The thread in Site Discussion has probably answered a majority of your questions, but I would still like to go into a few more details as to what happened and clear some confusions. We were in fact DDoS'd. Unfortunately We do not know by whom, or specifically through what means of doing so. It seemed to be a random attack on our forums. One confusion was why there were errors, and if they were tied to data loss. No data was lost, corrupted, or stolen. All of your accounts are safe. The error that did occur, was that since there were thousands of connections all at once, it had filled up and crashed one of our databases, locking out anyone from accessing the site. You may have noticed that our user cap is at 10,612 users. We spent hours gathering as many IPs as we could, during and after the attack, and completely banning them from accessing the site. We plan on upgrading our server security soon to help prevent any other future attacks we may receive. And finally, I would like to thank the entire staff for their support. They all did great work to help resolve the issue and to keep our users in the radio informed. Great work guys, I truly appreciate it. If any of you have questions on something that I did not mention, please feel free to ask. Foxy's Note: I want to thank everyone on the EP staff for offering their support. I want to thank the radio staff for doing their best to keep everyones spirits up, I want to thank everyone who helped console and inform the users about what's going on, and I want to give a special thanks for Grey Knightmare, Flash and Mike406 for their relentless efforts to help get everything back up and running. To all the users out there offering help, suggestions, advice and support, it really warms our hearts to know that you guys are here for us. Keep being awesome guys. ~Foxytail
Yes, I know. I was making a few tweaks to our spam filter so it may have given you a 403 for a minute or two.
