Well, this episode happened. Not a bad one but seemed to follow the typical Spike episode format. Spike is given ONE JOB (insert meme here), Spike cuts corners and thinks he is doing a good job, everything backfires, Spike tries to bail but gets caught and has to own up, Spike apologizes, credits roll. 4/10 from me. Can't believe no one posted about this yet!!!
I'll have to watch the episode again later I only saw about half of the episode earlier this morning.
Honestly, this wasn't a terrible episode. It wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible. I think the biggest mistake made with the episode was having it follow the god-tier episode that was Slice of Life. It was a pretty massive letdown after such an amazing ride.
Think he'll get another episode? Maybe Brother hooves Social. Maybe he'll co-star in one of the 3 Rarity episodes
I think no one posted about it because it wasn't really worth posting about. You hit it on the head, yet ANOTHER formulaic Spike episode. No matter how many times he is taught a lesson, he doesn't learn it. Maybe it's his dragonness? How many chances has Twilight give him now? You'd think she'd learn by now that he has his limitations. Reshevling books = Spike job. Anything of consequence = NOT a Spike job.
Well, to give him the benefit of the doubt, Sparky wasn't the one that gave him this particular responsibility. It was Cadence.
It wasn't a bad episode. I kind of feel sorry for Spike. A little. He was just trying to help and let Twilight sleep and it went over the top. That seems to be the general "theme" when it comes to Spike episodes. I liked seeing Cadence and her being involved in this episode though. I liked the episode for the most part.
I finally saw the episode today and just like with Appleloosa's Most Wanted, I found the episode to be ok.
Eh, typical Spike episode. I've seen worse, I guess. I'm just kinda tired of seeing episodes where he tries to assist someone and then he either messes up or the universe itself goes out of its way to ridicule the poor guy. Or, well, a bit of both, like in this case. You know what I think would help? If the show would allow Spike to have friends of his own that he could interact with. And I don't mean the occasional pony he's allowed to assist. I mean actual peers. Twilight has them. The CMC have each other. Why is Spike destined to be forever alone, and in a series called "Friendship is Magic" no less. Maybe that's why none of his episodes are any good. When he is on his own, he really is on his own. I find this to be more tragic than entertaining. And yes, ultimately, the whole thing was Cadance's fault. She gave Spike the task of watching over Twilight's sleep without giving him any instructions on what to do when other ponies wanted to talk to Twilight about important matters, which she should have known was practically unavoidable with Twilight presumably organizing the whole summit. Number one assistant or not, Spike is essentially still just a baby dragon. Cadance is supposed to be the responsible adult here. And even when Spike told her that he was taking more responsibilities than he was originally supposed to do, her only concern was that he might enjoy himself. Because that's apparently the real problem here. But of course, Cadance never gets called out on this and it was up to Spike to apologize for doing what he essentially was supposed to do by order of the princess (Cadance in this case). And only because *gasp* he dared to enjoy himself. The poor little guy just can't catch a break.
