So I was wondering, how many of us have actually been around real horses? When I was growing up, we had horse drawn carriages . . . Just kidding. But I did live on my grandfather's farm which consisted mostly of chickens, pigs, sheep - and one horse that technically belonged to my aunt. So, I learned a little how to handle horses and such, but, quite frankly, those big beasts used to scare the bejesus out of me! I was terrified to give him food from my hand, and when I brought hay or oats out to him, he'd rush up to his trough, and I was terrified he'd run into me. Oh, I was 11-12, if that matters. So - any other horse care takers? Or wanna-be horse care takers?
well, yeah, I was around real horses and ponies many times in my life (last time about 2 months ago). I've pet them and ride them (horses, not ponies, I think i'm too big for ponies). anyway, from time to time I go with my parents to country side on kind of field trip where they have horses. but still I like horses as much as any other animal (I'm exactly like Fluttershy when it comes to animals IRL). although my favourite animals are racoons, foxes and rabbits. but I love all creatures (even snakes, spiders and other animals people usually don't like) (exception: I don't like mosquitoes, they are annoying)
I don't mean to brag, but I do know how to handle animals quite well. My uncle has a ranch, where he keeps many animals, but his favorite is a black mare by the name of Tigressa (my family is Spanish, so you gotta trill the R). He's had her since I was born and I got a chance to ride her when I was about 12. Of course, I had to have someone ride with me and it was sort of annoying. The next time I went to ranch, about 3 years later, I wanted to ride her around the ranch. I finally was able to ride alone, and I managed to get to galloping speed no problem. I can't wait to go back, I love that horse!
Wanna-be horse care takers here. Since the begin of my life, I always wanted to ride horses, and even more have one. Just imagining one makes me shiver, for I really love these lovely creatures. I think Epona from Zelda is responsible for this, since I was into red horses all my life. If I was to ride a (around 13 years old) red horse with a black nose and a white mane I'd be happy. Oh, and the purpose of mosquitoes is in the food chain. Mosquito larvae are aquatic insects, and as such, play an important role in the aquatic food chain. As adults, mosquitoes serve as meals for birds, bats, and spiders. They have populated the world for more than 200 million years, and if this never-ending species was to be wiped out, there would be drastic changes in the ecosystem of the worlds as it is.
Although I've never been around horses much (contrary to popular belief, not all of Wales is fields and hills. Well, South Wales isn't anyway). However, horses are, like every single animal fathomable, of great interest to me. I think they are beautiful, graceful, and wonderful animals. I love all animals though. From horses to vultures to rats to whales to mosquitos to gorillas to jellyfish. Whenever there is a fly or a spider in my house, my family always call me to deal with it because I refuse to kill it, no matter how small it is. Just because it's insignificant to us, it doesn't mean it's has no significance at all. In fact, the only animal I have any form of issue with is the human being, not wasps or sharks. Fluttershyesque rant over, I do love horses, and respect them greatly, but I've never had the privilege of being around them in the way you have. I woud like to though. I plan on living in Iceland when I'm older. May own a few horses and let them run around in some serious acres. Ah, what a dream.
dh.. don't get me wrong, I don't kill mosquitoes aether. just I prefer to be away from me ^.^' on topic: I actually love all animals so much that I've become vegetarian when I was 15 so I don't take any kind of part of killing animals (of course, I don't wear fur or real leather). as for horses, I like them as much as any other animal
Wait... you all own horses? *Disconnected* ...but seriously, it'd be kinda cool to own some horses, so long as this doesn't happen: http://theoatmeal.com/story/eat_horses
Ah, now I see what I like about you, Luprony. I am the same. It drove my family crazy. They'd be trying to kill flies in the house, and I'd be trying to get them outside. My step-mother thought I was certifiable. Well, I am, but not for the reason she thought. One of my best friends is pretty much the same, only worse. She feels bad about the billions of bacteria she kills when she showers. (She still does, don't get any weird ideas, now) I feel bad, but I also know they'll regrow their colonies in no time at all. Also, you're from Wales. That's very cool right there.
Never actually encountered another Welsh brony here. In fact, the only other Welsh brony I even know of lives 5 minutes away from me and was my best friend in primary school. Wales is not a pony friendly country. Mae Cymru does ddim yn hoffi merlod... Anyway. It's funny, on holiday, where my family spend small fortunes on mosquito spray, nets, etc, and still end up bitten head to toe, I haven't been bitten once, and I don't use anything like that. How's that for a Buddhism argument? Karma in play right there. I'm an atheist, or agnostic, or to be honest a rationalist myself (I don't know how the universe was made, nobody does, I just feel science is more credible. Not definitely right, just more likely in my opinion), yet I have always had a thing for Buddhism. I see it more as a lifestyle than a belief. I respect it greatly. I'm sidetracking now. Religion in a horses thread, HOW?!
