First, I'm not too sure if this topic has already been done here anywhere else.

I was just on Ponychan and they had a topic called "has this show ever brought you to tears?". So, I thought I'd ask that here.

Are there any instances in the show that have brought tears to your eyes, or just got you a little choked up?

I'll just copy and paste my response I made on Ponychan

1.) The second time I watched EOH part 2, the part where Celestia forgives Luna and they embrace each other, I got choked up there.

2.) The Best Night Ever, during that very last scene. Because it was like saying goodbye to all of them.

I almost cried myself to sleep thinking about that! No, I'm serious!

It's like these ponies are six close friends that we've all made and we had to leave those friends for a few months! It hurts like hell to leave your friends like that, even just temporarily!

3.) In LBYS after Rarity and Applejack make up, they embrace each other. The first time I saw that I did let out an 'awww' while sort of getting a lump in my throat.

4.) In RoH part 2: when Twilight is reading the letters and we see those flashbacks to season 1, and when she says "Applejack! You are not a liar!" and then we see those flashbacks of Applejack. My eyes got a little wet there.

Also, just recently, in that same episode, I can't help but feel a slight pang of sadness when the other 5 are holding down Dash before Twilight uses that spell on her.

It's probably when Dash says "Leave me alone! I don't need you guys!" that just get's me.

I can't help but think at that part (while trying to hold back the tears) "Why would you think you don't need your own friends, Dash? They want to help you so bad!"

Yes, I can honestly say, without any shame, that the show has brought me tears on a couple of occasions. There are three that I can think of off the top of my head:

    1) The same one you had, when Luna and Celestia embrace each other. This didn't happen the first time I watched it though. I don't think it was until after I watched the entire first season that my emotions opened up a little bit more. So when I watched that scene a second time, I actually felt some tears well up.

    2) The scene from "A Bird In The Hoof" when Fluttershy walked up to Celestia and said, "So, if you want to banish me and then throw me in a dungeon in the place that you banish me to. Then that's what I deserve," and bowed down. There was just something about the emotion in that scene that hit me. Maybe it was because it was Fluttershy, of all ponies, saying she deserved to be punished. All I know is my eyes welled up something fierce when I saw that.

    3) The scene from "Boast Busters" when Twilight Sparkle begged her friends not to hate her after showing her magical abilities by defeating the Ursa Minor. It was also the dialogue from Rainbow Dash, Applejack and Rarity that followed. I guess I felt really bad for Twilight because she really thought that her friends would hate her because of her magical abilities, and when her friends revealed to her that they'd never hate her for it, it hit me.

Confound these ponies! They drive me to show emotion!

When Applejack reprimanded Twilight for using magic in Winter Wrap-up, I felt a bit sad. Not much else really.

1- The end of episode 2 of season 1. Luna and Celestia, It's just so sweet.

2- Anytime I see a sonic rainboom or hear the noise as it happens. I don't know why I do. The nuclear rainboom did nothing to me.

3- The return of harmony episodes, when Dash just flies off. I know she couldn't help it, but still.

Before MLP, the last time I cried was about 2004.

I'm a big softy. Here's mine, but not in any particular order.

Return of Harmony 2: Twilight says "With friends like you who needs....enemies."*slowly becomes corrupted by Discords realm.* She was the only one who wasn't hypnotized too.

Elements of Harmony 2: Celestia says "You could not unleash it until you let true friendship into your heart. Now if only another will as well."

Sonic Rainboom: The entire scene I was cheering Rainbow Dash on because I wanted her to save her friend and accomplish her goal. It shows that friends help us grow by surpassing our limitations.:omg::cry:

Winter Wrap-up: Twilight begins crying when Applejack tells her that's not how they do things. She was only trying to help.

Elements of Harmony 2: Twilight experiences the spark after seeing and hearing her friends. Kinda cheezy, but I love it.

Return of Harmony 2: Rainbow Dash fighting to get free and Twilight has such a loving, calm smile when she returns Rainbow Dash back to normal.

That stupid parasprite stole Lyra's food. :angry:GRRRRRRRRRRRR No one makes Lyra cry....EVER!

Not really, I've never cried during the show.

However, when I was watching a pmv where RBD does the sonic rainboom and it made my heart tighten and eyes water just a little. I think it was the You're Gonna Go Far Kid video.

    Dunno why...

No, but it's gotten pretty close a couple of times. My family tends to be pretty controlled about their emotions, myself included.

