We're very sorry but the RP chat is way too server intensive for any cost effective plan, on the site or off the site, so it must be taken down completely. Currently there are no plans to restart it. All I can really suggest is you take it someplace else, like Skype. The Livestream chat rules will not be changed, so don't try to take your RPs there either.
Sad to hear, but it's for the best if it's negatively impacting the server. Skype and Chatzy are both good alternatives, so no worries there!
I never went on RP, but I know of many who did. Most regular. Sad to hear it's been taken down, but it's all for the good of the forum.
I'm sure all the RPers here will appreciate having one to begin with, and understand why this had to be done. Better to have loved RP'd and lost than never to have loved RP'd at all

That's sad, even though I've never really been on it, I know a few who really enjoyed it. But hey, it's for the greater good, eh? Besides, like everypony's been saying so far, there are always alternatives, such as MSN, Skype, Facebook Chat, etc.
Well there go my plans of randomly showing up to see what's been going down on RP chat, no pun intended. Also, I find is strange that the RP chat went down on friday. ~Friday, Friday Gotta get down on Friday~
Why doesn't anypony create a forum for a forum based role play? I have hosted my fair share and they are a pain to set up, but decent ones are free and its an easy and much cheaper alternative, not to mention a good alternative.
Well there is a FiM based roleplay forum (canterlot.com) but I couldn't tell you much else about it. We also have had a roleplay subforum for a while but it seems to be gathering some dust by now, if you could establish some guidelines for it you could probably get something fairly large going in there. Also we /may/ be bringing the RP chat back, we we're going to have to discuss this first before coming to any conclusions.
Well, considering it, i'm using the RP section, but saying it, why isn't anyone using it if the site was closed?
It's a pity about the RP chat not wanting to peacefully coexist with the rest of Everypony Network. If only there were a way to keep it from paraspriting server space. I look forward to the potential alternative Flash has planned.
IF you're talking about Thread Roleplaying, here's the link. I think it's not only a good alternative, but a better one as well; You actually get your Roleplay ALWAYS saved there and you can always re-check it back later for the good ol' times. On the rp chat topic, i'd suggest (Like we used to do) to find a suitable php or w/e code of a simple chat that has a name swap function, like the old one used to have. I know earlier, Grey used to search for these for the old chat (Which turned out to become the RP chat).
@Jaret - it's a matter of connections per second as to why we had to remove the last one, if we had it on our server it caused the rest of the site to glitch up since it caused the simultaneous connections to increase by a LOT, normally on forums simultaneous connections isn't a problem because you're not going to have everyone clicking links at the exact same time but with the RP chat you'd get 20 or so people with constant connections, leaving only a few for the people on the rest of the site. Though Flash didn't have the same problem with his host that'd cause the site to glitch, he was contacted to take it down because it was hogging the server space and it was a free host. If we're bringing one back it'd have to rely not at all or very minimally on serverside interaction.

It seems that a forum based roleplay might work... I wouldn't want to roleplay with anyone outside this site for now... considering I just got back into the series and such, and you all would be so gentle to me and others like myself. I can set up one if you wish as a temporary alternative.... providing that it's approved by our higher-ups on the site.
