For anyone else who has read my threads, you know I like to keep things broad. Long descriptive passages with multiple different ways to respond. This time is no different. So for reasons I cannot comprehend, I sat down to write a pony fanfic the other day. It started as a joke, but quickly became something very real. Something that I was proud of. Though it is far from completion, I ran into a brick wall last night, when I realized I had NO IDEA where to post this when it was done. Art goes on Tumblr and Deviantart, music and videos go to Youtube, and discussions go on the forums... But where do stories go? If anyone out there has some input to answer that question PLEASE let me know. In any case, that's not entirely what I wanted this to be about, rather, I wanted to know what my potential audience enjoys reading. In particular, what style of storytelling you like the most. You don't have to go into too much detail, and keep in mind I'm asking this as an amateur writer. Though you will NOT influence my current work, you may encourage me to take a different approach next time around. For reference, my story is done in a script style, with each of the characters lines written as though they themselves were directly giving the dialogue. Major scene transitions, changes in character appearance (such as emotional changes or facial expressions), and important events, are described in plain text as they happen in between character lines. I believe that this blunt, straight forward style removes some of the boundaries that readers encounter when trying to engage in the story, allowing them to play it out like a cartoon in their head while reading. But everyone has different tastes, and I want to know yours! Anything you feel like sharing, whether you do or don't like a particular style, whether or not you like seeing original characters in the fiction, plots that you feel don't get enough time in the light for whatever reason, just to name a few ideas. I look forward to seeing what the community has to say, especially if you can tell me where I can put my stories as I finish them (no matter how good/bad they are, it's all for naught if no one can read them!) Lastly, though I usually post a tl;dr when my posts get THIS long, but with a subject that's all about reading, I'm sure that I'll get the best answers from those who... I don't know... read? :derpe: EDIT: So it appears that my script style isn't very well received on most fanfic sites, but this is no big deal. I'll just use the script as the foundation for an actually story. Still, thanks for the fanfic sites, and thanks for your input!
I read many things (this includes manga) of many genres but i'm particular about adventure novels. Like the Warrior Heir and books that involve modern towns but with medieval connections and worlds with perilous journeys someone from modern times has to endure as a prophecy or part of their destiny. Like Wendy Wu that one movie on Dchannel she's a modern day girl warrior type with medieval connections. Yea that type of stuff.
Well, in general, I'm very much into fantasy (particularly of the urban persuasion) and comedy (the darker the better). Of course, this doesn't really cover my taste in literature (I read what I think is interesting, and I can't really say what in particular I find interesting about books, at least not in less than 17 paragraphs), so here's my Goodreads profile account thingy. Just look at the books I read and how I rated them, and you should get an idea of what I like. As for pony fiction, things are a bit different. My favorite kinds of fics are comedic slice-of-life stories and crossovers with stuff I really like. However, I'm not really into adult humour and situations and I especially dislike the sappy and sentimental stuff. Of course, there are exceptions (I really loved Fallout: Equestria, for example). Finally, fimfiction.net is pretty much the most popular site for MLP fanfics, but I do believe they don't allow fics written as scripts (something I don't really agree with, but oh well). Other than that, there's always fanfiction.net, and I'm pretty sure most fanfics featured on Equestria Daily are hosted on Google Docs (not sure how they get "published") though.
