That looks like awesome-fun coolness! I kinda wanna try my hand at it, y'know. Congrats on the awesome match by the way
Got to love LARPING. The only time when i was larping was when we go to the gigantic park and use it as a fortress and magic a Zombie Apocalypse version. play for a few hours and then we would quit after that.
"I'm out of mana, I need a pot!" Ah, I remember this video :derpe: Anyway. If where I live I managed to find LARPers, so can y'all. And since most of the bronies here are british... England and Germany are THE centers of LARP world-wide. Most of shops and groups are in England, and in Germany there's Drachenfest. After that, comes... USA, duh. Just google if you're really looking forward to it, shouldn't be hard to find. (Unless there is none to find ) Ah yes. That was the final's quarters. I lost terribly at the semifinals because I was really nervous because of my opponent. He's like the master of kenjutsu, one of the best fighters in our group if not the best and often represents us out of our own city... And usually win such battles. (I'm still surprised he didn't win the tourney. Vet power I guess.) Not only that, he's the one that "forged" both my swords. I can post it here if you guys want to see it, but you'll be disappointed. On the other hand, the other finalist cheered me up and told me my errors, so I was myself again at the match for the 3rd place, so I'll post it here when it comes out. I still lost that one though, but different from the semifinal, it was a pretty good duel. Infortunaly for me, I only rationalized the right strategy to fight samurais after the fight with those two (The 3rd placer was also a samurai.) Well, I'll be more than ready for we fight again.
I've LARPed a few times, but never gotten into any contests. I was given my "Intro to LARPing" lesson by someone who knew martial arts, like the guy in your group, and had been doing this for twenty years. I've beaten him once or twice; he's beaten me twenty-something times. I've thought about doing it more often. I might not have as much experience in contests, but I was excited watching you in this match (you were the one with the two swords, no?). The guy you went up against here had some really nice form with his sword-arm, and some fair form with his shield-arm. He threw himself off-balance a couple times, and you exploited that nicely (didn't seem to plan his moves out as well as you did in this match; kudos for thinking on your feet). That's what it's about, a lot of the time. If you want some advice, here it is. I did think, after watching you, that you were a bit showy with your moves. I favor a single shortsword, sometimes with a shield, and whenever I strike and pull back, or block and pull back, my sword-arm goes back to the "ready position", where it is angled towards my enemy, not held casually. As you demonstrated by winning this match, a single tap is all it takes, so why not be ready? Most of the time, you were pretty good about that, but at one point you twirled your sword before striking, which basically just lets him know how and from where you're going to attack (see: 1:31 in the video). Overall, you did a great job. Congratulations on winning the match!
Wow, thank you very much for the tips. I try to absorb as many as I can, great or small. I'll rewatch the video and analyze what you're talking about. Feel free to give me more tips @_@ By the way, my semifinal match sucked because I was REALLY nervous. I don't think it would be valid showing it to you since I wasn't quite fighting seriously because of the nervoursism but you may well see something else to help me with. I will also post the 3rd match fight whenever it comes out. (And that guy is one of the best if not the best duelist I've ver seen, so, yeah. Him and the 1st and 3rd place are 10 year-old veterans. I guess that for a newcomer such as me (since September last year) I'm pretty good lol) Edit: That was proposital. I was feinting an attack and I was going to attack his feet while he defended the 1st slash... But then he jumped and bursted like a maniac, so yeah. Actually, as you can propably see from the 2nd vid, I feint a LOT...
The best advice I can give you is to keep doing what you're doing; watch recordings of your own fights, and try to perfect your style. Lots of successful athletes do exactly the same thing. EDIT: Oh, and point the tip of your blade towards your opponent's face. It's harder for them to tell where you're going to strike from when you do.
That's... Interesting. The funny thing is, I can't hit their face. So it is kind of... Strange. Lol. Isn't it? Well, I've just discovered that here in Brazil there are LARP groups in places I would never have even imagined there were... So it is propably like brony community: may not look like, but it is EVERYWHERE
