I've always been afraidnof death, and facinated by it at the same time. I'm notnreligious. But I'm not against religion either. Anyway I serched up near death expiriences an the results terrified me. They always involved someone dieing, hearing voices, see heaven/hell ect. They convinced even athiests that god exists. Now, Im aware the intermet ia full of bogus but....

I'm not against god, mind you. But the thought that he does possibly exist terrifies mw. I don't knkw why. See, I have this theory that everyting is impossible, even god, butafter hearing that I understand now... if he does exist he's jist been here forever.

Now lets talk about hell. The discriptions if the people who expireinced hell as basicly nothingness for eternity. I don't know about you, but I had imagined hell as burning feilds, lakes of lava, evil spirits torturing people, (assuming it existed) and honestly, the nothingness for eternity scares me more.

But the thing is, I don't velive in this stuff... so why does this terrify me?

Because it's natural for humans to be afraid of what they don't understand. One of the biggies is what happens after death.

It terrifies you because it is supposed to terrify you.
The concepts of Heaven and Hell were created to keep believers in line, by offering them a choice between eternal bliss for following the rules, or eternal torture for breaking them.
Even if if you don't believe, the idea that you might be wrong, and thus damned, is enough frighten almost anybody.

The idea of not knowing frightens humans, since we are a naturally curious species. The idea of death and the workings of nature were frightening to early humans, since they could never truly learn the truth. Religion was created as a cop-out. It provided not only an explanation as to nature and death, but provided guidelines for living as well.

As time went on, we discovered the true workings of nature and are currently trying to learn about what mysteries the universe truly holds. But death, death never changes.

Death shall forever be a mystery to humanity. Death is like a black hole; the only way to really know what mysteries it contains means that you must pass a point of no return. These "visions" seen by those having a near-death experience can never truly be confirmed. It might just be a persons brain randomly flashing images of its collective knowledge of heaven, hell, or the person's life. Out-of-body experiences could also be explained the same way: the brain using whatever senses are working to "see" it's environment.

Of course, there is the possibility that the religious are correct. That there may be a God or Goddess or multiple gods. We just don't know. And that's why death is scary. Because we just. Don't. Know.

    Just remember this one thing.
All hail the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

No but seriously I choose to just wait until I die and see for myself. Unless there's just nothing there and then you just die. I think humans should leave this whole thing alone. You're never going to know what truly happens until you die.

You can't have an experience of non-existence, so there's no really need to be afraid of it.

And imo, there is no way non-existence could last for the rest of eternity. At some point there has to be existence (consciousness?) again, to balance things out.

Even if there is something like hell, there is no way your stay there could last forever. Everything always flows over into something else, whether it's matter, energy, consciousness or whatever.
