Recently, while Role playing on the chat, I have noticed that some 'newbies' use different ways of Role playing, like using " for actions, or not even using any of the extra features. I thought maybe an extra chat section could be added as a small tutorial for RP newbies. What do you think of this?
They RP differently than what would be the norm Just roll with it, I guess, or you can tell them that the RP's would be played out differently or in the method that would be the norm in the RP channel
What if we were to do some kind of camp for new RPers? They pass a test, and they then get permission to RP. I can't tell you how frustrating it gets.
It seems someone other than myself and Jhera have brought this up. I don't much say a channel for roleplaying tutorial, but more of Eluuna's idea. Because the amount of times I've tried to help others learn how to improve on "seas [Insert Character grammatically spelled incorrectly] nd wavs" It is so deterring to those who want to roleplay properly rather than people who don't want to improve and they won't use the commands, use root Grammar or punctuation. I've tried to advise giving help but just ignored or been given flak for saying it nicely. So I think just creating a channel would be pointless as they don't want to improve, just RP.
I'm not an RP'er. I'm terrible at it. But even I know that there needs to be a quality standard. I've seen some of the RP's here and some of the chat RP's. Suffice it to say most of them are lackluster (Though some people know how it works) and they really need work. Honestly think there needs to be some sort of limitation in place so that RP is enjoyable while also legible.
In group RP's and chat RP's yes but private RP's, those with just two players, shouldn't be restricted.
We're working on some guidelines for new peeps to follow. Hopefully this reference will reduce this issue.
Maybe make it a forced read before they can post there? Guidelines tend to be ignored if they don't read it.
