So recently I just had started thinking about Spike's voice actor. For any of you that didn't know, he is voiced by a woman. I would never have guessed that if I didn't read it, his voice doesn't sound anything like a female one, to me at least. I'm super impressed that she can do that xD It's disconcerting watching her lips move to spike's voice in this video: It doesn't sound anything like her regular voice! xD I don't really know what I even want discussed in this thread, it just randomly popped into my head the other day and I thought I'd make a thread on it. For those of you who didn't know...now you know~!
It's really not all that uncommon for women to voice young male characters. Tara Strong voices Ben Tennyson and Timmy Turner, and Bart Simpson is voiced by Nancy Cartwright. I'm guessing this is because it's hard for most adult males to speak in childlike voices, and child labor laws prevent companies from hiring actual children.
True, but studios have to make all kinds of allowances, and can only work child actors a limited amount of time each week. For VA work, it's easier to just hire adult actors to play children.
Women doing voices for male characters happens practically all the time in anime. Naruto, One Piece, etc. :derpe:
Well I could have guessed Timmy Turner, his voice is stupidly high. Spike's sounds more masculine though. And I've never watched Ben Ten or the Simpsons (yes I haven't watched the Simpsons)
It is an interesting subject I guess it's talent to be able to sound like a young boy if you're an adult woman saying that though isn't the voice of Sweetie Belle a young girl?