But it's a nice feeling just to get close to it. Deep down, I'm an old softie and I know it. It's one reason why I'm watching this show. If it did nothing for me, emotionally, then I would not continue to watch it. Good shows are FELT. MLP:FiM is one of the best.

Before I got in to MLP, the last time I really cried was back when I was a lot younger.

it's awesome to be a part of fandom that's let me feel these kind of emotions again.

    This message emanates temporal energies:

    Uh, no.
Occasionally empathy abandons me all together.
Which makes it hard to feel sadness.

No, I'm not a crazed psychopath.
I just occasionally follow the "Rub some dirt on it, it'll solve the problem" mentality.

Tears aren't only a sign of sadness. You can shed tears of joy too! Just as two examples in my previous post (#1 and #3) demonstrated. ^^

I noticed a few of you have mentioned times you've cried pre-FiM (Could you imagine if we labeled our years like that? For example, the year 24 PF is "24 years pre-FiM" or 1986. Just a random silly thought). The last time I shed tears outside of FiM was during the year 4 PF 2006, and that was during a funeral. Prior to joining this fandom, I rarely ever cried. It was such a rarity that I could remember some of the individual times I've cried. I was always very closed about my emotions. IRL, I still kinda am, but I also felt weird showing emotion even in private. I had the old mentality that real men don't show any feelings. Today I know that's not true. I still won't go around showing my feelings IRL though. I'm a very private individual, and rarely share anything about myself in reality.

So, my fellow bronies, if you feel any tears welling up, either from sadness or joy, let them out. It actually feels pretty good. I felt better after it. It's like you're releasing some kind of built up pressure that's been inside for a long time. If you honestly don't feel anything, that's okay too. The majority of the time I don't either.

By the way, before anyone gets the wrong idea, the whole "PF" concept is just a joke. :p

I was going say something really close to that. I will add that. At work and at home. People still see the old grumpy, negative, mean me. In private I will show all sorts of emotions. I only recently tried be a little more open at work, the results were not that great.

Last time I cried was in year 6 PF (2004). I thing I did that right. I can't remember crying anytime other then that. It was a funeral.

I'm normally a very emotional person, and tend to tear up over silly little things, but I can't say anything in the show has ever made me feel all that emotional. I can't really put my finger on why that is though.

I'm the sort of person who only cries on their own, or at least tries to. I find crying in front of anyone embarrassing, and never know how to react when people do it in front of me. That said, I'll easily well up at some sentimental stuff. Like...

Twilight getting upset in Winter Wrap-Up because Applejack told her off. I'm pretty useless at absolutely everything and tend to get yelled at a lot for it, so it struck a chord with me really.

In Sonic Rainboom, the moment where Rainbow manages to pull off said rainboom and Fluttershy just goes nuts.

Twilight and Pinkie's stories in The Cutie Mark Chronicals. Twilight because she's obviously so happy at that moment, and Pinkie's because it's nice to think that she turned the life of her rather dour family around.

In Party Of One, Pinkie's hair deflating as it dawns on her that she didn't want to be right about her friends avoiding her.

Twilight finally breaking and "going monochrome" in RoH 2. Also, Rainbow struggling and protesting when she's tied up, followed by her leaping right back into "Where is he? I'll kick his flank!" mode.

I don't cry often during episodes, but I definitely have before. One of the examples that comes to my mind would be the Hearth's Warming Eve episode, which is one of my favorite episodes so far. It was just absolutely beautiful. I think one of the times I watched I cried either at the scene where Twilight Sparkle, Apple Jack, and Fluttershy were melting the ice in the cave, or at the part towards the end where everyone was singing the carol. Tears of joy I shed. I may also have cried at the scene in Secret of My Excess when Spike told Rarity he had a crush on her while they were falling, but I don't remember. There may be other specific examples, but I usually don't cry-I just sit there with a huge smile on my face. However, I am proud to say that on some occasions my joy reaches such levels that I either almost cry or do cry.

    I remember this thread.

At the end of baby cakes when they're in the crib. I thought.

    Man they are cute.

Then they said Pinkie Pie and the flood gates opened.

I cried because of their cuteness.

Darn those twins, why are they so adorable?

Interesting what you said about saying goodbye to the characters at the end of Best Night Ever. I felt exactly the sme way at the end of RvB (The Blood Gulch Chronicles, not the later seasons). When Church begs Andy not to blow up the ship, and the final, shocked "Tex?"... Gets me every time.

    As for MLP, nope, nothing.
