I find myself watching the 80s musical number with the sea ponies over and over again and am seriously hoping they show up in generation four. They are so awesome and they freaking know it! I think there are great possibilities for future plots that involve sea ponies... Do you think sea ponies would or should appear in Friendship is Magic? Or could they be referenced? What could they look like? Would/ should they call them sea ponies or something else? Would/should they sing or should/would the writers veer away from them singing? Views on sea ponies in general?
Just my opinion. I don't want to see them show up. References would be cool, but I'm not working on the show. If they want to put them in, I'll still watch it. The only thing I know they do is sing. I'll edit this after I search for them on youtube.
Writen like the rest of the show, why not? Producers made us love cartoon horseys, those producers can make us love sea ponies too.

Well, I think they established that there are only three types of ponies: earth, unicorn, and pegasus. So unless they discover some lost land inhabited by sea ponies or Celestia has been trolling the whole world by not mentioning them, it wouldn't make a lot of sense.
Just google image'd them... They could be made cool, but from what iv'e seen, They're not cute at all! They look like limbless Thalidomide ponies in the pictures of them in earlier generations. Maybe if they made them more cute-like for G4 they'd be cool...
I theorize, if they do show up in generation 4, they might actually make it so there are different kinds of sea ponies, like there are two ponies that dwell on land (three if you count pegasus, but they mostly live in the sky, four if you count Alicorns, though I'm not entirely sure about all of them besides the three I've seen). If it is just a reference, I'd imagine Rarity having an over-active imagination and picturing herself as one. xD I think they would be treated as sort of a thing that everypony thinks is myth if they do show up. I also agree with SilverWind and Parker. They're definitely due for an update in the current style...
i agree that a backstory of these seaponies would be required, as well as an art update; however, the idea would bring completely new ideas and concelts to the show. the ideal is also good because there are many a reference to other creatures from mythology (ex. Manticore, Hydra, etc.), why not include the seaponies , or Hippocampi, of greek mythology? they could do some sort of atlantis parallel.
They find Atlantis, I'm calling it. You heard it here first! I reckon it would be a really fun idea for an episode. I mean, the show is about magical talking ponies, there is only so much explanation they have to go into as it is primarily a cartoon for young girls. If there was some sort of ancient back story dating to before the evolution of the modern pony, then I would absolutely loooooove to see some underwater equestrian creatures.
So far, the different types of sea ponies I've thought there'd be. Seapony- These would more than likely look like the generation 1 sea ponies, favoring the sea horse in appearance Kelpie- More found in lakes and swamps, known to masquerade as handsome or beautiful ponies, predatorial?, always wet, possible villain? Hippocampus- Magnificent, more horse-like, but with the tail that runs a lot smoother and longer, like the merponies, but with fins that flow more smoothly, possibly the ruling class of the sea... Merponys (or mermares)- These would probably be close to the toys, but without the strangeness of the tails. Some might have mertails while others have tails more like hippocampi. They would have front legs, but back fins of varying types... Shark ponies- Merponies favoring sharks in appearance because of their similar fins, possibly similar gills, might be the stronger and faster royal guard class... While I don't think they'll go into so much depth as far as the sea pony sub-species go, these are some guesses of what might or could be. Any ideas, guys?
