I've recently just got back involved in the brony world so I'm not sure if this discussion has already been made yet, or if the same points have been brought up. If this is the case then I am sorry to whoever posted said these things before me, as I truly have no idea if you have. Now as you can guess by the title this post is about Scootaloo, and I'm defending her. People at one time were talking about how she is crippled, lacks magic, will never learn to fly, and well I've thought for a long time about this, and I think I can atleast partilly explain about why she can't fly, and why people shouldn't critize her because of it. 1. She doesn't live in Cloudsdale. Besides Poundcake Scootaloo appears to be the only pegasi to not grow up in Cloudsdale, and I think this might be one of the reason why she has trouble flying, because more or less she is out of her enviroment. 2. Before anyone says that Pound Cake can fly I want you to consider something, how many times has Sweetie Belle used magic? Only once unless I've missed something. Then it is shown that Pumpkin cake can use magic to an almost mastery level in my opinion, as she was able to levitate objects, and herself allowing her to fly around the room with Pound Cake. More or less what I'm saying is that kids can develope in different ways, I've known of alot of people who learn to walk before they learn to crawl. 3. She isnt the only pegasi who has shown shes not that adapt at flying. Fluttershy wasn't actually the best flyer when she was young, this was account of her fear though, and I think a big reason she learned to fly was because Rainbow Dash stood up for, and befriended her. I think that Scootaloo is also scared of something, she is scared of getting off her scooter, and that when she does fly that she won't impress Rainbow Dash. However now that Rainbow Dash has taken Scootaloo under her wing, I think it will have a big effect on Scootaloo learning to fly. So everyone needs to lay off on Scootaloo for not being able to fly....... YET
What about Featherweight? I don't think it's ever stated that all Pegasi are born and raised in Cloudsdale and we don' know the history of a lot of characters.
Maybe her parents clip we wings so she can't fly. They just call it wing maintenance so she never knows. They do this so she doesn't get hurt flying around all crazy like.
Perhaps she has no adults in her life that can teach her how to fly so maybe that's why she asked RD to help her. Perhaps she's an orphan and has to learn herself.
or maybe she feels like she dosen't need to learn how to fly, and maybe she feels like she'd rather be on the ground walking with her friends, Apple Bloom and Scootaloo. she never really complains about not being able to fly in the show at all. Or maybe she actually CAN fly but she just never does. Just my thoughts...
