this isn't depression topic, more of news/how it makes me feel topic: well, today PonyArchive.org, biggest pony archive on the internet.. was brought down by Hasbro... That also means that some youtube channels were brought down by Hasbro as well. this truly broke my heart. It kinda killed part of brony in me... I tried to think all the time that those were trolls, and that Hasbro would stick to their "we won't copyright mlp". since I don't live in USA, and therefore, I don't have HUB, and can't watch it online on hub world, and if they bring other youtube accounts down, I won't have access to ponies anymore (legal). Yes, there's iTunes, and their price isn't so bad, but, since I really really really really dislike apple, and iTunes kinda bondage you to apple, I refuse to use it (and how I know, it's only available in usa). This really isn't ok. At least, now they could make some service for people outside usa, for some normal prices, but still, they won't be the same in my eyes...
I was literally just about to post this. Yes, this is very unfortunate. But now that MLP is available on iTunes, and with DVD's being rumored, it was inevitable. I really hope that they don't attack YouTube and have all the videos removed there. If that happens, international bronies will literally be cut off from MLP, as you stated. I don't think they will remove the videos from YouTube, since the team stated that since they recognize the brony community, and its international viewers, users would be allowed to upload episodes to YouTube. But we don't know for sure. I believe they still appreciate the brony community and will probably leave channels up. IMO, I think it was the torrents, they were mad at the most.
*click on Ponyarchive* 404 not found. how I feel : Spoiler: Nooooo ! Yeah i don't appreciate that too. PonyArchive was my way to see ponies . Now I really hope Derpyhooves.com Still stand up tall ><
This doesn't make me sad. What makes me sad is how Ponyarchive reacted. http://ponyarchive.eu/ Read and weep.
A reaction like that is, indeed, sad. Taking down the website is quite indifferent for me, but reacting like that afterwards just plain out is not cool.
Hasbro better allow the youtube videos to stay up, otherwise I am stuck with the horrible swedish dub. Or can I get the episodes on itunes in this country? I sure hope so or there is no legal way I could get ponies in the original language. By the way, this video was suposedly taken down by Hasbro a while back, now it works again for some reason. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s66F2o_t6iI
Wow... Not sure if that's the best thing to say.. but oh well. Don't bite the hand that feeds you, pops into my mind.
*checks EQD post* I still think its because of the torrents. Streaming is one thing, but freely downloading copyrighted material probably made them mad. The team said they would allow us to post episodes on YouTube. They did not say we could distribute torrents to everyone. Edit: And actually the Ponyarchive message angers me... That just makes us look bad. We all don't feel that we should flip off Hasbro and hate them because they took down a site. That's not the impression we should create... AND, there's this little issue going around that...oh I don't know, could define the future of the internet!! Its crap like this that only makes it worse.
As long as they don't take down the youtube episodes, I am fine. I don't see why we would need torrents with a sanctioned youtube release. I am still wondering though, Yeti hinted at itunes downloads not working outside the states, is this true?
This is terrible. Im sure its just a big misunderstanding. Hopefully, they'll realise they've made a mistake, and this hole situation will pick itself up from there... Hopefully.
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! No. After that sort of reaction on Ponyarchive's part, I hope they stay shut. Remember, Hasbro > Fandom.
well, I've taken one more step, and sent mail to hasbro: Spoiler: mail Hallo My name is Feel, and I'm a brony. I live in Europe. I found out that you've taken down PonyArchive.org. Ok, from your stand of point that's reasonable since you're starting to sell mlp:fim episodes online, but if you're taking down YouTube channels, that's not good. I don't know if you know that, but YouTube (and PonyArchive for that matter) was basically free advertisement for your toys. If it wasn't for YouTube and PonyArchive, I wouldn't been a brony at all, and I wouldn't buy your toys, T-shirts, and tell other friends about MLP:FiM who later bought your products(toys, t-shirts, stickers, magazines and other stuff). I'm just asking you to consider that there are fans outside USA. Also, if you MUST to make money from people that already are addicted to the show, at least make some alternative service (over your site) that's not via iTunes, since iTunes bonds you to Apple and you must use it in order to watch it. (some people like me for example, really really don't like Apple as company.) So as I see it there are 3 scenarios: 1. you keep YouTube like your free advertisement, me (and since I'm part of brony community, I know that lot of my brony friends would agree with me), so everyone in the world can watch it, and personally, I'll keep telling people about how show's good, and buy stuff from you. 2. you put downloads of all episodes in HD on your site (or some other non iTunes related site), you put reasonable price on it (by reasonable price I think on something like 1$ per episode), and make it world wide. I will keep watching the show, may maybe buy some stuff, but I sure won't be so enthusiastic about it to talk to my friends about ponies (20 year old male talking to friends about ponies... yes, I go trough that to get you more fans, and you profit from it). 3. you take down all YouTube channels, and keep iTunes on usa only (and same price). I won't ever buy any of your toys, t-shirts, or anything, and would suggest to my brony friends not to do so as well, also, I wouldn't be sorry for downloading mlp from some site that would be illegal in usa (pirating is legal in country where I live). I know it wouldn't be nice from me, but in my eyes, you'd be copyright nazi (like Disney). alternately for 2. (maybe best solution): you make special site of your own for downloading episodes. so next to every episode, you can put something like donate button or something, so people would pay how much they think it's worth it. Trust me, since I saw Rainbow Dash plushie being sold on ebay for 2000$, I'm sure, people that have money would play way more than what you ask on iTunes for episodes. I know, for some episodes (like Lesson Zero, or Secret of my Excess ) I'd pay more because you (and people at Studio B who actually made the show) deserve more than 3$ for that episode. Also, that way you'd also think on people who can't afford it, so they can have show for free (since they maybe don't live in USA to get HUB). So in true brony spirit, quoting Pinkie Pie and Twilight Sparkle (which is btw, your own message via the show):"sometimes we need to share, we need to care". PS.: please send me some kind of reply so I know this mail didn't go to trash. Thank you for listening.
Hasbro doesn't make T-shirts. Unless if you just referring to the fact that you buy T-shirts, then that's fine. Just somewhat confused me. Other than that, it was a nice letter, I hope they at least read it. Maybe they will, maybe they wont. Hasbro isn't so much interested in the brony community as they are with making money. It's more of the Hub and Studio B (studio that works on the show) that acknowledge bronies.
we love fine does, and they get money via we love fine for using their characters. (and there are official mlp tshirts by not long ago)
