Yar-har, me mateys!! This be the swashbuckling adventure ye be waiting fer!! OK, now that THAT is out of my system, not a bad little episode. He said, she said episodes like this one aren't particularly one of my favorites but it was still a fun little ride. As for tidbits, anyone else catch the reference to 1997's Titanic? Overall: 6/10
Pretty decent episode, it made me chuckle. I don't why, but I find Applejack acting like a deranged sailor more amusing than I should.
Pretty good episode. I think the first flashback should've been the last, to make it more of a surprise. AJ acting like a pirate was pretty funny and Rairty was pretty silly too. So was Pinkie Pie, of course. Overall, I give this one a 6/10.
Thoughts are in spoilers below. Nothing bad this time. Spoiler There's not much to say about this one. Still though, I at least enjoyed this one significantly more than the last one. This was the seeming age-old problem of people have different points of view of something happening and whose at fault for them. Every time each story is different. This was also no different. Each versions were interesting and unique in their own way. But each also had a somewhat OOC pony. What was with 'pirate Applejack' in Rarity's version? That was creepy and funny all at the same time. The Rarity in Pinkie's version was quite the jerk. It made it seem like she felt she was 'above' Applejack and Pinkie. The Applejack version of Pinkie was... kind of creepy honestly... Twilight has come to save the day two episodes in a row now. Good for her. A new monster/beast was introduced as well. It's always cool and interesting when they do that. The monster actually seemed quite pleasant. If that's really what it's like... I'd be friends with it. Twilight always figuring out the truth. She's quite the mystery solver. In the end there wasn't anything 'amazing' or 'outstanding' in this episode but it was still interesting, had it's moments, and I still enjoyed it.
When I look at it from a strictly casual perspective (I might as well get in on this POV stuff), I thought it was kind of amusing. Pirate Applejack pretty much made the episode for me. When I take it seriously, well... Bleh. I simply couldn't believe that they could have skewed some things as far as they had, even if they were feeling vindictive because they were upset about their boat trip being a wash (pun intended). When you really look at their so-called differing perspectives, a good portion of it was either mean-spirited mockery or a delusion. And, I dunno, but we're six seasons in and I'm kind of disappointed that these three would have this kind of problem, partly because of how badly they respond to it in the first place. Where's the friendship, the experience of being friends (such as the communication mentioned in the episode), and knowing the importance of friendship (what with being the elements of friendship)? I mean, I don't expect friends to get along all of the time, even good friends, but come on. I dislike it when characterization takes a hit for the sake of the abstract, rather than finding the right characters and circumstances to get the idea across to the audience. I feel like this would have been a lesson better served with Starlight Glimmer. If not as one of the ponies with their own perspective on the matter, then as the outsider who has to figure out what went wrong, and why. Another missed opportunity, I guess.