I have encountered some horses and ponies IRL before, but nothing that'll shock and amaze. The last time I saw horses IRL was in North Carolina a few years ago when I was on vacation. Some family and I visited a beach where horses actually ran wild. Well, I didn't see any run. Most of them were grazing by the dunes, and a I saw a couple walk near the ocean. I've also visited a wildlife park in Pennsylvania where there were some horses. I also had an opportunity to ride a horse, or rather a pony as a kid (I thought it was a horse, but my parents insist that it was a pony). This was probably almost 15 years ago, so I don't remember much about it except how terrified I was. Here was this relatively large animal I was on and I was just hoping that it wouldn't start dashing (haha, dash) forward. All I remember thinking was what is actually stopping this thing from darting forward or knocking me off? Am I really the one in control, here? Anyway, I'm not scared of horses, but I don't know if I'd ever want to ride one again. That little experience makes me a bit scared of riding them, but who knows, maybe I might try it again someday.
I have 2 1/2 horses (miniature horse ) because my mom REALLY love(d/s) horses. She used to ride them, broke her leg which didn't heal for like, a year because the doctors here are stoopid, and got out of the habit. We eventually let them out onto the lawn (our property is entirely fenced in with a gate, so they can't go run off ) when we're too lazy to mow it. I refuse to get within 10 feet of the back of them, because I'm incredibly paranoid of getting kicked. I remain hesitant to go near them at times for the fear that they will turn evil and attack my face.
My teacher made an example of Pastafarianism to show relative ease in making creation stories. One girl claimed that it was her religion. I thought she was joking. And then I discovered the internet.
<cue horse loving monster> Not only am I "into" real horses... I'm completely OBSESSED with them to the point I'm very strict about people getting their facts right about them. I'm a horse-addicted monster that has been riding for 8 years on top of the fact I own my own horse (bay purebred arabian mare; registered - she's very ... comparable to Derpy ;D). I've ridden western for 8 years and I've now had jumping lessons for a few months. I can jump 1 1/2 feet without stirrups, and you may go "pft... 1 foot" but it's actually not as easy as it looks or sounds. Also the only way you're riding a "red horse with a black nose and a white mane" would be a bay paint, probably some sort of strange tobiano for the white mane ;D I'm now intrigued. ANYWAY. I'm into horse genetics - meaning I'm into coat colors and what genes are needed to create them. I know all my colors and can name them off the top of my head, and I can name all the "add-on genes" (ie: cream gene, dun gene, roan, etc). I also am very VERY strict about Arabian colors when people try and say what type of horse they won't but don't know colors. I'm... obsessive, as I said. It's probably bad for me.... BUT DANG IT YOU WILL SAY THE PROPER COLORS AROUND ME (bronieturtle knows that too well). Such as (I stand by this until I SEE PHYSICAL PROOF in front of my face) I don't believe that true white horses exist. Horses can be gray, but cannot be white. I'm also very fluttershy with animals. I have yet to meet a horse that doesn't like me and that I don't like and get along with; it's been 8 years and a crap ton of horses. I was dubbed a natural at riding and I pick things up quickly. After all, girls have taken lessons for years and just now have their stirrups off the saddle... I've been riding for months and I already got to that point. </feels bad about bragging> anyway.. that's my story. ...I RIDE A PONY TOO BTW... ;D sexy lil palomino tobiano by the name of Saxon though I should call him Trixie, now XDDD
I suppose I should say, I'm not afraid of horses now, but when I was 12, they sure made me nervous. Plus, my grandfather would tell tall tales about horses that I didn't believe - not really - but still made me wonder. Last time I was around a horse was about 16 years ago, when I went horse riding at a tourist thingy in the Caribbean. The horses they had were unruly, though, and it wasn't very enjoyable. Still, horses are great. And, uh, as far as Buddhism goes, I guess I should clarify I consider myself a philosophical Buddhist. That is, I follow teachings, but don't believe that Buddha is sitting in Nirvana. In all things spiritual, I use the scientific method.
does it count that i stored one of my motorbikes in a family friends stable? His daughters pony, my motorbike, his wife's horse, his horse? he was chuffed with having 63 horses in his stables, my motorbike made 60bhp
I lol'd. Honeslty, I have two problems with horses: 1 is that I don't like horses. 2 is that I don't like horses twice. On second though... Yeah, I like horses. Garlic can make ANYTHING taste good when applied in liberal ammounts. -shot-
That quote just cracks me up. Seriously though, I really like horses. When I was younger, my parents took me to a business that taught you how to care for horses and how to ride them. I was super bummed when I got to be too old to keep coming back. Whenever we go on trips, my parents and I look for horse trail rides or anything along those lines. We even stayed at a B&B that also took you on tours around the area while on horseback. Both of my parents really like horses also. My dad grew up on a ranch, and my mom is a city girl who has loved horses all her life. We all wish we could find property that would let us raise horses.
I own a couple of Haflingers, and actually had them a year before I started watching FiM. Kind of odd, since growing up I didn't care that much for equines... was always a bird and cat person m'self.
