to explore and interpret of what their personalities *could* be. That's why we have Luna's personality ranging from prankster to emo(tional) and everything in between. With literally nothing known about her, it's actually fun to write her.
That is part of the reason I don't read Luna, If she ever is featured in a official MLP episode, I don't want to have stories I have read previously to become useless and have to try and separate the canon and non canon. That is why I will also put a fic down if the mane characters act out of character to much. I like to be able to consider everything I read to be season 1.5 I have read and enjoyed grimdark however, but it is easier to put a barrier between the canon and non canon with those. I have to admit though, Pinkie Pie will always creep me out little bit since Cupcakes and Party of None.
Actually, from what I hear, Ballad isn't dead. The author is updating all the chapters and uploading them to FiMfiction*, and I'm pretty sure the story will continue after the revisions to the first thirteen chapters are complete and uploaded. *Link: http://www.fimfiction.net/story/67/The-Ballad-of-Twilight-Sparkle Hmm, Once Bitten Twice Shy...I don't believe I've read this story. I think I'll give it a try. Twishy is one of the rare ships in this fandom, and I am a sucker for rare ships like this.
I had a look and it is actually shorter then One Bitten Twice Shy, so I think I will probably read it soon. If I like it enough I'll add it to the audiobook queue.

Don't let one bad fic ruin it for you. Of course it all depends on for what reasons you hated that fic, who knows I may enjoy the same fic. I recommend this as a good one to start on I was certainly impressed and felt happy after reading it. Please give it a try. I mean..... If you really want to.....
I just don't think that Fandom should extend to giving Non-Existent characters inappropriate relationships. Leave that to the storyboard writers and artists of the show.
Not this again. My Love for Fluttershy knows no bounds, just because Zephyr got a fic written about him and Fluttershy doesn't mean nothing.

...I read all fics, really... Except the seriously grape-grimdark types like Sweet Apple Massacre. That, cannot be unread sadly. I like the mild-grimdarks, myself... like The Night That Never Ended by Bronycray. (in all fairness though, I would not call it grimdark) Shipping, I like as well. ^_^
