This is kinda late... but we need to bring back Derpy! I think I understand, Hasbro doesn't want "disabled" ponies in their show for a number of reasons but that doesn't mean to remove her almost completely! She's pretty much the brony mascot! Every pony needs her! We are all different, all apart of different communities: CE, NLR, Pegasus, Earth Pony, Unicorn... but deep down we are all the same;ponies. Divided we are weak. United we are invincible! We make are stand now! FOR EQUESTRIA!!! (and obviously Derpy )
I believe that what they've done was over the top, and un-needed. derpy is a cute and loveable character, one that could cause no one any harm, other than with her dopiness. But Derpy will never be gone. She'll remain in our memory, then in our fan art, and therefore she will remain in the community. She'll never be truly gone, even if it's fanon rather than canon.
I'd love Derpy to stay as canon, but I'm fine with her going back to the background AS LONG AS she's still in the background. She's the connection that bronies have with Hasbro, an almost entirely fan-made creation. This, however, will be a lost good memory for all of us. "We were there when Derpy was named officially."
This. I'd love if Derpy were canon, but I just don't see that happening now. I'm perfectly fine with her going back to the background, as a little gift for us. But we'll have to see if trolls will continue attacking Hasbro. Derpy's design may be safe for now, but that doesn't necessarily mean she's safe forever.
I'm confused on how Derpy is offensive, and isn't
I think it's MORE offensive that they don't include Derpy as she was. Think about it. In a world where Friendship is the prevalent attitude towards everypony, I think there would be ponies like Derpy. It shows that even if certain ponies had mental disabilities, they're still allowed to live and exist amongst the ones that don't. To change her voice and eyes is greatly offensive to me, as it tells me that the people who made this happen (I.e. the parents that complained) are saying that disabled people don't have a right to be shown on television. Or to even exist. And everypony knows who that is like. EDIT: That image was a bit overkill, I apologize.
I'm not...no, that wasn't my intention. I'm saying that the people who complained would take the same attitude as the person I pictured. Because that's basically what they're saying. They're saying it's offensive to see ponies who are disabled. They're saying that they want Derpy to go away and disappear because she's disabled. I'm trying to NOT associate this with anything like that, but it's very difficult if you have even a basic knowledge about Hitler's Final Solution. It honestly sounds like the people who complained are taking the same mentality as him. It's an outrage, and they should feel ashamed.
The voice is good. How it was implemented was pretty terrible as far as voice acting in that scene goes. There's already threads on this subject and protests in favor of keeping Derpy, though.
I have no problem with Ditzy Doo, it's cute and there's nothing wrong with it. I also like the cuter voice, I actually wanted that from the beginning. But taking away from the show isn't right. Instead of using this to teach the kids the value of making friends with the disabled, they deleted the "imperfection". You can't hide the world from them, and in doing so you can hurt the kids, disabled and non-disabled of being socially awkward in those situations.
I feel the outrage against Derpy was taken way over the top. I've heard rumors there were even death threats made against the VA, which is just crazy. I wasn't a huge fan of how they did the voice, but it didn't anger me. I can understand why Hasbro altered the character of Derpy as a precaution, but I find it unfortunate they even had to do so in the first place. Another interesting rumor I've heard is that The Last Roundup will be in unedited form on the DVD that's coming out. Anypony know if this is true?
This is something the insensitive ingrates that complained never considered, and I agree wholeheartedly. And it's also why I'm personally offended that Derpy was changed so drastically, as I have several friends who are disabled. These people don't realize that by changing Derpy, they're essentially saying that disabled people have no right to be shown on television, or even have a voice on a children's show. To me, this isn't about a gift to Bronies being taken away, it's about the rights and freedoms of the disabled, and it's why I'm so vocal about my protests against the change.
What of snails. For lack of a better word, he is "slow"/"special" If people wanna complain pick the right target. Put he still remains in the show. Also do note. I don't care what happens to derpy. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
But why have they not gone after him. Why does he get a free place. That is what I don't under stand. Was it the derp eyes? The voice? What made her so bad. They the ungrateful people who complain that she is changed. At least they kept the scene. It could have been removed completely. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
Ungrateful? What should I be grateful for? A critical hit against people's rights to be people has been dealt. As I've said, to me, this isn't about a gift to Bronies being taken away, it's about the rights and freedoms of the disabled, and it's why I'm so vocal about my protests against the change.
*facehoof* Everypony is overreacting. They changed her voice and underped her eyes for one episode, she will continue to appear in the background and have derped eyes. It's not the end of the world.
That's not the point. She should have remained as she was, as it was a good lesson to teach kids. "Befriend the disabled." There could've been an entire episode dedicated to that lesson, which would've been great for kids to learn, and it has to be scrapped because of some insensitive plotholes complaining.
